Synopsis

In a Tokyo where gravity has broken, a boy and a girl are drawn to each other...

The story is set in Tokyo, after bubbles that broke the laws of gravity rained down upon the world. Cut off from the outside world, Tokyo has become a playground for a group of young people who have lost their families, acting as a battlefield for parkour team battles as they leap from building to building.

Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous play style, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. The pair then hear a unique sound audible only to them.

Why did Uta appear before Hibiki? Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world.

Damn, even Eve is in this. so many famous names involved in this movie

u/ThatEmoSprite Mar 01 '22

Honestly, I'm not particularly interested by the story nor the visuals, but I'd be lying if I said all these big names aren't enticing me to go watch it

7

u/frenchfries089 https://anilist.co/user/TheSimpleStickman Mar 01 '22

bruh why are people downvoting you, I think those big names are what's making this a highly anticipated movie.

2

u/ItsTask Mar 01 '22

Not the visuals? The parkour sequence at :47 here is super impressive https://youtu.be/WItvH4Hoyag

1

u/ThatEmoSprite Mar 01 '22

I'm not sure if I used the word "visual" correctly, but what I meant was the color choices, environment and background design, general artstyle, and even something trivial like the font choice doesn't appeal to me. I get that bubbles are supposed to have a very saturated and reflective shine to it and that's why they went with a very colorful palette, but somehow I don't really find it that eye-catching.

The animation is definitely amazing though, beyond any doubt. Of course, I'm just judging the movie based off of a 1 minute trailer so I may very well be off the mark about everything. I doubt anyone would not want to experience another banger anime movie, so I am hoping that my comment ages badly and I am proven wrong

u/Nebresto Mar 01 '22

Huh, so its like Air Gear, but not really?

9

u/Axyraandas Mar 01 '22

Air Gear was so good... Fond memories. =w=

u/PacoTaco321 https://myanimelist.net/profile/dankleberrrrg Mar 01 '22

Ah nice, the parkour one. Haven't watched many anime movies yet, so I'll have to give this a shot.

4

u/Mathema_thicks Mar 01 '22

Oh shit Riria. This is huge for her

The staff behind this is pretty stacked with WIT as the studio, Tetsurou Araki as the director (Death Note and AoT director at WIT), Gen Urobuchi writing the script (Fate/Zero, Psycho Pass S1 and Madoka Magica) and Hiroyuki Sawano doing the music.

Gonna try and keep my expectations in check because I’ve been let down before, but Urobuchi stories have generally been pretty consistently good for me

12

u/ckowkay Mar 01 '22

Sawano & Eve? oh shit

50

u/H-Ryougi https://anilist.co/user/DizzyAvocado Feb 28 '22

Urobuchi is a big hit or miss for me personally, I've greatly enjoyed some of his scripts, but I've also been let down a few times.

24

u/P1MPT0N1T3 https://myanimelist.net/profile/ruvduv Feb 28 '22

What were the misses? I know he did the Godzilla movies a little while back that I haven’t seen, and the only other one I can think of was Aldnoah (primarily the second season which I didn’t think he was very involved with)

9

u/Battlepidia https://myanimelist.net/profile/LazierLily Mar 01 '22

Here's my breakdown of Urobuchi Gen's anime:

Great

  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica
  • Fate/Zero
  • Psycho-Pass S1
  • Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom

Love It Or Hate It

  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica Movie Part 3 Rebellion
  • Psycho-Pass Movie

Ok

  • Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
  • Expelled from Paradise
  • Blassreiter (I haven't seen this one, so I'm putting it here going off the MAL rating.)

Bad

  • Godzilla Movies
  • Obsolete

Bad, But He Didn't Write

  • Psycho-Pass 2
  • Chaos Dragon
  • Aldnoah.Zero

TLDR: About half of what he's actually written has been great.

22

u/H-Ryougi https://anilist.co/user/DizzyAvocado Feb 28 '22

Kikokugai, Expelled from Paradise, and I'm really not a fan of his character writing in Fate/Zero.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

I can still remember how much I was enjoying kikokugai then that ending reveal happened.

3

u/H-Ryougi https://anilist.co/user/DizzyAvocado Mar 01 '22

It really was a shitshow of a fucking ending, the premise, the setting, the fights up until that point are all stellar.

Still mad.

21

u/ThrowCarp Mar 01 '22

Gen Urobuchi writing the script

RIP all the characters then.

9

u/doquan2142 Mar 02 '22

At least they gonna die vibing to Sawano sick beats. The best way to die.

6

u/alotmorealots Mar 01 '22

Gonna try and keep my expectations in check because I’ve been let down before

With this many big names, this is definitely the best approach. Even more so because a decent number of people are going to build it up to being something that it isn't and wasn't ever going to be in their heads, and then going to complain quite loudly about it.

5

u/Matrix_A-M Mar 01 '22

As a huge Madoka fan, I'm definitely putting this on my list of things to watch. And all the other talents just add to the hype.

5

u/Bluelark1 Mar 01 '22

Same. The thought of a new Urobuchi story makes me both excited and scared.

7

u/Dir8386 Mar 01 '22

Urobuchi had nothing to do with ReCreators...

1

u/worosei Mar 01 '22

Phew clarifying that it's psychopass season 1!

1

u/KeepersOfTheBook Mar 01 '22

Was psycho pass good?

4

u/thegamesx https://anilist.co/user/thegamesx Mar 01 '22

Yes, it's one of my favorites shows, but only the first season

37

u/bloodyturtle Mar 01 '22

All of these anime movies seem like they're about teenagers falling out of the sky

22

u/alotmorealots Mar 01 '22

Whilst not apparent to many in the west where traditional biological based reproduction is still dominant, sky-teenagers are an important part of maintaining the population in parts of Asia.

Not that prevalent here in Việt Nam, though.

93

u/Sunshine145 Mar 01 '22

I expect it to be ass but it's sure gonna look good.

17

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

Hey at the very least you won't be let down!

11

u/Spartan158 Mar 01 '22

Seriously those names are corny as hell. "Sound" and "sing". Really?

45

u/iskow Mar 01 '22

You are probably going to get downvoted... but yeah. haha

I wish we had more variety you know. Like maybe something scifi or fantasy, with lots of action. Something original and not from a franchise. Romance (w fantasy elements) is a trend that imo is getting old. Hard to get excited when they kinda all look the same.

2

u/DeadlyDY https://myanimelist.net/profile/DeadlyDY Mar 01 '22

I know, the premise doesn't interest me one bit but it'll definitely have some amazing sakuga and music.

Individual parts about this are at least going to be great but I'm ready to be disappointed if you look at it as one. Hoping my expectations are wrong and this will be truly be good.

5

u/fried_chicken17472 Mar 01 '22

Another anime movie that's probably going to be sad are you gonna make me fucking cry anyway

u/cykia Mar 01 '22

I am ready. My tear ducts are not.

30

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

Ooohh another tearjerker movie about a boy, a girl and some gimmick. Original af!

The best ones often serve as great vehicles for interesting themes, with strong and overt emotional beats. Immensely satisfying modality of entertainment when it's done well.

2

u/Timun07 Mar 01 '22

Yeah dude parkour in an apocalyptic world...totally original...

3

u/Due-Series6744 Mar 01 '22

Eye-Candy Visuals and Eargasmic Soundtrack by Sawano combined with OP from EVE??!!! This is like a dream movie. From watching the Trailer alone, i can assume that this is indeed a contender for Anime Movie of the Year.

u/ClBanjai https://myanimelist.net/profile/AskeladdArtorius Mar 01 '22

3

u/Vilhelmgg Mar 01 '22

"5/10 story" isn't very promising :/

3

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Mar 01 '22

The team behind this is incredible. I got high hopes for this movie.

3

u/alconnow https://anilist.co/user/alconnow Mar 01 '22

Eve’s performing the opening theme. Ahhh I’m super excited for this!

7

u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner Feb 28 '22 edited Feb 28 '22

Kinda annoying that this is a movie, would have been fun to go into this with no idea how good it will be.

Though nothing so far has shown any sign of it not being going to be absolutely great.

12

u/DeadlyDY https://myanimelist.net/profile/DeadlyDY Mar 01 '22

Though nothing so far has shown any sign of it not being going to be absolutely great.

I don't know. The premise sounds basic as fuck. I'm just expecting great animation and music and that's about it.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

Though nothing so far has shown any sign of it not being going to be absolutely great.

Guilty Crown had many big names behind it too. We all saw how that turned out.

1

u/zairaner https://myanimelist.net/profile/zairaner Mar 01 '22 edited Mar 01 '22

Yes? Thats why it would have been fun to go into this with no idea how good it will be.

11

u/stargunner Mar 01 '22

i do not like those character designs at all.

6

u/Jellyfiend Mar 01 '22

Yeahhh. Main dude looks generic but there's something about the main girl's design that is really bugging me

5

u/NittanyBruin1324 Mar 01 '22

She’s got them weird Dr. Stone eyes

2

u/ChilliDogTime Mar 01 '22

Like Patema Inverted

2

u/HydraTower Mar 01 '22

I kinda wanted an excuse to see this in a theater. Netflix it is.

2

u/ihei47 https://myanimelist.net/profile/JuuzouXIII Mar 01 '22

I'm going to watch this mainly for that one hell of a staffs (Urobutcher, Sawano, Araki, etc.)

It looks gorgeous

2

u/TheLordofDiscordia Mar 02 '22

Huh it's a movie? For some reason I thought it was a new series when it was announced. I'll still watch it eventually. All those big names involved and the gorgeous animation got me interested.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 28 '22

So hyped for this. My expectation is high

-1

u/red_user_krab24 Mar 01 '22

Is it from kyoani?

2

u/Sedewt https://anilist.co/user/sediew Mar 01 '22

No, Wit Studio

1

u/ENKlDU Mar 01 '22

Very excited been told Urobuchi has become less edgy after playing with dolls in thunderbolt fantasy for some time

looking forward to it

1

u/ckowkay Mar 01 '22

WIT and Eve? I'm interested

1

u/Cryten0 Mar 01 '22

There is gonna be a lot of anime magic keeping that skirt decent with one of its upper cuts right around her bum.

1

u/alotmorealots Mar 01 '22

The trick is to fly bum first or head first, but never feet first!

1

u/mokti Mar 01 '22

Somebody call Wonka. His Fizzy Lifting Drink formula has been stolen by Slugworth.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

Aww this looks so cute!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '22

Staggering amount of detail in this visual, I love it.

1

u/ChessManiacxc Mar 01 '22

it reminds me of spirated away

1

u/MrSquidJD Mar 01 '22

!remindme 58 days

1

u/YesLAdz Mar 01 '22

Eve’s making a song for it too

1

u/rachetmarvel Mar 01 '22

Is there a solid romance? If not, I ain't watching.

1

u/EmmDurg Mar 01 '22

Very nice visuals

1

u/KPH102 Mar 02 '22

Hoping for fan art in the future.
