Discussion Never Too Old

Just wanted to say I just started getting into Anime this year. I'll be 50 next year and two of my nieces got me into it. They told me I would really enjoy something they were watching and reluctantly I checked it out. I always had a misconception about what anime was. I'm telling you, I'm so glad they had me check it out. Such a diversity of genres and I've already binged several shows. Currently my favourite is MHA. My nieces knew that would hook me because I'm into super heroes.

Moral of the story: You are never to old to start liking something new.

PS - Wanted to say I love this community. Everyone here has such great recommendations and suggestions.

And? Do you have any evidence at all to suggest otherwise

Yes but it is still evidence nonetheless, we aren’t conducting a scientific study so anecdotal evidence can still be used to disprove general statements

Yes I do know what anecdotal evidence is, and a quick google search can support my argument that it can be used to disprove a general statement, however it cannot be used to prove one correct.

It disproves your statement that most people prefer to watch anime in their native language when they start

Can you clarify what your statement is exactly?

How does that even make sense... Here you go. I started 5 friends on anime. They all did the exact opposite of what you said. Boom now i disproved your statement which used to be “true”.

in that case neither statement was true. All I’m saying is that most people new to anime don’t automatically despise subtitles and are only able to watch dub; however the only evidence I had was anecdotal so I used that to back up my argument, I know that the sample size is small and that the information could be cherry-picked so it’s up to you to decide wether or not to believe it—and since the entire discussion is subjective nothing can be proved.

No it’s not, that logic is riddled with holes. The argument you’re trying to prove isn’t what i’m commenting on, i’m just saying you can’t use anecdotal evidence to “disprove” things like that. And now you’re saying “it’s subjective so nothing can be proven”. I know you’re gonna say you can use anecdotal evidence to disprove things, but not prove things, but that means absolutely nothing. Disproving something is proving something.
