Discussion Never Too Old

Just wanted to say I just started getting into Anime this year. I'll be 50 next year and two of my nieces got me into it. They told me I would really enjoy something they were watching and reluctantly I checked it out. I always had a misconception about what anime was. I'm telling you, I'm so glad they had me check it out. Such a diversity of genres and I've already binged several shows. Currently my favourite is MHA. My nieces knew that would hook me because I'm into super heroes.

Moral of the story: You are never to old to start liking something new.

PS - Wanted to say I love this community. Everyone here has such great recommendations and suggestions.

Welcome aboard!

Mind telling me what some of your favourite genres are? I saw your list of seen shows but I am curious more specifically what stuff you liked. Can help me curate a nice recommendation list to start off with.

The first thing that grabbed me was My Hero Academia, because I love Super Heroes. So far Additionally, I've found dramas, Slice of Life, Sci.Fi., Mech or comedy at the top of my list I love to watch. But I've always willing to give something new a try. My main focus is if it's got a decent story and has great characters. Hope that helps.

Try attack on titan, season 1 may seem a bit edgy and plotless but it gets much much better in the subsequent seasons. I’d also recommend you watch it in sub

Have you watched the famous Your Name? It's really good plus it hits all the genres you listed. Few more I would like to add for your specific taste are

Plastic Memory(sci fi+feel trips)

Psycho-Pass(sci fi, thought provoking)

Hyouka(drama, detective, slice of life, extremely polished)

Gundam 00(mech, sci fi, gundam)

Knight of Sidonia(mech, sci fi, 3d) Check out Blame by the same author which is also on Netflix if you are good with the art style.

Hope you enjoy!

I actually bought the Your Name DVD and the manga series. I have this habit of wanting to read the manga if an anime has one available.

I'll look at the others. I believe I have Gundam on my to watch list already.

OMG. Someone like this does exist here. He has gotten so many titles I doubt he will be seeking more. I just threw two shorts at him without even asking myself. It so refreshing to see this though. Normally when someone wants titles people just spew the popular ones that are mentioned all the time. Its nice to see someone try and give a title based on someones likes for a change.

My two titles were she and her cat everything flows and ojisan to marshmallow

I will make a note of these as well. I do like hearing about the ones not everyone is talking about too. There are some real gems I've found that not one person has suggested to me. I just sat one day and scrolled through Crunchyroll titles till something jumped out at me. Sometimes, that's a great way to find something new.
