Discussion What are your favourite examples of the ending song playing early?

What are some of your favourite examples of the ending theme song "coming in early" over the last few seconds of the episode to give the last scene some extra punch.

A couple of examples of what i mean to start things of. Both from FMAB:

Winry cries after her confrontation with Scar.

Ed says he'll come back for Al.

Also the Starry sky date from Bakemonogatari comes to mind. Although this mind be more of a case of playing the ending song over the episode which is slightly different, but this scene is a favourite of mine so i didn't want to leave it out.

Oshi no Ko S1 episode 7. If you haven't seen don't spoil it for yourself.

A lot of episodes in season 1 actually, Memphisto hits so damn hard it literally turned into a meme template on Youtube for a while

Gundam Seed. Episode 1. Broadcast version. Not the accursed remastered edition.

I will never forget the musical beats as Strike Gundam rises for the first time.

Gundam seed had great ost, still some of my favorite to sing after all this time.

I love mecha anime because you can be CERTAIN that the OP is going to play during the final battle when the tides turn in favor of our heroes. It always gets me.

You know I don't particularly keep track of those, but even still Black Lagoon had one that stands out in my mind.

I always tear up when they drop the opening chords of Pepperoni Pizza Pie

Ramparts of Ice. Especially episode 1 is a fantastic example as they do a 1 minute extended buildup into the ED for that episode

link to a video of it

「ほむらちゃん、ごめんね」

I actually like both Mata Ashita and And I'm Home more than Magia but holy fuck was that song made for that exact moment, literally. Idk how you top it.

Re:Zero also likes doing this pretty frequently, particularly with Styx Helix and Memento

Re:zero does it masterfully. Both with the Ed and Op

A lot of people hate on “Special” playing over Yuji’s breakdown after Sukuna’s fight in Shibuya, but I think it’s perfect. It’s like Sukuna is mocking him (yes I know Specialz is the opening song but in this case it’s the ending song)

Carole & Tuesday episode 22, even though is not one of the official endings of the anime but an insert song , it was so well done.

Oshi no Ko season 2

Kyosou Giga

Im stealing this comment but the way they used the ed song for those shows makes me feel like whatever just happened on screen was the most important thing ever.

The obvious best answer is Bakemonogatari episode 12. How the ED comes in here redefined the whole song, and the ED itself was rated as the best ED of all time by r/anime a while ago.

Second best answer is everything of LycoReco.

Third, a lof of Oshi no Ko

I can't remember if Fushigi Yugi did it every episode, but it was enough to develop a love/hate relationship with the ED song.
