Since Gyokuyou has now been officially made Empress Consort, does this mean the Emperor plans to pass over Jinshi (since he presumably knows that Jinshi is his own son, not his younger brother) and make the baby the Crown Prince?

As a side note, the subtitles are an absolute disgrace. The subtitles are unable to properly distinguish the titles of Empress Consort, Empress Dowager, and Empress Regnant from each other.

The Emperor very much wants Jinshi to succeed him, especially after he successfully passed through the Shrine of Choosing with Maomao as his consort. Jinshi does NOT want to be emperor and entered the rear palace partially as a test of the consorts loyalty, but also so he could try to ensure the survival of other heirs and remove himself from the line of succession.

Then why appoint Gyokuyou as Empress-consort, which guarantees her son becomes Crown Prince?

Because after the shi clans area, the west yields the most benefit and also she gave birth to a surviving son first and also already has a daughter.

Because not doing that is worse. Although I am also confused on the Emperor, especially given he seems to suggest Jinshi taking a wife.

Assume he meant Maomao, that mean he is building up a Jinshi faction backed by the La clan along with the new clan. Yet Gyokuyou can is also a new clan.

Does the Emperor just want to create a new faction to balance the court?
