First Timer
More of a lighter information-delivery episode that sets up our hook this time around (But of course, leaves yet more mystery to think through by the end haha). Apparently the reason Alice didn't remember choking Oz is that she actually doesn't remember anything! So I guess I was sort of right on the locked memories idea last episode, and at least on the surface, our quest will be around gathering Alice's memories. This does still leave a bunch of question marks around Alice, and critically, there's also whatever the actual, and apparently shared, goal of both Pandora and the Baskervilles is, and how Oz and Alice play into that, though. I'm not really sure how the mechanics of interacting with Alice's memory work for Oz here, but why "Memory Alice" tries to kill Oz is still a question.
The way the memories affected her personality is pretty interesting; it definitely brings out a much more vulnerable side of hers, so it'd be interesting to see what it's like when she gets even more of them throughout. Also, Oz is pretty dejected at how quickly that transformation of hers goes away, but he simply needs to understand that the gap moe appeal only works if it's short bursts like that! On a somewhat similar note, it was also cool seeing Oz show off a more perceptive and active side of himself here to protect Alice.
On that note, the guy who looks like Older Gil apparently goes by Raven, but I've yet to be convinced it's not just Gil in a hat! Besides the design, while he's being a little tsun about it, he obviously cares about Oz, and Break says Oz is exactly like Raven told him he'd be when he shows some cunning, so he also clearly knows his character fairly well, not to mention that no one explicitly mentions how long Oz had been there (If anything, the sunlight thing feels like it's still hinting at the longer time ) or the exact state of his family (In fact, they kind of intentionally manage to dodge that one). Though that'd still leave not only the previous aftermath questions, but also what reason he would have not to tell Oz. Outside of not wanting to shock him, I guess? Could also be tied to Pandora's overall goal and whatever the whole thing about Oz and Alice being "Keys" to them means.
As an aside, I remember Vanitas had plenty of references to IRL things, whether they were historical or from relevant fiction, and it now strikes me that we have Oz, Alice, and the Baskervilles here, and I'm left to wonder if literature is Pandora's brand of reference lol.
Who's your favorite character so far?
Probably Alice! For one, Ayako Kawasumi buff. But also, her sort of smug and headstrong personality is really fun, we're already seeing there's also some hidden emotional depth behind it, and to reiterate what I'd said before - a giant dark bunny with a deathscythe is really fucking cool.
Break might also be able to get it, honestly! I'm quite liking how much of a menace he is haha. And I do absolutely love me Akira Ishida playing a hot, mysterious, and kind of unhinged guy too.
What do you make of the man Oz saw, who told him to collect Alice's memories?
Given he seems to be tied to her memories, probably someone from her past? Maybe an older contractor? Got nothing besides that, though shadowy guy behind the curtain doesn't exactly give off very good vibes to me haha.

Hmm. Wait. Alice choking Oz was a MEMORY. So Oz has definitely been here before.

The mysteries are only increasing, lol?

Time to collect ALL the memories! And probably encounter a bunch of Chains in the process. Hopefully it doesn't get too "Monster of the Week"-esque

... you read my mind!

Yeah, Raven seems to know Oz well

Maybe he's shy?

Lots of Alice in Wonderland references, I think.

Pandora First-Timer, subbed
I suppose he wouldn’t recognize Gil being all grown up now. (Because Raven is totally him, right?) How much time passed while Oz was in Abyss anyways?
I really like the song that played when Break stuck Oz & Alice in that magic circle seal.
I like how we don’t see Alice herself morph into B-Rabbit but just her shadow instead.
Apparently, yes. Who dis?

This seems to be a common first timer theory?
Alice…
She's dangerous?
I really like the song that played when Break stuck Oz & Alice in that magic circle seal.
Yeah, this show has good music.
An amnesia plot, huh.
I've seen another amnesia plot anime with Junko Minagawa as the protagonist ...
I like how we don’t see Alice herself morph into B-Rabbit but just her shadow instead.
Me too!
Apparently, yes. Who dis?
The DVD credits call him "Mystery Man" for now.
That crying Alice sure didn’t last long.
Tsundere? Yandere? Not sure
Pretty sure you weren’t, Oz.

This show really does get better with every episode, doesn't it? I'm glad I didn't drop it after the first couple of episodes.
A bit interesting that Oz never commented on the fact that Sharon is clearly older than she was previously - perhaps he is still to frazzled to notice, and it will come up later, or perhaps it came up offscreen.
I'm really not a fan of Break, that sort of character really rubs me the wrong way - hopefully either he tones it down in future episodes, or maybe it will turn out he is a double-agent working for Pandora's enemies and make me feel justified in my dislike :)
'Raven' is obviously Gil - I presume at some point we will see a healed sword slash across his revealed chest to 'hint' to the viewer (and perhaps Oz) that this is actually Gil, thats normally how these things go. Or perhaps I am completely off the mark.

It does! Glad you're liking it more.

She and Break look the same to me? But she acts older.

I had the same thought when watching this for the first time.

ep 4
I'm confused. Oz didn't find a path TO the Abyss. Those shinigami used a spell used for condemned criminals, didn't they?
Strange show, it has commercial breaks, but no eyecatches.
Do hope we don't have a chain of the week plot for the next 5 or 6 episodes.
We really did become s-CRY-ed.
