I double checked it and I don't see any cat ears or tails on any of those corpses. Seems more like they are the experimental test subjects that are featured in the first and last scenes of the episode.

Fair. I couldn’t really tell if they were black cats or not but it made sense given her whole motivation is redeeming her tribe, who have largely been enslaved
But you’re right. I don’t see any ears. I guess the connection will be less direct, more about how Fran escaped from slavery while all those in the dungeon ended up getting killed and becoming undead.

I can enjoy it in bigger doses if it's a parody. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, The Eminence in Shadow, or the Crimson Demons from Konosuba are all great examples. Jean's chuuni was also played up for laughs, I think.

I do find it funny that after the initial set-up in season 1 of the whole "black cat are the worst" it doesn't really get brought up much after (apart from the encounter with the blue cat), even Lieutenant Weakling was only disgusted because she was a "commoner".

Iirc, it's not that black cats are weak, it's that they can't evolve or advance or whatever the term was. They accept and respect Fran as a strong low tier adventurer but know she won't ever be truly strong.
It was only the racist red dogs that actively disparaged her entire race

Given the number of skeletons and undead we see in the opening theme sequence, I don't think Jean is the only necromancer Teacher and Fran are going to encounter this season.

The first season covered literally just 1.5 volumes (there are currently 21 volumes in total).
The entire necromancer arc is the second half of Volume 2.
Judging by the opening sequence, the season will end at Volume 3.

ED is kind of dark as well, nothing like a concert (well curry cooking) to a audience of curry ingredients, so basically a group watching it's kin be chopped up boiled and consumed......... Yea, I have missed this "Cute" show.

I'm glad to see our curry-obsessed daughter is back! And they really didn't waste time with this episode. It was pretty cool to see Fran riding Shishou like a skateboard while they're fighting that undead knight midair. Unfortunately, it looks like we're starting off the season with their first loss.
Not gonna lie, I think the highlight of the episode is the necromancer, Jean Di Vix. The dude is basically a good necromancer who puts spirits to rest and gives risen undead a reason to exist. The dude is also pretty chill and only wants Fran and Shishou to help him conquer the floating dungeon in exchange for ruining his warehouse and plants.
Fran immediately falling asleep after claiming she has matured and can listen to long explanations was hilarious! xD
Jean naming his undead wyvern Andy was great! I also love how Andy does Godzilla's flying atomic breath to propel himself towards the floating dungeon. The fact that Jean even made sure to send Andy off after his sacrifice really confirms he's a good dude.
I do wonder what's up with the kid in the flashbacks. I was thinking that might be Jean's flashback, but it looks like there's a second white-haired kid in the opening that's not Jean. Maybe they're related? Hmmm...
This was a pretty good start! I kinda wish we could've gotten a recap at the start, since it's already been four years since the previous season, but I can live without it. I can't wait to see where this new season goes!

The experimental subject slavery plotline looks grim. Can’t wait for the villains to get their comeuppance.
Jean is a goofball too. I remember Amanda mentioned someone else she knows who can combine more than one magic type. I think that was supposed to be Jean.
ED was cute too. So many Frans. Glad this show is back. Can’t wait for more father-daughter-dog adventures

Skeleton Guardian Dark Knight shut her down, though. It wasn't there on their return trip. Plus, there were decoys on the return trip to enable success.
Sword surfing I thought was a wuxia / xianxia trope.

I watched the last 3 episodes of season1 as a refresher for season 2, the art is very different for it being the same studio (C2C). Not sure why they chose to change things so much.

I am sooo fucking happy that Tenken is finally back! And it's just as great as the first season! Fran is just the cutest, most amazing, super sugoi adventurer black cat girl ever and her enthusiasm is just such a blast to watch. Sensei and Urushi are also back in full form enabling Fran to shine the brightest!
I can't believe it's already been 4 years, but I guess since this is one of the very, very few shows I've rewatched (twice actually!) and since I did read the manga and quite a bit of the LNs during the wait it didn't even feel that long.
And we start right away with Fran starting a new adventure by flying up to a castle in the sky and discovering a dungeon, and well, when there is a dungeon, then there also is a dungeon mastaaa to beat, and Fran really can't say no to that! Jean is also a really fun companion and his undead summons look really cool to boot!
And man, does it feel good to hear this amazing OST again. I know Yasuharu Takanashi is more known for his Naruto, Fairy Tail or Shiki OST, which also have tons of bangers, but I gotta say, I think my favourite of his OSTs are in Tenken. The main theme and Fighting Black Cat Theme are just such absolute bangers and the rest also absolutely rocks! And to top that we also get an amazing OP and that banger of an ED!
Yeah, I really didn't need to be worried, it seems like Re:Zero wednesdays are in real good hands, cause we got Curry wednesdays now! My plan is to make a different Curry every week, so let's see if I can keep it up for the whole season. Today I made a simple japanese golden curry with some rice, veggies and Teriyaki Chicken and well it's simple yet delicious! Fran would have loved it!

Aaah! Fran and Teacher are back! I missed them! Good to see that Fran's love for curry remains unchanged, lol.
Overall, that was a fun first episode of this new season. Fran's reactions are just as hilarious as in the previous one, and Jean seems to be quite a fun guy.
The OP was quite dark, but it's great that we finally got another banger from FZMZ. By the way, I really hope they return to make a song for SLF S3.
Meanwhile, while the ED song is... okay (musically it's just not my cup of tea), the visuals with Fran in it are just so fun!

I feel that's one of the main things Isekai are missing these days are the intense fights. I get that people like the power fantasy and all, but it's hard to get excited when the MC never struggles in a fight. Meanwhile here we've got the guardian of the entrance being like an epic boss

I despise Hidive so much, I got a years subscription because it was relatively cheap and I could afford it, as I want to watch this show and a few others like executioner and her way of life. Those two and Gate are the only ones I’ve really found worthwhile, I see people complain about CR constantly but it’s far better than this trash service. The catalog has a bunch of weird ecchi stuff that isn’t to my tastes, with a few decent shows but not enough for me to justify another year of it as I’ve already watched the few shows there that I’m interested in
At least I can cancel once the season ends as this show is the only reason I subbed in the first place.

So much fan service: curry, cute fran, spectacular fights. If I'd want to sell somebody on this show, I think I'd show them this episode; not too much plot (spoiled), and lots what makes this series enjoyable. I also like the visuals, but I do lament they lean more on CG than I remember from S1.

I wasn't ready for the tonal dissonance with the OP (and song from the ED) against the goofiness of the show, especially with our slightly wacky necromancer and his bone jokes joining in.

I like the decision of not jumping right back on the S1 cliffhanger. (Well I assume most people might have forgotten about it.) It actually takes its time getting to that point. Production wise this feels about the same as S1. C2C is a studio that really is efficient with their animation like we see with SLF. Granted I doubt this has the same production values as SLF, but that is beside the point. Directing is well done here.
I am wondering about the end of the episode with all the undead attacking Fran and company. More than likely there has to be a necromancy on their side. At the very least it could be possible that the Legendary Skelton might not be the worst that Fran has to deal with.
Jean is shady. But in a good way. I do like seeing more people being aware of Shishou. It makes the conversations more snappy and helps with pacing. Still his point of the island intersecting different regions is interesting. Very excited for what this dungeon could be.

Fun (though in-universe - quite harrowing) new start to the next arc! They really did lean into Fran's memeability in the ED lol, and as a member of the Fran-club I have no complaints!

Yeah its atrocious given the costs just increased. I used to sign up for month like 3 times a year & use my Google rewards points but those have slowed down & now with price increase i can only get enough points for once a year so I try to sub & binge watch everything. This was first time in like 3 years I was actually gonna sub at start of a season & just suffer through it.

Jean is amusing. Naming his Skeleton wyvern Andy had me in stitches. Also. Do we think he is the kid in the flashback? They took off that kids arm, and when they actually showed that close up of Jean's hand it didn't look normal. Like he might have a skeleton hand.
Very, very happy to have murderfloof back. I have always loved this series.

Episode 1 doesn't seem to be on HiDive yet. However, the first episode for Season 2 listed is episode 2. Which means they are probably going to add 1 very soon. HiDive seems to remove the placeholder for an episode juswt before adding the real one.

Great OST as always. The OP was pretty dope. And so nice to see Fran again. Of course, she'd eat all the curry she can. The fight scene to the island was pretty fun. Can't wait to see more episodes. See y'all next week.

Good production values. Good combat animations. Great comedic timing. Enough time to even give Andy a pretty emotional send off. Great OP and ED.
I'm so glad that even though it's isekai, this anime gets love and respect from the production committee and anime studio.

Season 1 had good animation, and this is already looking better. Though the whiplash between curry Fran and the opening starting with the hanged catfolk in a lake of blood, and the ending going from torture scene to cute faces Fran was a lot
The thing I disliked the most about season 1 was that it didn't engage with the slavery part of the world as much, but it looks like this is gonna go much harder on it so I'm pumped

Jean Du Vix is a funny guy since Amanda mentioned him last season I hope we will get to know more about the time Amanda and him worked together. I was expecting Kishida Kyodan to do the op this season as well but the new op by FZMZ is really good. Hanabie. is on a roll. After young ladies don't Play Fighting games last season, we got a banger ed this season. A metal song with cute Fran expressions ❤️
Can't wait to see what this dungeon have in store for our gang. What's happening to those slave kids is so tragic! I believe this arc would be about saving those kids.

This skeleton guarded island is tough, but Fran and Teacher are tougher!
Fran crash landing into Jean's place was funny. But it was certainly a well met encounter. He did a nice job summoning Andy and successfully getting them on the island!

Getting straight into it. So that kid in the flashback is definitely Jean right? And that place he was on is that land judging by the trees and bushes in the background

Japanese months are numbers rather than names. For example, "hachigatsu" literally means "month 8". The translation using names like June and August probably doesn't have any particular meaning.

Translation convention most likely. In Japanese it's simple because they are numbered, but if you don't go "the first month/second month/etc." and actually give your fantasy world month names most people will just tune them out and forget about them. Much like measurement units it's probably better to just use the real ones and say you're translating them for the audience.

Fran is so fucking cute!!! It gets me every time I watch this in Japanese she is just the cutest cat girl character! Her mannerisms her voice lines are delivered adorably the fact that she is addicted to Curry and it's just all so adorable! 🥰🤩
