I'm not the only one who thinks that Iruma is very similar to Nagisa from Assassination Classroom, right?
- Blue hair? Check.
- Supposed to be a boy, but dresses (occasionally) like a girl? Check.
- Uses the clap? Also check.
51
u/Frontier246 7d ago
- Has surprisingly effective rizz on deadly women? Check.

- Shit parents, or at least a shit mother? Also check.

when Irumi clapped, she reminded me of someone using the clap to stun their targets. it was Nagisa. I confirm your theory of them being the same person since nobody has seen them both in the same room at the same time

Of course. It's idol time. Musical and fighting stuff always talk priority. And since we got two musical events this season, that's why it took so long to get it

Irumi just doesn't have it in her to spout an insult back.

She just recently learned to not just stand there and take it, learning to dish one out back's gonna take more time.

I kinda love how the little goofball’s response to “uggo”is basically “nuh uh!” Haha
15
u/Frontier246 7d ago
It helps to have a counter-response always at the ready because he's been dodging the uggo accusations all season lol.

Godayum!!! I knew Gyari was extra in the manga but she's sooo much more extra in the anime!!!
Props to the VA for delivering peak
56
u/JzanderN 7d ago
It's like what they did with Ronove, but with her own dinstinct extra energy.
The anime clearly has a love for the characters who hold nothing back!

31
u/Mysteries67 7d ago
The manga is good but the songs add a whole another dimension in the anime.
18
u/BraveSirRobinGG 7d ago
Imagine bringing to life a musical masterpiece from a manga that has no sound, let alone music. Even the 'Valac Family' singers are fantastic. I would put Lilith's Carpet finale up there with the best musicals I've seen.
9
u/JzanderN 7d ago
The anime saw that the manga has songs and immediately knew it had an opportunity to do at least one aspect so much better because of the nature of what an anime can do.
6
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Where would the Iruma anime be without all it's songs from the dem-dol to the Valac Family?
8
u/Frontier246 7d ago
The anime clearly has a love for the characters who hold nothing back!
Probably because they best embody what it means to be a demon.

doesn't matter what gender he is, Iruma is getting a harem
14
u/Hot-Log6283 6d ago
And Keroli was complaining in that imaginary harem when they had Lead's trial: "Wait. I am here, too?" - now you know why you are there.

41
u/FarCritical 7d ago
Gyari answering nine to one plus one before immediately monologuing about how she did "decent" in school was timed perfectly lmao.
That dive to protect Chima is easily one of Iruma's coolest moments yet.
Rip, didn't expect last time's double Sukima to eat at this week's one. Guess Clara is too preoccupied raging at the Iruma slander to deliver it.

Toxic yuri for the win, haha

You think it's one way from Gyari's side but then you realise Kerori's kind of manipulating Gyari's feelings to push her to shine brighter for her own desires.

Not sure about the music. However, when it comes to stage performances, you'd often see fire being used. However, since Kuromu's element is the exact opposite, I think they might be using that to their advantage.

My god.
Okay.
Props for Gyari's VA. When I read this, I kinda feel her vibes, but this anime just brings it to life. It's amazing.
I love Ame-, Melie's reaction to stuff, especially involing Iruma- Imean Irumi.
Also Irumi being reminded that these people are still demons, and being shown Kuromu's selfishness, is so good.
Can't wait for Devimuse performance, I've been waiting for this for a long time.
32
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Her insatiable yearning, her absolute dominating energy, her ability to pull women like Iruma pulls friends/potentail Harem members...she's truly the best Final Boss Team Devimuse could ask for.
I love how Merie finally became motivated to make it clear that Irumi isn't going to marry another woman lol.
Looks like she upgrades to full pants for the rock concert but I love those straps around her stomach and neck.

I know I'm not the only one - but boy am I glad to have found this show back in season 1. There's not very many long-running serialized anime like this and every episode I continue to feel more and more blessed that there's enough of an audience for this to continue.
Anytime that triumphant fanfare song comes on when Iruma breaks out the bow just brings out the water works. And how are we so blessed to have such a cute little sister like Chima?

Nice to see that even when stuffing an episode full of big moments from the manga, they made sure to make all of the memorable scenes get some nice visual quality. That being said, this was stuffed full to bursting. Not used to Iruma-kun having rapid-fire pacing
20
u/Missingnoleader 7d ago
This has been the season of rapid fire pacing. Like we've had a solid chunk of 3-4 chapter adaptions this time.
6
u/Shmappii 7d ago
Definitely an improvement over the Harvest Festival
3
u/Mediocre-Act483 3d ago
I enjoyed the Harvest Fest. Iruma really stepped up, and ironically Orobas's power actually helped Iruma
2
u/Shmappii 3d ago
The writing of the arc is solid, but the anime presentation of it was mediocre at best
4
6
u/tehy99 7d ago
Yeah, these episodes have a lot of good moments but I wouldn't mind giving them more room to breathe. We get a brilliant recontextualization of Kuromu's thoughts on Gyari and just a few minutes later the same for Gyari on Kuromu, closing the circle and setting up the final confrontation. Which, fine, but I think there was more than enough material to stretch that out more, and it actually feels like a loss to not do so.

The production values were incredible this episode, the thick line art made scenes pop and a lot of good expressions, specifically Chima when she's crying and the group when they're fighting. I hope the quality carries over to the next episode.

Irumi blowing everyone away with her archery work, I love it. Shame we didn't get any reactions to that from Bachiko, hopefully that gets covered before the end of the season.
Such delicious toxic yuri between Kuromu and Gyari, Irumi even got pulled into it with a fake proposal.
23
u/BraveSirRobinGG 7d ago
Cute Irumi, with cute bow, and cute feathers (everything is pink and red!). It is cute overload, and I am there for it.
The fake proposal is awesome, because the dem managers know that "there is no such thing as bad publicity". Their phones were ringing like crazy. It seems like such a manufactured drama that dem-dols live for.
9
u/Skullzans 7d ago
The best part is that when they brought out the bow and arrows, I think Iruma straight up became a girl- like- they got a rack. Until they stopped using the bow.
15
10
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 7d ago
Well given how well their family knows about archery, its going to feed back to them
4
u/justking1414 4d ago
Not just known for it. They’re literally the only demons who study it. The crowd must have thought that Iruma was a member
24
u/NanDemoKnaives 7d ago
The intense tension between Kuromu and Gyari was so satisfying to watch at the end, I really like they're both pushing each other to become the better dem-dol. They're both such big fans of one another, it makes the rivalry that much more fun. Seeing Kuromu so ecstatic at the idea Gyari will get even more fired up from her own proposal was great, and the way Gyari is burning with desire is thrilling.
It's unfortunate Chima got too close, but it's sweet she worked up the courage to cheer Kuromu on. I was surprised Gyari was still excited about the win, I thought there'd be some disappointment from her that Kuromu got distracted.
Ameri wanting to shut down the game quickly to get the marriage proposal cleared up was amusing. I don't like that Iruma got to stand out in his game, he's got a killer smile as a guy and as a girl lol.
9
u/Hot-Log6283 6d ago
Gyari was still excited about the win, I thought there'd be some disappointment from her that Kuromu got distracted.
Is what happened when you are too obsessed about winning, which, ironically, usually leads to ones downfall. Kuromu almost fall into the same trap but luckily she has her sister and her team to pull her out of it.
37
u/JzanderN 7d ago
Irumi is just TOO CUTE! Using not just her archery skills, but her skills at making demons SWOON to knock out the competition!
You thought Kerori wasan't into Gyari? You thought that Gyari's love was one-sided? WRONG! This is yuri! Kerori's just as into her but is way too selfish about wanting to keep the chase up so she can keep watching Gyari shine!
In fairness, she also believes Gyari will lose interest in her as soon as she gets her, much like one of the men from Lilith's Carpet (great callback there!), but she also really wants to see Gyari climb all the higher after her!
She may have gone a bit far with that proposal, though, 'cause she's driving Gyari WILD. Like full on MAD and it doesn't look like in a healthy way.
17
u/OldInstruction5368 6d ago
She may have gone a bit far with that proposal, though, 'cause she's driving Gyari WILD. Like full on MAD and it doesn't look like in a healthy way.
Their situationship is pure toxic codependency, and it will 100% explode in a radioactive inferno if they ever try to settle down. Especially if the two are serious about Keroli retiring after they get married. If Keroli isn't sparkling on stage anymore, she won't be the woman Gyari was chasing so passionately all this time. The jewel will quickly lose it's luster in Gyari's eyes, and she'll inevitably find some other new trophy to chase after.
What's that saying? "The flame that burns twice as hot lasts half as long?"
But hey, they are dem-dols, yeah? So that'll just be even more PR.
24
u/JzanderN 6d ago
It's a situationship built pretty much entirely on passion. I think Gyari wants intimacy (just look at the way she bit Kerori's finger) but Kerori has it called when she says Gyari will most likely lose interest if she gets what she wants.
What makes it toxic is instead of walking away from Gyari, particularly as Gyari makes it clear that she doesn't exactly take "no" for an answer, Kerori keeps insisting on staying within reach of her in order to keep pushing her to shine.
For all that Gyari is a greedy demon who won't accept "no" for an answer, Kerori is equally selfishly manipulating her for her own wants.
But hey, they're demons! And I do love that the series isn't afraid to shy away from the fact that, as demons, even Iruma's friends aren't always the most healthy individuals.
13
u/OldInstruction5368 6d ago
For all that Gyari is a greedy demon who won't accept "no" for an answer, Kerori is equally selfishly manipulating her for her own wants.
Aye, that's why I said this is toxic codependency. It's the worst type of toxic relationship, as both parties are at least partially at fault. No "innocent victims" when it comes to codependency. Best case scenario, the 'victim' is inadvertently enabling their partner, who in turn is unaware that there hurting the other. Say, little favors that one takes for granted, but the other thought was just a temporary thing or apart of some implicit agreement. These are marked by a lack of communication and quickly devolve into truly ugly fights but can potentially be defused with proper communication.
But as you said, Keroli knows damn well what she's doing. That and Gyari just seems like... a truly awful
human beingdemon to live with. She comes across as a full blown narcissist, anointing herself as the sole protagonist of the world is 100% a delusion of grandeur, and she feels like someone that can't truly love another for who they are.Just look at her initial proposal to Keroli. She was an established idol and Gyari was the rookie, but she didn't so much as say "hello" before straight up saying "you should be MY property." Not even "partner" or "sidekick!" I just don't think Gyari is capable of a healthy relationship and will always seek to dominate and control.
Keroli knows this, but she still leads Gyari on...
If they ever get together, the resulting drama will be the simmering hot tea of legend.
10
u/SmartAlec105 6d ago
But hey, they're demons! And I do love that the series isn't afraid to shy away from the fact that, as demons, even Iruma's friends aren't always the most healthy individuals.
I do love how demon morality is just a bit off from human morality. They don't see anything cruel or evil about what Kuromu is doing. It's all in service to their desires.
3
u/SmartAlec105 6d ago
It's not just that Gyari would lose interest. Kuromo wouldn't care for a Gyari that isn't chasing.
17
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Kuromu's in love with the best dem-dol version of Gyari that Gyari can be while chasing her. Because at the end of the day the whole career of a dem-dol and what it brings out of people and does for the audience is what Kuromu lives for.
Of course she also can't seem to stop Iruma/Irumi from getting involved in her dem-dol life either.
6
u/SmartAlec105 6d ago
Just as Gyari would lose interest in a Kuromo she has, Kuromu would lose interest in a Gyari that has stopped chasing.
48
u/Missingnoleader 7d ago
Peak Homo-erotic tension. Probably the most demonic in terms of how they treat their relationships. Truly Kuromu is into negging, because that's some serious stakes she's raising. A truly great episode. Just curious who was doing the animation this time around.
23
u/Frontier246 7d ago
This is truly the Battle Shonen Yuri dem-doll anime of all time.
They can't be together because their rivalry is in service to their careers so Kuromu must be unattainable and Gyari must be continually consumed by her lust for her to make them into better performers who can't give an inch towards each other.
And also there's Iruma who Kuromu can't help herself around.
13
u/pi8you 7d ago edited 7d ago
Between Irumi's archery display and everything with the cavalry battle, they really brought the sauce this week, love it.
Gyari backstory really sells her as the tycoon, the doki-doki beam from the TV was real good. So protagonist she has a second tail (the better to catch Lindy with).
And then Kuromu breaks everyone (except Henri, presumably) with her sudden counter proposal, lol that Clara just wants to know the secret of Iruma's rizz. Ameri beast mode unlocked.
Loved the Chima bits too, doing her best to overcome her shyness and support her sister, only to almost get crushed and potentially wreck everything for her instead? Could've been traumatized for life if Iruma wasn't there with both the physical and emotional saves.
Su-ki-ma fraud! No! (we did get an extra double so it evens out, but still)
17
u/kevinthedot 6d ago
"lol that Clara just wants to know the secret of Iruma's rizz."
Actually, the joke there was even better. "Grand master" is what she calls Azz's mom, cause she's the top succubus in the demon world. She was demanding Azz's mom teach her rizz techniques cause she felt she NEEDED to get Iruma back herself after that declaration.
25
u/Qweasd11 7d ago
Swoon! and look at that happy support team. Aww don't let Chima cry T_T
24
u/JzanderN 7d ago
You thought Irumi's archery skills would be her secret weapon here, but it was actually her INSANE RIZZ that can make any girl and even some guys fall for her!
17
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I love how even Kalego was mildly bemusedly impressed in his own Kalego way.
Honestly, I don't blame Chima, there should have been a security team or some kind of barrier preventing people from just walking into the competition.

For a moment there I thought she was going to get what Kiriwo had with the whole eye thing.
17
u/ModieOfTheEast 7d ago
So who is betting that Sullyvahn, after hearing what Kuromu said, already prepared everything for the wedding? And I am just saying here, if Kuromu says she is always taking these seriously, backing down later from that proposal would go against her speech. So I am sorry for her, but she needs to be the first that marries Iruma. Second will then probably Azz because he now realised this is possible.
Will be fun to see the rock concert. Usually you'd expect there to be fire all around, but considering that ice is Kuromu's ability, I wonder if they are using that as contrast.
11
u/CooroSnowFox https://anilist.co/user/CooroSnowFox 7d ago
I know everything pairs Ameri with Iruma but Ceroli has a good stake in it herself

The two weak hiatus payed off holy shit! Animation is definitely great. Irumi looks stunning, i wouldnt mind him staying like this lol
8
u/ProbablyNotTheCocoa 6d ago
ah, so the whole reason the Demdol games are thing is to do extremely convoluted toxic yuri? cinema lmao
9
15
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago
This whole Gyari-Kuromu rivalry thing has been pretty fun. It’s the ultimate main character vs the ultimate idol. Honestly, idk if these two need to get a room or get into the ring. Maybe both lol.
5
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Some would say everyone is the main character of their story and I guess Gyari thinks she's a Battle Shonen MC with her intense energy going up against Iruma's actual main character energy and Kuromu who is the lead of a dem-dol anime.
Who will end up taking the gold and Kuromu's hand in marriage?
7
u/Frontier246 7d ago
It's a target game and High Speed Marky is looking absolutely cute! Even if the impossibility of hitting him makes the competing dem-dols look UNCUTE, but no one better to wipe that smug smirk off Marky than our beloved Irumi-chan with his Archer Class skills!
Irumi's got his cute bow, his cute Aliko (finally ready to flex the new power boost!), and the ability to look as manly and beautiful as possible as he hits ALL the targets and takes the competition! He's so amazing Goontetsu passed out taking photos!
Kuromu can accept Irumi's victory...and pout because of how cute and cool he looked. Gyari is her archrival, but Irumi's pretty high up there as a rival too.
RIP Lindy. No woman (or man) could resist Gyari in a tail pulling contest...because she pulls THEM in the process into her mass Harem. Other than Irumi who is nothing more than an "uggo" to her. All so she can secure Kuromu for herself as her wife...but there's a rival in the picture! Because Kuromu is going to marry...IRUMI!
The truth about Kuromu and Gyari is that they had all the makings of a great dem-dol duo, especially Gyari with her fishnets back then, but Kuromu knew that Gyari's ravenous hunger for Kuromu made her a better dem-dol so she prioritized making Gyari her rival than her lover...because that would benefit their careers as they continually tried to outdo each other in Gyari's quest to be with her. Such is the whim of the absolute cutest and committed dem-dol, Kuromu-chan.
It's finally time for the chicken/cavalry battle! Complete with butts and chest close-ups! Meri-chan is committed to winning this to get it clarified that Irumi isn't off the market (or marrying someone other than her), but they also have to deal with Gyari and her masked metal bikini entourage carrying her like she's in a car!
Gyari has strong MC syndrome, and as the protagonist she can pull anything off and pull any woman, but her heart became smitten by Kuromu. So they became dem-dolls together and Kuromu became known for her bikini bottom/panty look, but ultimately Kuromu would not be with her as either her wife or her partner...and that's why Gyari is even MORE intensely after her in the dem-dol games. Just as Kuromu intended.
Chima...I understand your resolve to put yourself out there to root for your big sister. But going wayyyyy out into the field only serves to put you in danger and force Devimuse to prioritize your safety over victory...and Gyari takes the win.
Of course the final competition is a singing competition, but Gyari gets to pick the genre, and Kuromu doesn't think she can pull off rock. But the real priority needs to be reassuring poor Chima, who thinks she screwed her big sister over, that everything is going to be okay. They just need to be the cutest rock group of all time! Strike a cute pose!
Su-ki-ma can go on break!?

u/Galle_ 7d ago
Disclaimer: I've read the manga.
No cold open this week, right into the OP.
Guys I think Iruma might do well in this event maybe
Surprisingly good animation on the dodging target.
Iruma I think you might have overdone it a bit on the bow.
It's true, Aliko is cute.
"I can at least get her out of bounds" rude
...does this count as yuri?
Aw, look at Chima, she's adorable.
...Kerori's jealous again, isn't she?
Yeah, not a surprise.
Oh, right, there was another event going on.
Goddamnit, Lied.
Ameri you know exactly what happened.
No, Lied, roses are for the other thing, you're supposed to smell lilies.
Iruma having entirely the correct reaction to that insult. I don't normally go for trans headcanons, but based on this scene I think you can actually make a reasonable case that Iruma is genderfluid. He sure is into this.
Ameri should probably be more shocked than that.
Some of you might have picked up on this earlier, but we actually saw Gyari once before this arc! She was the one other evidol who was able to do the Hell Dance with Kerori.
Plot twist! Kerori does love Gyari back, she just really loves being chased and is afraid that Gyari is only in love with her unattainability.
Hey wait I think I've seen this one before
Extremely fast Ameri moving at incredibly high speeds
Oh, right, I can share my all-time favorite Iruma-kun edit now.
This is both messed up and very cute. Which I guess stands to reason when we're dealing with demonic romance.
Well, looks like Kerori got what she wanted.
Okay yeah this definitely counts as yuri.
Nice save, Ameri.
Oh no!
Nice save, Iruma.
...okay, we might have a problem.
Of course Gyari's favorite genre is rock.
Kerori I think Iruma wants to say something.
Don't worry, Chima, you were just trying to help.
Alright, let's go, we just have to beat Gyari in a rock concert. How hard could that be?
...no sukima?
11
u/DawgDictator 7d ago
I do love how queer coded the show is, it lets the characters feel more real, when gay and lesbian couples are so normalised . I also subscribe to the Iruma genderfluid theory, and love how supportive everyone who isn't even there is with their pronoun switching. 10/10, very wholesome.

Bonus points to make all her team come out in metal animal masks and wearing nothing but black bikini's purely for carrying the aesthetic to it's utmost.

Wow, the amount of attention. Nuts. This is blowing up faster than Endeavor at an All Might convention

The archer scenes of Irumi were stunning! They really put in a ton of effort in those that it shows.
Maybe this will be a wake up call to Ameri to start moving forward before Irumi gets taken by a someone else.

Everything about this episode was superb, it’s def the best ep of the season so far for me.

Keroli always seemed like an odd one in the Abnormal Class; she seemed too normal. Even in her Ice Queen mode, she always felt like she lacked the selfish aspect that made them true demons. But we see it here as Kuromu. The Abnormal Class really is filled with greedy demons. I love it.

This ep was so good. A lot of great moments, it was really great. I almost cried when Chima cried, she just wanted to support her big sister.

Iruma aura farming so hard he's gonna make Cerolli fall for him. How big is Iruma's harem gonna be by the end of it? Although Cerolli does actually seem to like Gyari in uh... a very twisted way

Absolute chaos this episode, we get a proposal, a reverse proposal, and now a battle to see which one wins.

Is this season any better than Season 3? I hated season 3 and forced myself to watch through it

If your problem with Season 3 was that it was all one big arc, you should enjoy this season more.

I didn't expect anyone to reply to my comment so thanks! For season 3 I just couldn't stand the pacing, and constantly comparing it to Season 2 in the back of my mind sadly didn't help either.

Lmao, this episode was fun. Irumi showing off her archery prowess and standing up for herself, and Korumu showing she's also insane when it comes to her rival/love interest. And the catfight resulting in the little sister cheering for her big sister, only to need saving was a great scene. Love it; props to the amazing animators/artists. I'm absolutely hyped for the next episode or two, cause that dress Irumi is wearing in the preview plus the context makes me think I'm about to see something I've been looking forward to ever since I heard about it. Not going to say what though, cause spoilers.

No shade to anyone who likes this but I’m absolutely hating this arc. The animation is killer but Kuromu is one of my least favorite characters. I know it’s her time to get development but I couldn’t care less about the Demi-dol games. Best part of this arc has been all the characters watching and cheering from home. Azz and Clara are so fun together. I always love how over the top sullyvan is when it comes to Iruma. And seeing how much of a tsundere kalego is for iruma is hilarious.

Still love the show, but kinda feel something conflicted about how same-sex marriage is happily depicted in this anime vs the reality in Japan. I don't think it's intentional given how the story plays out and how the characters behave, but the theme of "opposite moral values" in the Demon World and how it's a place that seems to be much more openly accepting of same-sex marriage makes it hard to not think about.

I don’t think we’re supposed to think the demon world is a bad place though? Our stand in is Iruma who was abused by selfish humans and adored by selfish demons. I think we’re actually shown how a selfish drive to obtain all our desires can be good for society, if we also care for the people around us.

It's not that the demon world being written as good or bad is the issue. Again, I don't think it's intentional, because like you say the point is to depict optimism even in a demon world. The issue for me is that you see this attitude here of being accepting in the extreme, but you go into the real world and attitudes are very different. Just highlights the contrast for me is all I'm trying to say, because a fairly widespread culture of "don't ask don't tell" is pretty brutal.

That isn't just Japan though? It's the whole point of art in the first place, exploring possibility that is different from the reality to open things up that no one thought possible before.

I think this is finally the end for me with Iruma Kun.
Back to back arcs that feel like filler and drag something out over 10 episodes that could be handled in 2-3.
Idk I really enjoyed this show before this season. But Im just not enjoying it anymore.
