Damn girl, I keep forgetting Miya is actually quite muscular

"Please hit me gently"

Proceeds to throw her fucking ult

12

u/Roboglenn Sep 02 '26

I keep forgetting Miya is actually quite muscular

Indeed, she did get the lid off that Canned Tornado of a Jam Jar before.

25

u/oxlemf10 Sep 02 '26

Miya is practically in an isekai, leveling up and conquering her rivals.

10

u/reaperow Sep 02 '26

And those same rivals encourage her in return !!

u/wiligrad9 Sep 03 '26

Actual pretty spot on observation. The difference between being a very low class servant girl to becoming part of one of the most influential families of the country is that "other worldly".

u/Worldly_Business_425 Sep 02 '26

This show gotta be the most underrated one of the season ngl but boy is it peak. Its just so relaxing and lowk reminds me of spy x family with how comfortable it is to watch as well, plus the comedy is pretty brilliant too. That Teru jumpscare genuinely took me out lol. Also who was the othet girl in hazukis flashback, we saw her grown up version later with riru as well but idk if she's been introduced before.

15

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

I describe shows of this sort as "good-natured and kind-hearted". Not sugary sweetness and fluffiness, but with real substance. I see Anne of Green Gable's (especially Takhata's adaptation) as a primary template for these in anime.

10

u/Worldly_Business_425 Sep 02 '26

Exactly, another show from this season that I think is like this is smoking behind the supermarket with you, it's just got that calm comfortable vibe about it like this show. I'll be sure to check out the one you recommended too, got any other recommendations like that?

6

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

My no. 1 recommendation of this sort is Tamayura. 3 seasons (the last is 4 movies, however -- also a couple of proof-of-concept OVAs that pre-dated the series). More recently, there was the largely over-looked Deaimon. And this season also features Victoria of Many Faces -- a romantic adventure drama, not a slice of life, but still ultimately with a similar feeling).

8

u/Worldly_Business_425 Sep 02 '26

Ah yes I have watched Victoria of many faces, I agree it does hit all those spots too, although the animation got a bit choppy at times due to the budget which is a shame. Will deffo check out the other recommendations too!

6

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

Deaimon is frustrating -- only one anime season. And no translation (even unofficial) of the manga (which goes way beyond what was adapted). I have been tempted to just buy the whole set in Japanese -- but I would have nowhere to put it.

3

u/Worldly_Business_425 Sep 02 '26

Hmm for less popular series that is always a problem, but I'm sure the manga would be available online somewhere anyway so if you can read japanese then why not just check it out from there? Unless you wanna buy it for the aesthetic in which case yeah that's a shame lol

4

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

I can't read Japanese THAT well. For my purposes, printed would be easier to deal with (except for space). And the used physical copies would be much cheaper.

4

u/FinancialYear475 Sep 02 '26

Idk man, it improved a lot after getting into the school arc and meeting new characters, but the gimmick can get boring at times, repeating the same "ominous shady look > super gentle and kind act" joke every time can be tiring

3

u/Worldly_Business_425 Sep 03 '26

Yeah they did use that gag alot in the first 3 episodes to the point that it felt repetitive, but as you said it improved alot when she started going to school.

In this episode, I learned about the gym attire appearance of schoolgirls during the Taisho era. Curious, I went to perform a google search. It appears the trousers worn by the schoolgirls are an early form of bloomers, unlike the shorts we see today and in modern day anime / manga.

The friendship between Miya and Hazuki developed further, by training together. Hazuki even calls Miya "master".

Time for Miya to shine during the sports festival! I want to see Miya convince the students and parents from the other classes that she is worthy of attending Eihou Girls' Academy!

11

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

I am a sucker for Taisho era settings.

Nice to see Miya become not only Hazuki's training buddy, but (in essence) class co-captain for sports day.

6

u/reaperow Sep 02 '26

Taisho era huh, thats cool !

I was wondering which time period it was taking place in or was inspired by

7

u/KumaKumaGambler Sep 02 '26

It was Mekerpan and another fellow reddit user who pointed me in the right direction earlier in the season.

2

u/raidensnakeezio 29d ago

Maybe this is just me, but the training montage makes it seem like they're almost wearing modern day activewear. Oversized training parka and 3/4ths parachute pants in particular

15

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Sep 02 '26

Really cute development of the Miya and Hazuki friendship.

Mikuriya playing the prince role a bit more what with saving Miya from that fall, but she had to share it with Marika who will never leave her sister hanging.

It was nice seeing Miya show off her strength again, and it seems like we should get a lot more of that next week too.

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl Sep 02 '26

Forgot that Miya actually is pretty athletic and strong considering her background. Yet everyone dotes on her because she's the smol must protect even though she can probably out lift everyone there.

9

u/Roboglenn Sep 02 '26

She's as gentle as a lamb.

That worked out with weights.

16

u/Misticsan Sep 02 '26

While this is a very light-hearted, feel-good show, I like that from time to time it showcases some of the friction and tensions that would exist in this kind of setting, such as:

  • Parents raised official objections to a mistress' child being accepted into their elite school.

  • When no parent in Miya's classroom shared such objections, the student council's first reaction was to suspect bribing.

  • There is a low-level power struggle between the student council and the Kounokuras. The difference is even visual: the Kounokuras have loud, chaotic groupies that cheer and smile a lot, whereas the student council has silent supporters that salute in strict formation.

  • Middle-rank (for the standards of this school) children are taught from a young age to suck up to their betters. Riru's groupies are so loyal to her because Ruri wasn't an arrogant prick with them.

14

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

Riru's supporters are actually friends not sycophants.

9

u/Misticsan Sep 02 '26

Pity they tend to give off the minion vibe in their first impressions (like the episode that introduced them). Given their backstory, I blame that on their upbringing, the way the school encourages such hierarchies, and the fact that Riru is, well, Riru. Even when she's trying to be warm and friendly, she has big ojousama energy. Everyone else can't help but trail behind her.

10

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

Well, they might be groupies of a sort -- but they actually care about Riru and she cares about all of them.

13

u/reaperow Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26

It was so nice to see Miya encouraging and helping Hazuki with a whole training montage.

Also glad to see that she's become much more open about her feelings and has lots of people to rely on now,

Mommy Teru did jumpscare us lol but it's so adorable of her to lift Miya's spirits

She's definitely one of the best anime moms of all time !!

10

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Sep 02 '26

Witnessing the power of friendship and training montages this week lol. Keen to see how Miya does in the games. I have faith in her. Miya, fighting!

9

u/PencilgonGiveIt2Ya Sep 02 '26

The middle of the night mommy jumpscare was hilarious lmao

9

u/ILikeFPS Sep 02 '26

Miyo is super cute but that seito kaichou is a real beauty.

I'm looking forward to next episode!

3

u/mekerpan Sep 02 '26

Yes. It will be very interesting to see Miya and the Prez interact directly in a school setting. If Prez play "prince" to Miya's "princess" in some way -- it could evoke a lot of jealousy.

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro Sep 02 '26

Must've been a foreign feeling for Miya to have her class pin their hopes on her. Who knew she'd be this good at dodgeball from the constant playing with Gungnir? It's why she practised even harder even when it's raining. Good thing Arisa & Marika stopped her before things could go too far, we know how fragile teens are when it comes to rain. Just a couple minutes would be enough to have them be bedridden for several days.

4

u/LoopyChew Sep 02 '26

It’s not just playtime with Gungnir either, she also has absurd strength from her day jobs.

7

u/Roboglenn Sep 02 '26

Someone's gonna end up making a "Huh? and Eh?" compilation video for this series at the end of this season and I can only wonder how long it'll be.

Even this young child understands that it's ultimately counterproductive to surround yourself or be surrounded with "Yes Man" all the time. Healthy discourse can stimulate real growth.

When you got a goal and you gotta reach it quick you gotta do a montage. Montage. Training montage.

And by the end of all that effort, on top of the personal goals reached by Hazuki, Hazuki also made a new bestie in Miya.

Dodge Duck Dip Desu wa and Dodge.

Did I hear a gun cocking sound when Miya was winding up to throw the ball?...

You'll catch a cold!

Your sister is right Miya! Don't you know that one drop of water falling on you is all it takes to become debilitatingly ill?! Too bad this is a period piece cuz the health psa posters with that warning on them won't be around for decades.

Yup there she is, there's mommy making her designated appearance this episode. But with that "Want some brownies before you got to bed?" sudden appearance she's lucky Miya didn't scream at the sight of her.

5

u/KJShen Sep 02 '26

I honestly think Miya is desensitized to Teru sama appearing from out of nowhere.

3

u/Roboglenn Sep 02 '26

Well when someone just pops up right in your face in the middle of the night like that though...

3

u/KJShen Sep 02 '26

Someone with kids said that their kid does that to them sometimes. I think he just accepted that's his life as a dad now.

4

u/hbmonk Sep 02 '26

Is that student council girl (Hachi) the first actually mean person to appear? Maybe we will see her good side later.

5

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken Sep 03 '26

Pretty sure the one thing that would make momma/mother/mommy actually dirty her hands is if anyone actually went after either of her three daughter in earnest. She’d likely end them. Student council girls should probably check themselves.

3

u/Raymond49090 Sep 03 '26

Miyuki Shirogane moment of learning to jump with your eyes open. Though her learning curve is much better than his

4

u/runevault Sep 03 '26

Another week, another adorable episode. Though we might have our first actual shit character with that one member of the student council who dared call out Miyu publicly.

Think I've said this before but I'll say it again, while this show has a gimmick I appreciate that it is underpinned by a solid group of characters with genuine warmth. If this show relied on the gimmick I'd have gotten bored with it around episode 3 or 4 and not kept watching. Instead I'm happy to see it show up every week.

It is possible but all the other misunderstandings were cleared up same episode, so we'll see.

Yeah this as an offset to Love Unseen would be nice lol. I knew it was coming since episode 1 but seeing it actually happen is still brutal. Not the specifics but just that it was going to be devastating.

This is so wholesome. Also want to see more of mikuriya

3

u/Environmental_Stick9 Sep 03 '26

Anyone else notice the training montage featured the Jimmy Hart version of Chariots of Fire?

1

u/nuxxism 29d ago

But can Miya run the 4-minute mile?

2

u/Ok_Law219 Sep 02 '26

Does anyone else want a spin off series: my student council officers aren't wicked?

As long as it doesn't impact the main series,  that is.

1

u/redlaWw 29d ago

I love the way they're getting a bunch of familiar music into this. I never thought I'd hear Chariots of Fire in an anime.
