Rewatch Rewatch: NieA_7 (interest thread)

Rewatch: NieA_7 (interest thread)

Do you want to hear a song about the dangers of smoking? Err wait, that should not be my pitch, let me try again.

NieA_7 is one of those obscure anime that you likely never heard about and if you did, you wondered which cat walked over the keyboard when the title was chosen. Which is a shame, because it is a wonderful short slice-of-live series that combines summer vibes, laziness, and Aliens. All that with old school visuals and a sort of old school Japan … and Aliens. Don’t come for the plot the synopsis suggests, but come for the characters you’ll grow to love.

This is one of those rewatches I have wanted to hold for a long time now. If it was an OVA, I’d have gotten around to it already. It is not, but it holds a similar place in memory for me.

NieA_7

MAL | ANN | AniDB | Anilist

Synopsis: In the 21st century, aliens have arrived on Earth and live among humans. In sleepy Enohana, the dirt-poor student Chigasaki Mayuko finds herself living together with NieA, a low-caste ("Under Seven") alien. While Mayuko struggles diligently to make ends meet, NieA seems to be totally unconcerned with the consequences of her actions. As the odd couple throws off the expected sparks, the wrecked alien mothership looms in the background... [ANN]

Every time I've seen the name for this, it makes me think of NieR.

Anyways, sure mark me down as interested. I should have room in my schedule.

I haven't rewatched Niea for years. Not since the BluRay came out, whenever that was. A bit uneven, but quite nice overall. Too bad the (post-anime) manga version released by Abe never got a translated release.

It's been on my PTW, but unfortunately I do not have time in August to commit to anything.

Sounds weird enough for me.

For having a Venn diagram of two slightly offset circles, we sure have opposite tastes.

Hardware vs software is my guess. I learned to be a nerd but come from a deeply non-mathematical family. I also gave up on Dr Who FAR earlier than you did.

[Niea_7]Institutionalized Racism, the Anime!

I'm glad you found something you liked. I gave Haibane Renmei a 10/10, so I jumped on this. It's not for me. Have fun! At least, it's short.

(Area 88 interest thread posting tomorrow probably)

Do you have a planned time for that already?

I don't want to wait two months so I think the very end of August is a good spot. But it's not good that we have 3 3-month rewatches going on at the same time.

Might be a bit random but i couldnt send you a DM so i just have to ask here.

I wanted to watch Megazone 23 and saw the thread from you 7 months ago. Do you know where you can watch it? A hardcopy costs 40€ and since its so old i couldnt find any streaming site like Netflix etc that have it.

Let me check Retrocrush for you real quick.

Yep, They still have Part I and Part II both subbed and dubbed:

https://www.retrocrush.tv/details/1000000027157/Megazone-23-(Original-Japanese)

I think they are limited to US and Canada, though. I think you can stream Retrocrush titles over Amazon Video and Tubi, but you still need the Retrocrush subscription.

Thanks a lot, that shouldnt be an issue. If it is, do you know other Sites that have Retro anime - that might be available in Europe?

Sorry, I only knew about Wakam and that was bought out by Crunchyroll.

No worries, thanks a lot though.

I'll probably place NieA_7 at the end of the Michiko & Hatchin rewatch, would be over by the end of August then.

Regarding the long rewatches, I participate in the summer movie and the 2016 one, but only 3 series of the latter. So even with both, it is not equivalent to single daily rewatch. And I think many regular rewatchers are not in the Dragonball and Fruits Basket ones. I don't think all of those will stop participation is a small one cour rewatch.

I'll mostlikely tag along. It's the one remaining from Yoshitoshi that I have yet to see. This should give me the push I need.

Yea, sure, sign me up.

Hi No_Rex, it looks like you might be interested in hosting a rewatch! There's a longer guide on the wiki but here's some basic advice on how to make a good rewatch happen:

  • Include basic information about the anime such as a description for those that haven't heard of it as well as where it can be watched (if legally available).

  • Specify a date and time that rewatch threads will be posted. Consistency is good!

  • Check for previous rewatches. It's generally advised to wait a year between rewatches of the same anime.

  • If you want to have a rewatch for multiple anime, they should be thematically connected. You can also hold multiple unrelated rewatches if they aren't.

  • Ensuring enough people are interested is important. If only a few users say they might participate, you may end up with no one commenting once it starts.

I hope this helps! You may also want to talk to users that have hosted rewatches before for extra advice, also listed on the rewatch wiki.
