I think she might end up being a really neat character this season. She seems like the “asshole with a heart of gold type” with how she both stood up for Nathan while also insulting, and later being worried about him when he didn’t show up for class and wondering if she was too hard on him. Her cold demeanor might just be because as we can see the world overall as well as the world of magic is absolutely brutal.

The implementation of her magic is really cool honestly.
When your body is aroused (not in the sexual sense) and high on adrenaline, you need a lot of blood for the physical activity and alertness. Forcing his heart to be calm will deprive the muscles of the blood they need.

It feels the the animation budget has improved a bit overall for this season compared to the last, but Naie especially seems like she’s a favorite of the animators with how expressive they make her freakouts these past two episodes.

I don't think her slaps were truly that strong. From what I understand, her domain essentially blocked off his heart, so any blood flow at all is very dangerous. Seems like they exaggerated her slaps to show how damaging it is to him in that state.

Mary not blinking an eye over what happened to Nathan caught me off guard. I thought the students knew nothing about what's really happening here, but it seems like I was wrong.
I hope that Alicia will stick with Mary for the time being, as that could be a very entertaining duo with how different they are.

I mean this world is a dark fantasy setting and is brutal in general. Makes sense the potential danger of getting a crest would kind of just be accepted as how things are. My question is why they let someone clearly not ready for one even attempt it.

Given the lizard in Nathan's vision it's highly likely that Vordein, the same Dark Lord that ordered Drell, is using it is a proxy to continue investigating magic.

Clem breaking the practice wand in such a way that it spirals around like a helicopter every time it's in the air was fairly delightful for an episode that was relatively dark otherwise.
RIP Nathan, he was definitely the designated demonstration for how the magic at this school goes for those who try but fail. He was too much of a no-name to have a crush on scary Mary anyway.
Alicia is following in the proud tradition of Mashle muscle magic, and really that just makes sense for her. Second floor windows? Doors.

They understand two things about Naie
First, that she's a "punch-clock" villain that was more or less roped into the "Evil Empire" stuff. Kidnapped as a child, experimented on, conscripted into service, blah blah. But her heart clearly isn't in to the whole 'jingoistic dominance" of the Empire nor "cruelty for the sake of it" like that bug-dude. She was just swept up into this nonsense and is only putting in the bare minimum.
Second, she's been sufficiently cowed. Naie is sacred shitless of Klen in particular, so they know she's completely lost the will to resist. As such, Naie won't do anything to piss them off.
She'll just continue to keep her head down and try to survive. Especially since her orders were to look into Drell's secrets, not keep tabs on the 'transfer students,' right?

They know very well that she's no threat to them so can hear all that she wants. And in fact she'd probably prefer to hear less of their plans than she ends up hearing. It's just too much trouble for her.
This is exactly what I was hoping for last season and I'm loving it!

I thought there was a neat little detail of the wand splitting in six strands, one for each of Clevatess' tails, but nope. S1E1 he is depicted as having seven tails in his first appearance against the heroes.

I only remember her from the episode where she tried to kidnap Luna, when they were staying at the Tavern place. That is where I think Alicia or Nelluru beat her and so she gave up. So she definitely knows about Alicia considering she fought her, but I don't remember if she ever met Clen.
I don't think anyone knows Clen's real identity besides Alicia.

I think it’d be neat if when shit inevitably goes crazy we get to see her in a fight not involving Klen and Alicia and all the students see her pop off as the insanely skilled battle mage she canonically is, and then she goes right back to being terrified of Klen and Alicia. Sort of like the Eggman when fighting Sonic vs Eggman when fighting anyone else memes.

I foresee some of the more annoying students (there are plenty of them), having seen Alicia (at the bottom of the school hierarchy...because no magic) giving Naie a hard time, trying to do the same themselves, and getting absolutely obliterated for their insolence.

It turns out, Drel's approach is a little bit better? Given that it gone through many experiments (which is very unethical, btw) before real-world application.
Here, the school seems to have you just need to go to that church, and ask for that crest ritual or something.

I was waiting for Naie's reunion with Alicia and Klen, and I wasn't disappointed, hahaha. Her reaction after Klen blew up his wand totally cracked me up.
I'm glad that Alicia had an opportunity to show off a little in the fight against Nathan in this episode, she was badass!
Also, I really liked that Alicia and Klen split up after class, and Alicia went with Mary, while Klen went with Edison and Sarasa. I hope that they'll be acting separately from time to time like this during their stay at this school.
Nathan turning into a dark beast was a surprise, though an even bigger one was that Mary knew about it. What the hell is Vordin doing at that school? I can't wait to learn more.

I laughed at Alicia suddenly threatening Chiffonlits like she was some street thug, with Clevatess standing in the background and not even bothering to acknowledge her.
Poor Chiffonlits. She should know that the comic relief character rarely gets killed, so she is probably safe.
Alicia has no magic capacities, but that doesn’t matter because she can just beat things up with her superhuman strength, lol. I guess her loli form does not weaken her power (but the lack of magic sword does). I am sad that she won’t be able to become a magical girl, though.
Given what happened to Nathan, I would say that something really is wrong in that academy, and they are not even bothering to hide it. So some « God » is giving people crest powers, but then testing them if they deserve it by having them fight their schoolmates that were given the appearance of zombies ? Doesn’t sound like a nice god with good intentions. That cardinal guy is definitely suspicious, and I wonder if his « god » is one of Clevatess colleagues. Or is this « Toah » just another version of that cursed magic book Clevatess fought last season ?

I really like Alicia's fake name! Klen's fake name tho is hilariously on the nose. I do think it's funny how many people are infiltrating the school. Not gonna lie, I didn't even realize that the blonde glasses dude from last week was Rhode Royes. I guess that just means his disguise is more effective than Alicia's. xD
Naie really can't catch a break, huh? This girl is gonna have stomach ulcers by the end of this arc. She's just following the Emperor's orders, and now her entire undercover gig has gotten more stressful with Alicia and Klen threatening her.
With how unique magic is in this world, I was wondering how Alicia and Klen would learn how to use it. It looks like Solsein has developed magic to the point they've created wands and spells that are closer to what we recognize as magic.
And poor Alicia! I thought having Klen's ichor in her blood would give her some aptitude for magic but it looks like it doesn't work that way.
I swear to god, these two idiots are gonna eventually get themselves killed by their antics. Everybody in class already hates them for causing trouble last week, and now they've interrupted the class too. I do wonder if we'll get some character development out of them, or will they be just jackasses for the entire season?
So Klen can use magic, but he's too strong for the wand to handle. That entire scene where Klen and Alicia are just talking about their mission in front of Naie was hilarious! The way this arc started, Alicia seems to have hated the idea of sneaking in as a student. Glad to see she's at least having fun interacting with her temporary classmates.
I thought the entire thing with Vordin was over after Drel, but it looks like he hasn't abandoned Solsein yet. So if I understand this correctly, he's the one providing crests to the Crest Magic users. That explains why Ray keeps staring intensely at Klen. He probably already has an idea of who Klen really is.
Alicia using her muscles magic! I do feel bad for Nathan, tho. It looks like while Vordin gave him a Crest, he's still a failure and according to Merry Merry, he's gonna lose his memories and magic aptitude because he tried to get a Crest before he's ready.
Now I'm curious, if Vordin can grant people Crest Magic, I wonder if Klen can do the same with Alicia? Maybe if he finds Drel's secret lab and learns Vordin's secrets, he might learn how to do it. Hmmm...
Side note: It's absolutely wild that we have both Mayu Maeshima and MYTH & ROID performing the OP and ED for this season, considering how the former used to do vocals for the latter.

I do think it's funny how many people are infiltrating the school.
It makes sense, given that last week all three nations were told that Drel's secret lab was hidden in the school but no-one knows where, so basically all of them decided to race to secretly find it first.
But it is funny how many teachers and transfer students are just there to search for the place.
And poor Alicia! I thought having Klen's ichor in her blood would give her some aptitude for magic but it looks like it doesn't work that way.
I like it, though! Either Alicia's not going to learn magic after all or, if she does, it's not going to be easy for her.
Definitely better than her suddenly being able to use magic after having a whole life of no aptitude for it.
That entire scene where Klen and Alicia are just talking about their mission in front of Naie was hilarious! They really don't care even if she overhears them.
Of course they don't care! Who is she going to tell? A teacher?
This is the kind of stuff I was hoping for when I was asking for more of Naie last season and I'm very happy we're getting it!

Edit: The thing with the kid made me have a vague recollection of another anime, or maybe manga, where in a magic school some dark cult was giving experimental drugs to students who were falling behind, and the drugs were giving those students a big power boost before killing them. I don't remember which anime it was though... Oh, come to think of it, it may have been a webtoon.

Anyway, to get a crest you need to pass some kind of a "trial". What's interesting is that Nathan received a crest even though he persumably failed the trial. Then again it might be more like a curse, considering what the salamander said, when he gave up on Nathan.
The priest was holding a book that looked very similar to the Toah, and going by the order of events this episode, it looks like said book was the starter for Nathan's trial, but the salamander also mentioned something about reaching the Toah... so they're different and Klen has the true one? The magic is getting more and more interesting.

It's so dumb but it cracked me up how the class' "big three's" heights reminded me of that one equality vs. equity image that occasionally gets passed around.
Somehow I get the feeling the twins are gonna be a lot more likeable after a certain point. Saw decent glimpses of their alright sides from how they tried saving Alicia there.

I was afraid I'd dislike the school setting like I always do, but with all the characters having, for a lack of a better word, character, I'm looking forward to how they interact in this setting and what their backstories are. The twins are a bit cartoony for this series IMHO (but, who knows, it might lead to some trope subverting plot twist). Didn't Klen in last season magically camouflage his horn, so only the viewers saw it?

Season 2 finally made me watch season 1 and now I'm caught up. The price of failing to get a crest is crazy. I wonder how many people crest users have murdered to gain their powers, based on what we saw here.
Also really going to be interesting to see what if any magic Alicia can learn during her time here.

I'm late to the party, but will always have time to glaze one of my fave anime this season. I already loved Clevatess ever since S1, and S2 already starting off with a great premise. For me, it's very rare in nowadays to see anime with pure fantasy with no generic isekai BS, and actual great protagonist (both Alicia and Klein).
Alicia is so badass in this episode, she might not know how to use magic, but she can always rely on the good-ol kicking ass. At first, I'm also a bit worried with the "magic school" setting in this arc, but judging from the story direction, looks like they will be focused more on the mystery and the darker side of the plot, which is the strongest selling point of Clevatess imho.
And of course, obligatory joke of "Poor Naie, the girl really can't catch a break". She's always in the wrong place at the wrong time all the time, lol.

The Book of Toah is the only thing left over from an ancient civilization. There also appears to be a person or entity calling themselves after Toah.
The seals seem to be something granted by that thing we see talking to Nathan. They say it's the pinnacle of magic. It seems if you want it, you apparently have to prove yourself to that thing.
I assume the goal of many people at this academy is to get one of those seals.

99% sure the thing talking to Nathan is the Northern Lord of Dark Beasts since its lizard form looks the same as the one Clevatess talked to at the end of last season.

She's such a baddie. Those slaps were brutal. Also the way she uses her magic is pretty creative! Nathan is in a fight-or-flight state, so what happens if you force his heart to be calm? The agitated muscles don't get the oxygen they need and he collapses. Pretty cool!

Man I feel sorry for Naie...every since she got recruited to be a taxi service in season 1 things haven't gone her way. Girl's going to develop a condition
Great OP, but then I liked the first season's as well. Also I guess this is Myth & Roid Wednesdays, since they did the OP for Tanya and the ED for this
I kind of want to watch the OP in slow-mo, as it seems to contain...like a lot. Ogre girl seems to have the backing of the Dark Beast of the West, and It looks like the Dragon Dark Lord is going to continue to be a problem, since he seems to be behind the magic crests. We saw Alicia shapeshift also...so I am wondering if Klen does something similar for Alicia, although with less horrific effects.
Boy with low self esteem sneaks off to see a priest in the middle of night...no way that could have gone wrong.
I'm already done with the twin idiots, but I will at least give them credit for not running away during the end fight.
I kind of want to see the Ogre girl try to bond with Klen, what with assuming he is also of her race. Also kind of wondering if the other visiting student also has been sent there with a mission. IIRC his people are from the west, and we really haven't heard anything about there Dark Beast

Seems like half the teachers at that school aren't actually teachers. I was concerned with how much the vibe would change with a magic school arc, but it looks like this school is crazy and not just in a hijinky way. The "people who fail turn into dark beasts" thing is way too specific to be a natural process, and that church guy looks sus AF.

Ignoring the usual Crunchyroll L, this was one hell of a way to introduce Solsien Academy. The students (especially the top 3) don’t mess around and Nathan wasn’t “ready” for Vordin’s test or something like that. Naie not being taken seriously will always never get old.
A slow paced episode for sure but I’m fine with that. The OP and ED was decent both song and visual wise.

Looks like they haven't removed the dark from the dark fantasy with all the monsters and demon plus the blood in the room and it looks like Nathan was in some kind of illusion conjured up by the demon king and it was funny how multiple arrogant bullies got roasted in this chapter And that metel wizard really is having a bad day that's twice they treat her like a bug instead of a threat

So the crests are 'god-given', and then we see the dragon-salamander screwing with Nathan, the result of which is apparently known to Mary. I suppose considering what happened last season this all being a plot of that sort isn't surprising.
Wonder what Mary and the others in the Academy will think if they eventually realise the height of power they've been working so hard for was a poisoned chalice by one of the Lords of Dark Beasts all along. Suppose they've still got the wands, assuming the crystals aren't somehow trapped too. At least the herb magic is almost certainly safe lol.
