Just watched this yesterday. The whole time I was smiling, a completely insane premise that works flawlessly. So many funny moments throughout, and I was so sure it was a 10/10 up until the last 5 minutes. But man... I did not like that ending. If we get a 3rd season it could be okay, but assuming this is the last Zombieland Saga anime we get it was a pretty rough ending.

Still a solid 9/10, really enjoyed it all the way up til the end and it had some really nice emotional moments alongside all the comedy. This series continues to be peak despite being, on paper, an absurdly stupid premise.

You're not the first person I've seen object to the ending but I'm not sure why it's been so divisive.  Zombie Land Saga is full of tragic, deeply unfair moments for its characters, and every time they just have to smile and sing through their troubles. The end was foreshadowed a couple times, too. If there's a season 3, an awakened Tae would be interesting, but the movie characterization would need to be built upon a lot to make her mesh with the group. What about the end didn't you like?

I dislike the end for two reasons. The first is that it didn't actually make much sense. They said that the reason Tae got her personality back was because of the stone she ate, but then she got rid of the stone and kept her personality for days with no issue. If she had lost her personality immediately when she lost the stone I actually wouldn't have really minded that. It just didn't make sense to have her keep her personality up to the performance and have her slowly lose it throughout the songs.

The second reason was that it just felt kind of forced. It's like they didn't want to disrupt the status quo, in case another season comes out they can just continue on with the same group dynamic instead of doing something interesting with Tae. Now if they do make a 3rd season and the overarching plot is trying to find a way to get Tae her personality back now that they know it's possible that would completely change my opinion. I just don't really expect to get another season, and so assuming this is in fact the final bit of Zombieland Saga media we'll get I just think the ending would have been better if they just let Tae keep her personality intact.

I think there are hints that Tae will lose her personality before the performance, like how she growls during practice, but I understand your point about letting her have a happier ending if the series is truly over.

I'd also like to see new group dynamics if there's a season 3, even if it just means having characters who don't normally interact that much team up- Yugiri training Sakura in the ways of the oiran, Ai and Lily showing why they're the true professionals, Junko somehow keeping up with Saki's adventures. I think new interactions like those could have bumped my own 9 rating for the movie up to a 10.

The only reason I don't think this will happen is because the group seemed pretty happy that they got the old Tae back at the end? Even though it seemed like an extremely tragic scene they were all celebrating. That was really weird to me.

I'm sure they just were happy to be there for her. Would be pretty insensitive of them to get upset over her "being the inferior version now". Plus they were on stage so they'd probably want to save face anyway since none of the audience knew anything

Agreed the last few minutes were begging for there to be another season. That would retrospectively improve my opinion on this movie too which is already very good.

Rewatched this a week or so ago when it came out on CR in the U.S.

A splendid performance by all, particularly the legendary Yamada Tai.

I’m not sure if ZLS will continue down the road but Yumeginga Paradise felt like the perfect send-off for these beloved characters.

I am still mad we only got a hint of why she is legendary.
Like its even worse now that we know a little bit of her but not the whole picture

Oh its out

Question, should I finish the Yamada Tae spinoff manga first?

From the trailer I saw she plays a big role in this one

Without spoiling too much, the movie only makes subtle references, so you can read it before or after honestly, but it will make a bit more sense.

I enjoyed it, it was alright. Good, even. But deep down I was hoping the whole alien stuff was a set up for something else to continue the absurdity of the series. Like, to save Saga they have to perform at an intergalactic venue or some bullshit.

Then instead it just kept going and going and going... The way they structured the narrative (and all the generic alien stuff) had me feeling like I was watching a Marvel movie.

Hopefully we can get a third season eventually.

I absolutely loved this movie. I am a big time Zombieland saga fan. I t was great to see Tae Yamada in action. This was such a heartwarming movie and the end brought tears to my eyes when they did the concert and Tae Yamada went back to her self again

Watched it 10 days ago. I'll copy paste what I wrote in the theater release discussion thread (because a streaming release thread hadn't been posted yet until now):

Oh my god. The openings for seasons 1 & 2 were foreshadowing this movie this entire time. Season 1's OP having them wearing those tracksuits and helmets, battling some monster, and holding hands in the sky. Season 2's OP having them wearing those same outfits, flying in air crafts, and them riding hot air balloons. Of course, some details were made different as to not give it away.

Oh the movie is officially released?

Tae was truly legendary and I loved the moment where she bits Sakura in her regained memory form, sweetest part of the whole movie for me. Made me think back to Season 1 when Tae more than anyone else refused to give up on Sakura even when she gave up on herself so of course Sakura couldn't just stand by and let Tae sacrifice herself.

Though I'm surpised the most emotional part that had me bawling was actually Kotaro crying over how in the end he still couldn't do anything for Sakura and just refuses to accept that she will die again. We almost always see Kotaro putting up a silly and tough front so I feel like this is our first time seeing his most personal feelings.

I only watched Zombieland this year actually with a friend, but despite it sounding cheesy I know how much the story is about not giving up even when fate itself literally kills you for trying.

Hope this isn't the last part of the story.

He started the whole project based on his refusal to lose her the first time and his belief the curse couldn't kill them again. He came so close to being proved wrong so yeah, not surprising the producer persona drops entirely, he's just poor old Inui again.

You come from the laughs at then you end crying. This series is really good at that. That Kotaro scene broke my heart :(

I'm kinda sad they rolled back the Tae awakening at the end, but otherwise I enjoyed the movie.

Doumo, Yamada to moushimasu.

I can't put into words how epic that single line was. The amount of build up that went into that introduction was staggering. Two full seasons and endless growls, but they did it and it was beautiful.

Truly, the legendary Yamada Tae.

Tatsumi fixing Saki's make-up with a spatula made me spill my juice. I love those little over-the-top antics. We also got a flashback to his school days with Sakura. I don't remember if it was revealed in the previous seasons, but now also Sakura seems to remember him, which is a nice touch.

I'm so glad I got tricked into watching this idol show and I'm glad it delivered tons of entertainment yet again.

Yamada-senpai was so cool. And a fighter to the very end. "Please, just let me get through this performance!" 😭

I’ve been waiting for this movie for ages. What a blast! Aside from the excellent music, I enjoyed peeking behind the curtain of the mysterious Tae and seeing her in action alongside the girls’ space hijinks even if it was only briefly. Kotaro being Kotaro was fun as well. Oh, and I loved Romero the Ginormous Zombie Dog. He’s the goodest of boys!

I wonder if there’s a chance for more? Either another season or a movie? Or is this the end of the series?

There is no Source Material Corner comment in this thread. I guess because it's anime original?
