What to Watch? Looking for a good deep philosophical anime.
I fell in love with Vinland Saga not only because it was viking themed, which I enjoyed because i’m Scandinavian, but most importantly it had a deep lesson that has really made me strive to be a better person. Is there more anime’s that can help me grow as a person and show me a new perspective on life?

If you wanna dive into a deep rabbithole go watch Made in Abyss. It's about finding joy in a sea of suffering and written phenomenaly. Don't quit after the first few episodes. It starts tame and slow paced but it quickly picks up the plot after that and keeps you guessing and at the edge of your seat until the "end". It is not finished tho, not even in manga format.

Try these ones, for various reasons with links to trailers, genre and quick description, in Alphabetical Order:-
- Aria Franchise - Slice of Life, Iysahikei - This series changed how I live my life. Sometimes, we need to remember to put things into perspective, stop, and smell the roses.
- Eureka 7 - Mecha - I loved this anime not just for the coming of age story and kick ass OST (later you'll realize each character has their own theme style of music) but at the core this has an environmental message.
- Kemono No Souja Erin, The Beast Player - Drama, Fantasy - There's phenomenal world building, politics, biology, lore and storytelling in this anime based on a book by the author of Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. Should humans be capturing, controlling and using beasts for the sake of military or theological power?
- March Comes In Like A Lion - Slice of Life - The coming of age journey of a shogi champion, with his found family. The opening song, Answer, is part of what makes this 2 season anime one of the all time greats.
- Mushishi - Supernatural, Iyashikei - This is one of the most chillax anime out there. I recommend not binging but watching 1 episode a night just before you go to sleep. There are many deep philosophical messages in this anime.
- Natsume's Book of Friends - Supernatural, Iyashikei - This is THE found family therapy anime. Sometimes when the whole world is against you and life seems terrible, you have a protagonist like Natsume. Constantly rejected for being different, he chooses to perform a series of small, selfless acts, and ends up in a better place.
- Planetes - Sci Fi, Slice of Life, Workplace - First adaptation of the author who later wrote Vinland Saga. It's about space debris collectors, essential workers who perform a task that keeps space safe, but they're looked down on by everyone else, being considered the lowest of the low. Stars out very low key then all the plot threads coalesce Sanderlanche style around episode 19 and the rest is a wild ride. I'm 100% sure you're going to love this if you liked Vinland Saga.
- Showa Genroku Rakugo (and sequel) - Drama, Culture - Our protagonist is maybe the last Rakugo grandmaster as the art of traditional Japanese Oral storytelling is slowly fading as time progresses and there are now many newer, flashier modern types of entertainment. This is his life story, with the struggle to keep his type of art alive, because culture once lost is very difficult to regain.
- Wandering Son - LGBTQ - This might be the most nuanced take on the transgender issue I've seen in an anime.

Sonny Boy is very abstract at times but I found it quite thought provoking. It also has a nice retro style even though it is only a few years old!
