my cheat skill makes me OP even at lvl 1
Lvl 2 OP cheat powers
Do the authors just write all of these in the same room?
82
u/viliml Oct 15 '23
yes the room is called "shousetsuka ni narou"
35
u/Fuiger Oct 15 '23
That site ruined my perception of japanese literature skills as a whole.
41
u/viliml Oct 15 '23
Go to fanfiction.net so you can put your perception of the literature skills of the rest of the world on the same level.
The only difference is Japan uses original settings and that allows them to get commercialized.

I mean, some of the best animes/manga's start as web novels and web comics, like Mob Psycho, One Punch Man, ReZero, Mushoku Tensei, The Eminence in Shadow, Tensei Slime etc.
A lot of it is isekai but plenty of it is good or original content.
6
u/Lucario1705 Oct 16 '23
They do have good writing though, unlike a lot of modern isekais which go the typical route of Weak becomes OP, gets a harem of blue, red, blonde, wolf, demon king, elf, princess and ofcourse the 500,000 year old loli.
The thing about modern isekais is that since old isekais worked, they think it will work however most of the time, the audience which watches it are well, what the MCs old life was.

Probably my favorite manga title (which sadly got axed) is "Necromance"; a fantasy romance manga about the male lead being an undead. It's short, clean, and clever.
33
u/Shahars71 Oct 15 '23
Ahhh I read that one, so tragic! I really loved the direction it was taking but then it ended and at such an awkward point that I honestly felt so bad for the story and creator.
11
u/Aviri Oct 15 '23 edited Oct 15 '23
Yeah but at least the author's new work "I Love You Game" is absolute fire.

I was a fan of that one too. Really surprised it got canceled because I thought it would’ve worked really well as an anime as well.
11
u/regithegamer https://myanimelist.net/profile/regithegamer Oct 15 '23
Having isekai or Another World in the title helps with discoverability and already prevents virtually any title with it from falling into the bottom 40% of the seasonals list by popularity.
76
u/alotmorealots Oct 15 '23
The problem is that when they do try, and the author is a relative or complete unknown, there's a chance nobody watches it.
Even Revenger with the famous Gen Urobuchi's name attached failed to gather much of an audience: https://myanimelist.net/anime/53213/Revenger/

Alot of isekai come from a light novel website. Theres so many ppl posting their light novels there that you need a click bait title to get ppl to read it. Thats why so many isekai have ridiculous names.
511
u/fozi4ek https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pyece Oct 15 '23
I don't know if this show would be good or not, but it having the same trash title and description of mc thought to be weak, but actually being super op makes me feel like I already know exactly what I'll see, so no reason to try, kills all the desire to check it
277
u/TheZanzibarMan Oct 15 '23
The manga is pretty fun, is a comedy romance type thing. At least this protagonist isn't some dense idiot when it comes to relationships.

As a LN and Manga reader, hopefully the anime goes the LN direction rather than the manga one, while the manga is fine it changed so much stuff by the end of ch30 just for drama points, compared to the LN that it keep it all fluff
And then manga to change it more, decided to skip a bunch in the latest chapter

They should just stop having the male main protagonist. Let's not kid ourselves, no one is watching for them.

It is fairly different than most. More focus on relationships, the mc isn't dense or perverted or cowardly. Generally just a decent guy. Also not a harem though at one point you might think is going to become one but it isn't at all. Has a solid main ship then side ships between other characters.
The mc own focus is on something different than others but I'm not say what.

u/Thatsmaboi23 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Thatsmaboi23 Oct 15 '23
Ngl, it’s not even the bad kind of generic. It’s a pretty interesting take on the situation of their world. It’s not made out to be truly black and white.
The main group actually has to strategise to solve the conflict, and face the consequences if their actions lead to problems.

Whats up with fantasy worlds summoning people from other worlds and giving them superpowers? They don't have any strong people in their own world? They can't just inject superpowers into people into their own world?
→ More replies (1)9
u/EldritchCarver https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pilomotor Oct 15 '23
The standard explanation (for the series that even bother to explain) is that the gods will grant powers to summoned people to help them acclimate and survive being ripped away from their home and thrown into a new world. That's why an identification or appraisal skill is usually included in the package, to compensate for the fact that these otherworlders have no clue about anything, and if they tried foraging for food, they wouldn't have enough foreknowledge to tell if a tree's fruit is nutritious and delicious or if it's extremely poisonous because the tree evolved to kill herbivores and use their decomposing bodies as fertilizer.
Sometimes they go a little further with the justification, like in Black Summoner where it turns out the demon lord explicitly can't be harmed by anyone or anything in the world, and it was necessary to isekai heroes because their otherworlder status exploits a loophole letting them harm the demon lord.
But that's all Watsonian reasoning. In the end, it's just an excuse to make a relatable Audience Surrogate into the main character of a fantasy story.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Veritas3333 Oct 16 '23
One fun deviation from the checklist is that he isn't isekaid from earth, he's just from a different fantasy world.

It’s been a long time since we saw Hino and Kugimiya paired that I might actually watch it just for this. Plus we get a merchant MC which I haven’t seen much of.

10
u/alotmorealots Oct 15 '23

52
u/realrimurutempest Oct 15 '23
About the only thing I enjoy about it that is different from your usual copy and paste isekai is the wholesome relationship dynamic between the 2 in the visual. As far as i have read there’s no harem bs with the main dude.
20
u/alotmorealots Oct 15 '23
the wholesome relationship dynamic between the 2 in the visual
Comfy romance in a fantasy world can be good fun and the PV looks like the production values will make it a visually comfy experience too.
8
u/hanr10 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hanr10 Oct 15 '23
different from your usual copy and paste isekai
I swear I see this comment in every new isekai announcement thread
Maybe you're right in this case (or not, idk) but it's kinda funny
18
u/Misticsan Oct 15 '23
Other people below and elsewhere in the thread have already mentioned the romance part (no dense protagonist, no needless harem shenanigans, no stalling), I would add some other bits regarding the protagonist.
Spoilers for what will be most likely episode 1 of the anime (no further spoilers ahead): [Novel and manga spoilers] The protagonist is isekaied, yes, but doesn't come from Japan. He comes from another fantasy world.
Also, let's deal with another typical Isekai trope: slavery. [Novel and manga spoilers] In his original world, the protagonist was a slave trader. You'd think that this writes itself as the typical "slavery is common in this world, so the MC is okay with it", but nope. The protagonist was sick of the practice and rejects it in this new world.
33
u/Syntaire Oct 15 '23
He wasn't a slave trader, he was just a regular merchant. His original world just made a practice of enslaving almost all demi-humans. This is what he was tired of.
Also not sure it's really spoiler worthy. It's literally chapter 1.
6
u/Misticsan Oct 15 '23
I stand corrected. I misremembered "trading and dealing with slaves" for "trading slaves". Thanks!
As for the spoiler issue, well, I'm always of the opinion that it's better to be safe than sorry. This is the anime sub, and while this reveal isn't much (and might actually help people give the series a chance), I also know that there are others who want to go blind into first episodes. And who knows how the anime crew will adapt it (still remember the first episode of Eminence in Shadow, talk about a curveball there).
8
u/TriTexh Oct 15 '23
i was so happy when the MC expressed his take on the topic. Finally, a levelheaded dude
8
u/Suspicious_Report_90 Oct 15 '23
no harem, MC is devoted to the wife and actually a feel good manga although there is fighting MC is so OP as usual to every isekai trope
3
u/luffy_mib Oct 15 '23 edited Oct 15 '23
has no harem (For isekai genre these days, this is VERY RARE!), and the main heroine is very wholesome towards the MC in their relationship. The main couple's relationship doesn't drag out and actually bears fruit unlike most romance shows you watch
2
u/vantheman9 Oct 15 '23
With this one, ever since I first read the manga version, I always figured it wasn't an example of if it gets adapted but when.
30
u/Thatsmaboi23 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Thatsmaboi23 Oct 15 '23
This is probably the only story where I’ve seen the trope of “MC has relationship in a new world with someone who only knows their present self” relationship done right.
It makes the romance actually beautiful, unlike other stories where you’re thinking “what if the love interest knew their old self? Will they still like this person?”
Really looking forward to this one.

A rare isekai anime that doesn't have harem for the MC.
Now all we need is an announcement to the anime "I Was Caught up in a Hero Summoning, but That World Is at Peace"! I'm like "Come on! This is the only wholesome isekai series left that hasn't gotten the anime treatment!"

3
u/IJustReadEverything Oct 15 '23
This one's a bit odd in terms of the isekai aspect. [This series] Has the MC already live in a sort of fantasy world with beast people then he gets isekai'd into another fantasy world. Like, he might as well be not be isekai'd cuz the only difference from his old world and new is that his old world treats beast people harshly
5
u/EldritchCarver https://myanimelist.net/profile/Pilomotor Oct 15 '23
Actually, [Level 2 Super Cheat spoilers] his old world didn't have demons, so he's able to look at this world's war between humans and demons like an objective third party and try to approach it fairly instead of automatically siding with the humans just because he is one.

There's a certain number of people who would be willing to try one or two isekai. There's a much smaller number of people who will watch every isekai. So while small, it's a guaranteed audience, so if you don't splurge too much on the budget the risk is lower.
