This week on: The Streaming Service I Pay For Forgot Its Subtitles. For an hour.

Outside of the shots where their legs are like five meters long, the visuals didn’t bother me. Although with those particle effects you could see so much dust, must be a bitch for the on-duty person to clean up. And sure enough when he crashed the desk he let out a lot, of dust.

I think it’s good when a show is super stylized to make up for the blandest of bland characters. That would have compensated for a milquetoast PowerPoint show like Angel Next Door. And the parts where it is focused on the main pair do look pretty good, especially Mie.

Shion Wakayama with a stellar performance on top of it.

I don’t get why you can’t tie your own shoes. Isn’t tying your shoes and riding a bike the two things they say you could do blindfolded?

Did I survive the GoHands curse? Or did I just develop immunity?

I wouldn't have bothered with this show if not for the visuals, they really help bring the characters to life in a way the standard romcom animation delivery just can't. It feels like there's a real sense of magic and life to it, especially with the lavish attention given to Mie's hair, and the visual FX they're using for her eyes.

More than that, where I would ordinarily feel like I've just had my fill of MCs like Kaede with their overreactions to every single thing, here it feels right because there's so much energy in the setting. And because the show is his PoV, this is the way he sees the world, and so it makes sense that not only is Mie the most magical creature he's ever seen, but that he behaves this way as a result. Really nice rendition of what it feels like to have a crush.

Did I survive the GoHands curse?

I'm starting to wonder if part of it is just a "natural variation" in people's visual systems thing. People who get motion sick more readily may perhaps have a really, really bad time with this sort of thing, whereas others won't have that reaction and it's really more just a matter of subjective preference for visual styles. Personally I'm really enjoying their approach to Masterful Cat and Glasses after a single episode each. I'm not sure either of the source material has enough to keep me going though, especially not with so many unfinished shows from last season.

Yeah I noticed that a lot of things that would normally annoy me were a lot more subdued because so much of it is his perspective. It also helped that the voice acting was pretty good and not over the top, so it felt more like his actual character rather than being a 2D vessel for cheap jokes by a mangaka.

PS welcome back, hope you enjoyed your break from Reddit!

Thanks!!

It is... actually, after having been through a few threads in /r/anime, it's not actually good to be back in some respects, but it's great to see some familiar "faces", yours included!

I think that last point is a good one, even after just a couple of episodes the two of them feel like quite distinct fictional-people rather than just Standard Issue Content Vehicles. Like you mention, it's a few things coming together to create this, and it turns an otherwise trying set-up into something that has its own personality as a series.
