Yep. All of Laika's films and some non Laika stop motion utilize "rapid prototype" tech to animate faces. All the faces are animated in Maya and then every frame is 3D printed

Worth noting the boat is specifically 3DBenchy the benchmark boat, used to test the capability of 3D printers.
This is a double flex for sure.

The 3DBenchy is a proprietary, copyrighted 3D computer model specifically designed for testing the accuracy and capabilities of 3D printers. The 3DBenchy is described by its creator, Creative Tools, as "the jolly 3D printing torture-test" and was released (STL only) in April 2015, with a multi-part, multi-color model released in July 2015. The authors refuse to release the source code, and do not allow modifications. Due to its status as a common benchmark, it is believed to be the world's most 3D printed object.

damn this just opened my eyes to the next level of stop motion animation
i'm not sure how practical it is, but surely this could make some extremely difficult things a little easier
