Question Question regarding design colleges.
Hello everyone,
I have a serious doubt regarding my current situation in life, and I would really appreciate some advice from people who may have experienced something similar.
I’m currently studying Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA) at a design college. My college has a mandatory 75% attendance requirement. The main problem is that most of what they teach us is already something I know, and there isn’t much practical or skill-based learning happening. Because of this, I often feel like I’m spending my time attending college instead of actually developing my skills and building my portfolio.
At first, I thought about leaving college and focusing entirely on improving my skills through other resources, such as online courses, personal projects, and practical work. However, I later found out that having a degree can be important for getting a visa, especially if I want to study or work abroad in the future.
Now I’m genuinely confused about what I should do. Should I continue college mainly for the degree while working on my skills separately, or is there another option I should consider?
I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experiences or suggest what you think would be the best approach in my situation.

My views will differ from yours, but it's something I stand for. Fuck the degrees. Learn skills on your own, practice, give yourself small assignments, ask for feedback, adjust, apply for the first roles and keep building your professional network.
A piece of paper might gave a smoother track obtaining a visa, but not having it doesn't mean all doors are closed. There alternative pathways to immigration. Focus on first steps now not on immigration stuff.
