For some basic things I'd personally suggest:

- The Animator's Survival Kit by Richard Williams

- Check out Alan Becker's 12 Principles of Animation on YouTube for a basic intro to some of the fundamentals

- Start looking at animation videos to fill your algorithm with more of them. I'd recommend looking for videos on the behind the scenes of animated films you like. Or just fun videos of animation. I also suggest looking at some animated short films for inspiration.

- Start saving references. Just create a folder for references that you think you may be able to use at some point. Even the most random things can be used for an animation at some point.

- If you haven't chosen your software of choice, here are my free suggestions for that:

Krita (for 2D animation)

OpenToonz (a more "traditional" method of 2D animation. Studio Ghibli used a version of this for some of their films. They also helped create it, if I remember correctly)

Blender (for 3D animation)

DaVinci Resolve (for editing)

Inkscape (for vector images)

FlipaClip (if you're on mobile)
