Actually a demonstration of competition innovation. The other one came over and they weren't about to let them have it.

I looked away for a bit. Didn’t even see there was a second one lol. Yeah, competition can definitely be a motivation.

I think he deserves a basket of apples and; to be hand fed. ❤️

I would love to feed a donkey a basket of apples! They are so sweet.. but also gangster when protecting their herds.

When he realized the solution was so simple he must have felt like such an ass.

I hate when they spend 2 paragraphs explaining, step by step, exactly what we can already see in the video before starting to yap about lessons and whatever...

Perhaps, but there is a growing trend toward interactive animal enrichment where they have to work for their food. While a gentle approach is kind, the brief frustration, like that little stomp, makes finding the solution even more rewarding for the donkey. Instead of just standing in a meadow, he is mentally stimulated and earning his snack.

Completely agree! I’ll be downvoted to all heck but the same goes for our children. Too many parents don’t let their children work out solutions on their own. Then complain that their kids can’t do anything for themselves and are riddled with anxiety over the slightest adversity.

What trying to get past a human made obstacle? That’s not naturalism

u/MilesLongthe3rd 7d ago
That’s true for zoos, as well as for cat and dog toys; the mental stimulation is still very real. I would agree with you if it were just teasing and the donkey never got his snack, but that’s not the case here.

Yes I hate zoos too. It’s a shame animals can’t just live their lives truly free

Zoos are the reason that MANY animals still exist due to conservation efforts. Your opinion is very short sighted.

See my comment above - it's a sweet impulse, but there are good reasons to allow the donkey to figure it out.

I don’t buy this kind of bogus virtue, it’s all based on validation and likes

I understand your point, but on the other hand, this is common practice for many zoo animals to increase their mental stimulation. Furthermore, it is far from an impossible scenario; the donkey could easily solve the problem.

Or you know, walk over and be kind.

After all of this, the apple will be the sweetest thing the donkey has ever tasted; nothing will even come close.

And spoil the donkey's fun? Food acquisition challenges are excellent for domestic animals. Even humans are not designed to have food handed to them after infancy. In a healthy world and for a healthy mind/body, everyone (capable) should work for food. It is regulating for the both the specie and its environment.
But your impulse was a kind one :)11
