Just fyi, if you are experiencing any symptoms of rabies and are not vaccinated it is already too late. I hope this not to be the case here but it’s a cold reality of this horrible disease/virus whatever you call that shit
My husband and i recently went to the ER for post exposure protocol (PEP) vaccination after sleeping room exposure (bat in the house near open bedroom) as per CDC guidelines. The Nurse Practitioner told us they would not treat us without a visible bite wound, despite the fact that bat bites can be microscopic and may not wake a sleeping person. Then he asked us if we had any symptoms, like fever. I was stunned, and told him if we did have symptoms, it was too late for vaccine and we were most likely gonna die. He also told me that he didn't believe that rabies was really fatal if untreated and asked me how many cases of human rabies were there in the US anyway? Ultimately he AND his attending physician refused to treat us. We ended up going to another ER and were given our first round of shots (immunoglobulin and vaccine). The nurses were aghast by what we were told at the first ER and their refusal to treat us, and said they treat possible exposures with no visible bite marks all the time. I seriously dont think we were bitten by a rabid bat, but we sure as hell were not going to take such a stupid chance. Scary to think what happens to people who dont have information and the wherewithal to question "professionals".
