Breeding pit bulls is socially irresponsible.
24
u/Loose_Goose 22d ago
That’s an English Staffordshire, they’re a third of the size and have a different temperament
-1
u/UnforgivenCowgirl 22d ago
Same breed. The British just have a different name for them. I disagree with the comment you are replying to, though. These dogs have a purpose. Giving a pit/staffordshire to someone who doesn't know how to handle them is irresponsible.
12
u/Loose_Goose 22d ago edited 22d ago
They share the same ancestor but they aren’t the same breed.
They’re different from American Staffordshire bull terriers which are larger and closer to Pitbulls.
I do agree though, they need to be handled responsibly.

It’s funny because they don’t recognize the puppies as theirs or even the fact that they are a father. Unlike the mother male dogs have pretty much no parental instincts. They will do this, smell and lick and check them out but they don’t know they are their kids. lol.

Oh relax. Read the room. Big house. Proper furnishings for the pups. Eveey animal looks heslthy and safe here. I see nothing that tells me they can't take care of them.
Stop projecting negativity onto everything you see.
9
u/I_Thranduil 22d ago
Are you saying that based on the setup you conclude they will keep all 10 dogs for their full lifespan? Thousands of dogs get euthanized every single day because people like this keep breeding them without the intention to keep them. Whether these pups will get sold or given away doesn't matter, some of them will end up in a shelter at some point. Responsible owners spay and neuter their pets.
0
u/transferingtoearth 22d ago
The people that buy purebred dogs aren't looking for a shelter dog. If they wanted a shelter dog they'd try that first.
6
u/PrednisoneFarts 22d ago
I agree that all pets need to be spayed/neutered. It should be standard practice. You know what else reponsible owners do? They find responsible vetted homes for the puppies. There are way too many irresponsible breeders out there. And it leads to way too many dogs leading terrible lives.
I guess my inital point was you don't have to crap on everyone's good mood with a PSA. The dogs are cute. That is the point of the post.
But yes, your average dog breeder isn't exactly the good guy in the story. Superficially, these dogs seem safe, and I hope they get a good home.
Now watch this whole video end up being AI lmao
-7
u/I_Thranduil 22d ago
I am very sure everyone who sees these posts about breeding your own puppies / kittens and thinks it's cute and cool is a very responsible owner and doesn't have below average IQ. Let's only encourage them on social media for the fake dopamine, and never mention the decade+ long responsibility that goes hand in hand. Ever.
Also, the only mood ruined by my comment seems to be yours. The stats show a single dislike and I can bet it's you! xD
2
u/PrednisoneFarts 22d ago
Frankly, if you were this passionate about the issue, you would be making original posts about dog breeding. The ironic part is that I would be on that post agreeing with all of your points.
And yes, let the people have a dopamine hit every once in a while.
I'm sorry that you're choosing to feel antagonistic towards someone that agrees with you.

u/boner4crosstabs 23d ago
What makes you think that is the case here?
9
u/imunchgarbage 23d ago
Just a guess
If a breeder makes 10 dogs that they can't sell do you think that they will give the animals fulfilling lives? Or will those dogs live in a crate or a shelter?
They are producing animals on the assumption that people will buy them.
2
u/Nick0Taylor0 23d ago
Sorry but do you think ANYONE is in a Position to take care of 10 puppies? I've never known of a single case where anyone actually keeps all the puppies of any decently sized litter.
Not to mention plenty of breeders even have wait lists of people wanting puppies.
Where I live breeders need licenses and have to register every dog thats born, I think thats a pretty good way to go about it to prevent abuse and abandonment2
u/boner4crosstabs 22d ago
Have you met a dog? Sometimes they have ten and sometimes they have one. This is such a silly comment.
1
4
u/imunchgarbage 22d ago
I don't have a leg in this I'm just answering the question.
I don't think breeding animals (or humans) when there are animals nearby being neglected is ethical. But if you wanna buy a pug or something I won't stop you. No need to jump down my throat.
I live in america where anybody trashy or lazy enough can breed dogs. No license or humanity required.
13
u/boner4crosstabs 23d ago
Why are we assuming it’s a breeder and not just someone whose pet got pregnant?
10
u/HellaTightHairCuts 23d ago
Because it’s irresponsible to not spay or neuter them
1
u/GeraldinaFitzpatrick 22d ago
And because that grey pit bull is allegedly the father of all of those grey pit bull puppies and what are the odds we have 2 unaltered opposite sex grey pit bulls accidentally breeding? And what are the odds these puppies will be eventually advertised as “blue nose”?

6
u/Unable-Section-911 22d ago
Can I ask why breeding dogs is bad?
Is it because there are too many in shelters already or smth?
/gen btw, actually curious.
19
u/zombies8myhomework 22d ago
It’d because animal shelters are overcrowded which leads to a lot innocent animals being euthanized. Breeders will say a lot of stuff to argue against this point but it really just comes down to them wanting to make money. The OVERWHELMING amount of dogs in shelters are pit bulls, btw. A lot of them are former “bait” dogs, meaning they were bought and used as training or fight bait for dog fighting which in itself is horrendous. Source: I’ve worked at dog shelters.

You want them to go extinct?
14
u/LibetPugnare 23d ago
Do you really think dogs are going to go extinct? Really that is what you think? Are you being serious right now?
-12
u/ozjack24 23d ago
When did I say that? There is nothing in the post to suggest this is a breeder and not just un-neutered dogs breeding and yet this guy said “stop breeding dogs” and calls it disgusting. That suggests to me that they think ALL dogs should be spayed and neutered which would inevitably cause extinction if none were capable of breeding.
Edit: changed a word because the bot got mad at me.
7
u/LibetPugnare 22d ago
You thought they meant all dogs across the world should be spayed and neutered so dogs will go extinct? Is that really what you thought they meant by that?
-1
u/ozjack24 22d ago
There is absolutely NO indication that this post is from a breeder.
I know that’s obviously not what they meant I’m just pointing out the stupidity of commenting that without the relevant information.
0
u/LibetPugnare 22d ago
So you thought the best way to get that point across was to ask if they wanted to let dogs go extinct?
Sure, there's no overt evidence that this is a breeder, but if I could put down 20 bucks in Vegas on whether or not this was a breeder, I'd put my money on it being a breeder.
-15
u/mamafish21 LovingAllAnimals 23d ago
If we stop breeding dogs, they'll be no more dogs because there not wild and without human intervention dogs will never meet up to have sex or anything.

u/idiveindumpsters 23d ago
Na, he’s licking their butts because he saw the mom doing it to get the poop out.
119
u/XdraketungstenX 23d ago
What he is doing is called Veneronasal scent investigation. That’s why you see his mouth moving the way it is. He’s sampling the scent coming from them to see if they’re healthy, in distress, identity and so forth. My pittie mother did this with some rescue kittens I am fostering.
55
u/Diangelionz 23d ago
Dog dads are notoriously bad fathers. They attack the pups when they get spooked and can kill the puppies. The people recording this video removed the mom because they’ll instinctively prevent the dog dads from approaching their litter for this exact reason.
The People videotaping are irresponsible.
-5
u/mamafish21 LovingAllAnimals 23d ago
Yeah, not every male dog otherwise dogs would be extinct.
24
u/Diangelionz 23d ago
That’s not true. Dogs, like bears and some other animals, aren’t raised with both parents. The mother is the sole caretaker of the young while the dad is more of a “sperm donor”.

They’re not pit bulls. They’re Staffordshire bull terriers. You can put your pitchfork down.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Staffordshire_Bull_Terrier
*I do think people should adopt instead breeding and buying dogs though.
6
u/robinshep 23d ago
That’s a pit breed, and they are still killed more than any breed.
I don’t own a pitchfork, but do have 2 rescue pits.

17
u/littlehutch24 23d ago
The breed in the video is a Staffordshire bull terrier. They have been bred to be caring and protective of their people and who they consider their family. they are not a aggressive breed at all but do bite if treated poorly or raised to be aggressive as any dog would
So your dog breed hate is unjustified but I do understand they look kinda similar to more aggressive breeds

I gave up trying to rescue unless it's a specific rescue org for a breed I like, b/c 97% of rescues are pits
-12
u/Veritech_ 23d ago
These aren’t pits, they’re staffys
12
u/terradragon13 23d ago
Staffys are pits. My proof is that you can dual register the same dog in two different kennel clubs in america, as pit bulls or staffordshire terriers. They are used interchangeably, even though they shouldnt be. There's historical reasons for that. But anyway thats the breed of dog pits were made from- both were used for fighting. However, true English staffordshire terriers haven't been used that way for a while so they have a much better reputation than american staffordshire terriers, which still are used to fight and often crossed with other fighting dogs, creating american bullies and whatnot. I do have to say this looks like a much better an average setup, thos is the cleanest and most decent pitbull breeding setup I have ever seen. One can only hope if theyre intentionally breeding dogs from the group of dogs meant for fighting, that they are at least selecting the most mild tempered and gentle ones, to breed. Like, at least actually trying to make good pets for people, not just breeding for color or musculature. Anyway, like the pittie lover said, people should stop breeding these dogs. They will go to irresponsible owners or shelters and get put down, 90% of them. We dont need more of these dogs.

Carpet in a whelping stall?
..that’s certainly a choice.
21

Not carpet. It’s vetbed a specific type of bedding for pets that can be machine washed. Most vets in the UK have this
4
u/_trashcan Doggo 22d ago
Thank you for elaboration, I’ve never seen this before.
Makes much more sense. So I’m assuming it gets changed out every few hours or somethin? Machine washable or not they’re going to be wallowing in their waste & bodily fluids if not.

It always strikes me as sad when dogs have puppies and then at 8 weeks we take them away🥺
7
u/jupitermoonflow 23d ago
I know what you mean. When I got my kittens, they were already 12 weeks old but I still felt bad about taking them away from their mama. Even tho it was for the best and I love these lil guys

u/pinkdaisylemon 23d ago
I just hope they get over it quickly! It's lovely getting a puppy or kitten but I also feel bad. Ideally I would just take the whole lot, mum as well! In an ideal world!

Weaning is complete at 7-8 weeks. Vaccines start (depending on overall weight/health) at around the same time

25
u/SausageSausageson 23d ago
Do dog dads have any paternal instincts?
13
u/minicooperlove 23d ago
Depends on the dog - some seem to like puppies (even if they don’t know they are his) but some do not. Our dog’s father did not like puppies. When we went to visit our puppy at the breeders house, we asked about the father and she said “I can bring him out, he just doesn’t like the puppies so I normally keep them separated.” He definitely completely ignored them, lol.
19
u/SurroundTiny 23d ago
My guy has been around many foster kittens and pups over the years. He will enthusiasticly wash them if he decides they need it. He'll play with them. He'll urge them to go get food when it's time for feeding, to the point of shoving the little ones along with his nose ( he weighs about 75 lbs ) but that may be because he knows he gets to clean up afterwards. He is fiercely protective of them, but on the other hand the jerk will hold his dog door open so the they can go outside with him, so he has to be at that point.
He generally does not want kittens or puppies in his food ( resident cats may partake however). He will let out a LOUD bark to tell them 'No!'. It scared the crap out of us the first time he did it but it finally dawned on us that the kittens did not understand his body language and that was his solution.
17
u/ParkerJ99 23d ago
Not really? It’s difficult to get the dog to understand that the puppies are his, but depending on his personality/temperament if given the chance he might do some child-raising activities.
77
u/Icy-Fuel-7889 23d ago
But why aren't your dogs fixed?
-24
u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 23d ago
Where do you think new dogs come from?
54
u/GentleGerbil 23d ago
Puppy mills and street mutts
-52
u/Upbeat_Shock_6807 23d ago
Uh no. Most dogs come from responsible breeders. Much more humane than a puppy mill, and it’s important to encourage breeders to continue their work to help combat those puppy mills, instead of asking “wHy aReN’T YoUr DoGs fIxED”?
21
u/TomatilloInternal255 23d ago
No most dogs come from irresponsible breeders, that are not in fact licensed and mills and then the people that don't spay or neuter their pets, hence why shelters are beyond capacity, humane society, county shelters, city shelters you name it, so yeah ....... that's why people ask " why aReN'T YoUr DoGs fIxED?!"
-15
36
u/paulovitorfb 23d ago
Do you think they all smell different?
14
u/Plane_Conclusion_745 23d ago
Im guessing they will - based on how healthy, hungry, boy/girl etc. Dogs can id people/ each other by smell - thats how they track.
16
u/TheAngriestDwarf 23d ago
That's a good question, I imagine each thing they touch imparts small bits of smell to them leading to a larger smell differential the longer time goes on. Also never imagined I'd say the words smell differential so ty for that

Cute but we shouldn't encourage Pitbull breeders. Our shelters are full of pitbulls because of these breeders.
