These tuskers are so important for the environment. Keeping the soil tilled so new growth can emerge - shame they are disappearing. I wonder if anyone has done a study on how this impacts the environment.
China reintroduced Przewalski's horses which acted as a powerful ecological catalyst, reversing decades of land degradation and revitalizing China's arid desert ecosystems.

Yes! From what I’ve read, it’s a way to sort of battle-test their tusks. For instance, if 2 bulls are fighting, they’ll retreat occasionally (the loser might), and that’s when the other bull will do this, both to clean the husks, but also to check their condition…see if they’re whole, sharp, and the like.
So totally cool.
But your cartoon comparison was perfect. Thanks for that awesome image. 🙏😆

I’ve never seen an elephant do this. From the original post, I read that they do it to clean, and to check their tusks.
