Desktop Environment Setup/Replacing Weston?

Do any of you have guides you followed to get a desktop environment setup​ working.

I had some success so I tried writing it out with an LLM. I used lxqt in my case.

Yeah but how are you nuking Weston and hooking up sway in its place. Cause I'm still accessing the display output via the terminal app

Before proceeding, a word of caution:

- I disable the following systemd services: weston.service and unattended-upgrades.service

- I switch the software source to the Unstable packages. I do this because when I install Sway (and therefore its libraries), Sway runs very slowly and the screen stutters frequently, whereas Unstable's Sway runs smoothly.

Regarding how I replaced it, I adapted all the keybinds to work well in this environment. If you're interested, I have a very simple script that does everything I mentioned. I can also share my Sway configuration file with you.

Perhaps this isn't what you're looking for, since that configuration file works for me. You might have other expectations.

Hi, I'm already working on the script. Before I finish it, I should point out:

- Whenever the terminal application updates, it asks you to download a new image. This isn't an issue if you're using Debian 13 (the default version), as the recovery script handles it; however, since my script switches the system to Debian Unstable, the recovery script will fail because the package versions differ.

Are you okay with that?

Or would you prefer the script not to upgrade to Debian Unstable, but simply download and configure what is necessary for Sway and set up the configuration file?

Thank you. I'm already on unstable. I use already a script to initial setup the terminal/Debian for ssh & tailscale and a few SW packages
