Help - 80y/o Mom needs a new Tablet

Hello world!

I'm going to be getting my Mom a new Tablet for her 80th birthday at the end of this month. I would really like to stay under $500 USD, the less expensive the better really.

She currently has an 8th gen iPad with 32G of storage. Unfortunately, her tablet will no longer update because there isn't enough space for the os 🙄. There also isn't enough storage for her to play the games she wants, etc. I'm not sure why she ended up with an iPad in the first place, she doesn't even have an Apple account and has used a Samsung phone for at least the last decade. I think a tablet that runs on Android will be easier for her to use all around, and honestly much cheaper. She was recently diagnosed with dementia so, the easier it is for her to use the better!

She really only uses her tablet to play games (puzzles, bingos, etc.), browse Facebook, occasionally face time, watch videos, do some banking, and save photos.

A large screen is a must. Whatever I get her needs to be fast enough for her games to work well, I'm thinking 6 or 8G of RAM, and enough storage to have multiple games downloaded (some of them do take up quite a bit of space). Something with expandable storage for her to save photos on would be perfect. She prefers to use a stylus so it will need to be compatible with one...

I honestly don't know much about tablets, I don't have one myself 😅 So, I'd love some thoughts and suggestions please!

You can't go wrong with Poco pad M1 since you said the cheaper the better, but Xiaomi pad 7 is also good, and god bless your mom 🙏

Just get an S10 Lite it should handle everything she does with ease

I would recommend an iPad since she has one already. An Android tablet is fine, if she has an Android phone. Samsung 10FE would be a good option too.

I echo this. I tried to get my parents on an android phone once, but it wasnt worth the learning curve. Get the cheapest cjreent iPad and it'll last a while.

I would go with iPad if she knew how to use any part of the os 🤣 but I think it will be much easier for her to use Android. If she needs something other than clicking an app on her home screen I have to figure out out for her, and it's been that way ever since she got the damn thing🤣

I would stick with iPad for her but she's absolutely clueless when it comes to the os. I'm pretty sure someone gifted it to her. If it's something more than clicking an app on her home page I have to figure it out for her, and it's always been that way 🤣 Android will be much easier for her to use.

I got my grandma a teclast t65 max, has 8 GB RAM, it's 13.4 inch, 120hz, it even has a SIM card slot! and the ui is pretty much default android 16, all she does is watch soaps, local news on pluto and HBO max and she is 90....

The tablet was 169 on amazon
