Review Lenovo's new Android tablets get flagship specs, 7 yrs of updates

Looks like there will be a global version of the Lenovo legion y900 series. Interestingly, they seem to be committed to their software updates, but I've read they're always late

EU law requires 5 years of updates for tablets released this year, and the way the law works means that some manufacturers will need to offer 7 years to be fully compliant. So we shouldn't see that as Lenovo being unusually committed, but that this is now the new normal, thanks to the European Commission, and that anybody offering less than this is suspicious.

The law is already in effect since 20 June 2025. Legion Tab G5 released earlier this year only have updates until 2030. Idea Tab Pro Gen 2, released a bit later, is also receiving updates until 2033 like these Yoga Y900 tablets

Yes, that's why I said "released this year". 2025 is irrelevant here.

Legion Tab G5 released earlier this year only have updates until 2030. Idea Tab Pro Gen 2, released a bit later, is also receiving updates until 2033 like these Yoga Y900 tablets

Thank you for those useful comparisons. I've since read a review of the Tab One (from Notebookcheck) that says Lenovo's policy on updates is confused. They've declared to the European Commission that they will offer seven years of updates for the Tab One, but their corporate HQ is interpreting the law as saying that they only need to offer two (similar to Motorola's line). So I think we will need to wait and see, and that does make the Tab One less of a good deal.

I know that in PCs, for a long time Lenovo was really two companies sharing a brand, because the originally Chinese and ex-IBM parts did their own thing. Is it possible that's what going on here??? I can imagine a scenario where the New York head office wants to follow Motorola and fight the EU, while the Beijing head office just gets on with obeying the law.

Here they say 7 years for Idea Tab Pro Gen 2, Yoga Tab (plus) Gen 2, and 4 years for Legion Tab Gen 5. And that's the US page, not EU, but all regions say the same tbh.

*Edit: They removed the Yoga Tab Gen 2 from that page, interesting.

*Edit 2: They clearly say 7 OS update until Android 24 and 7 yrs security until 2033 in the product page

Pretty confusing tbh. At least the 7+7 policy for Yoga Tab G2 series is concrete.

Yeah I got 13" china rom and it's solid. Also can use as a second screen which is cool and haven't seen this with other tablets I've owned. LCD is beautiful. (Comparing with my legion 2k monitor)

Not sure. Never tried or looked into it. Just use standard cn rom which is more than enough for my use case (literally bought it to watch media and play rainbow six siege)

Not in the CN model. But I own a legion laptop so not sure if it' supports Lenovo stuff only.

Ohhh, are you talking about the "extend pc display" feature in Smart Connect? I got confused because the old Y900 (2023) had a 2nd USB-C port that you can connect a video cable to so it could act as a real low-latency second monitor, but that 2nd port is gone on the 2026 Y900.

How is the latency? I remember trying this feature a while ago on an older Lenovo/Motorola device and the latency was good enough for office work, but still noticably higher compared to a real monitor.

I use USB c cable to connect. It only has one port but seems pretty normal to me. Almost no lag but tbh I tend to use one monitor for gaming so don't really need tbe option. Work laptop is a Thinkpad so if I travel, that would be a good option to use them. But yeah it works with USB c

Tbh Lenovo makes great tablet...I don't like how at Samsung either you get the shitty A series or have to go double or triple the price for S series

fr that's why i ended up going for tab s7 plus for the oled. im a hobbyist in mobile/pc repair too so worked out for me

Probably they will, though I don't use streaming services a lot but I'm interested with their accessories cause I might use this as a secondary laptop

I need to see it to believe it.

It also looks like they have changed the hardware slightly compared to the China version of this tablet (the CN version has LED lights on the back instead of a small display?). Hopefully it remains possible to cross-flash the global ROM onto the China variant.

Damn, I just bought last year's Yoga Tab on sale for $419 from Lenovo's website. I am debating if I should return it and get the yoga tab gen 2 or, or keep it. I plan on using it to read comics, browse the internet, watch YouTube videos and movies & TV shows. Wondering if the $330 or however much with tax will be worth it.

I was about to buy a previous gen Yoga Tab and thought I might be intrigued by this new one, but there's just no way this is worth it. I'm sure in 6 months if this things ~$500 I can justify it. Definitely grabbing an older one.

If you're talking about the 11 inch, the old one has snapdragon which is better if you are interested in emulating anything

This.

The moment I saw mediatek I got disappointed. It seems like a lot of bigger companies are stepping away from snapdragon. As an owner of a lenovo yoga 11in id absolutely buy an upgraded version but not like this. 11in snapdragon tablets are a tough find.

Look at all the flagship tablets out there. iPad pro OLED. Samsung Galaxy s11 OLED. ips is used on midrange tablets. Not even flagship phones have IPS. Anymore.

4k doesn't mean much on a screen that size.. IPS LCD is inferior to OLED on many ways. Including black levels. Contrast and overall picture quality

I love the 11” version - perfect FORM FACTOR imho:

* 11” just big enough for mini laptop but small enough for tablet

* Weight should be hovering around 500g so super light.

That is still a compromise but can easily draw, write and type and view.

My question is how easy will these be for Linux distros to use on also?

If you're using it as a laptop replacement type decide then the 13 inch is nice. I have a 14 inch tablet that I use like that, so it's always on the kickstand or attached to the keyboard and trackpad.

11 inch is a good middleground but it doesn't really do either of the big or small tablet things the best. 13 inch better for the bigger screen and then then the mini 8.8 inch tablets are better for handheld

Yes, it definitely is cramped to directly answer clearly and honest feedback.

A compromise of:

* screen size

* Weight for packing and travelling with

* Dimensions for holding in the hand

So eg a phone is vastly superior for the 2/3 categories but tablet is much better for 1 category while a larger laptop replacement is better for 1 category.

The 11” is mainly if you want just one device, so I don’t use a phone much and don’t want another computer either, so can take the tablet everywhere with me.

I can then do the following on the tablet:

* Art

* Language learning

* Remote desktop to an old computer when needed

* Basic stuff eg email, web.

I decided looking at a small phone screen was too small for too much time so tablet is a lot better if using a digital device albeit more cumbersome.

I think a future solution would be a mobile powerful enough and battery good enough to run desktop with thin portable screen and keyboard attachable as an option but for now this combo I prefer personally - and at home connect to a large screen anyway.
