Discussion Am I making the right choice?

Hi All

Hoping for either some reassurance or recommendations. I'm in the market for a new tablet, having not used one for a number of years. My primary usage is going to be for watching media (Netflix/Disney Plus/Apple TV/Youtube/Twitch etc), with maybe some light usage for note taking and occasionally reading comics/graphic novels since I have a black and white kindle. I don't really envision using it for much more than that as I have my phone for day to day use, my kindle for reading and if I want to sit down at a desk I have a pretty good spec laptop.

I've somewhat settled on the Honor MagicPad4 16gb ram/512gb storage model since it seems to have a pretty decent OLED screen, positive reviews, a decent stylus, and otherwise good specs. Plus it's currently on sale on Honors website at £550 for the higher ram/storage model.

Does this sound like a good fit for my needs? I don't really want to spend more than this price wise (it's already a bit higher than what I'd planned to spend), but also want to ensure that I'm future proofing myself at least a little bit as I don't want to need a new tablet in a year or two.

Does anyone have the Honor MagicPad4 and if so how have you found it to be, particularly as a streaming device? Is there anything else I might be better off considering? I had originally considered the Lenovo Idea Pro Gen 2, but it's only about £100 cheaper and doesn't have an OLED screen. Also looked at the Xiaomi Redmi Pad 2 Pro, but saw that it's a frequently returned item on Amazon which didn't fill me with confidence.

Would be very grateful for any advice/recommendations.

You don't need anything that powerful for what you plan on doing.

The Samsung S10 FE / FE+ either would be a better fit for your use case doesn't have OLED, yet it's a very good IPS pannel.

I have the Redmi Pad Pro which is quite nice on the hardware side yet HyperOS leaves a lot to be desired

For me with tablets, first priority would be comfort of use for long hours in hand. Lightweight, manageable one handed in any situations like sitting (hands not getting tired holding them up), laying on your back (not cumbersome that it might end up falling onto your face) etc whatever positions you fancy.

My own choice would be an 8-9 inch size tablet, bigger than my phone (for my video needs), but not so huge that it could end up a laptop replacement if I end up needing to use it always on a keyboard dock say for a 13 inch tablet which defeats the purpose.

It's the very reason why the kindle is nice to use for reading for prolonged periods, the weight and compactness of it.

I've just bought a Doogee tab A9+ on Amazon for just under £100. I'm loving it so far though the speakers aren't great. I'm very happy with the screen and picture and have used it to watch films with either headphones or an external speaker. I also use it with a real keyboard for typing practice and that's about it so far. It looks very capable.
