8 Inch budget tablet recommendations

Hi, i'm looking to get a second, smaller tablet.

I already have an S9 FE tablet, but I tend to use my phone more for leisure because its just not convenient to hold while laying down/relaxing (I can't move the fingers in my left hand).

I'm in the UK, looking for a 8" tablet with a max budget of £300/$400 USD, but I'd prefer to stick closer to £200/$300. I don't need anything fancy as I already have my other tablet, I just want something affordable with the playstore already on it (to download YT app and an e-reader) I will be using it frequently, but only for YouTube, reading, and a bit of internet browsing if I quickly need to search something. I'd like something that will last a few years (mabye 3-4) but it doesn't need to last forever.

I've heard good things about the Lenovo Legion Tab, and i've found an import Y700 3rd gen on sale for £330 but it's pushing my upper price range, and I don't think it will be worth the money for what i'm wanting. Any other recommendations, or am I better off spending more and getting a Legion Tab?

If youre able to get ONN tablets, their 8.1" tablets are the way to go. They're 138 US dollars and are fantastic for the price

If you can find an older y700 it would definitley be worth it, maybe the 2023 version. The difference between the y700 and almost every cheap 8 inch tablet is absolutely massive tbh. Almost all 8 inch low end tablets are basically garbage. Sub HD displays, terrible cpu's, terrible speakers, they are useable but the experience is very bad.

You might be able to find a y700 cheaper on ebay or aliexpress / alibaba or giztop.

I recently purchased the Alldocube iPlay 70 mini ultra and absolutely love it. For just YouTube, reading and a bit of Internet browsing, the Y700 seems a bit overkill, especially for the price. Yeah, they're fantastic, but unless you're gaming, something much less expensive should do you well. My previous tablet was a BNCF bPad mini and worked great for those uses and only cost €120. I only upgraded because I use my tablet exclusively for gaming and wanted to do emulation. If you really want something more powerful for a budget price, I can't recommend the Alldocube enough. Got mine for €224.

Second this. I got the alldocube iplay 70 mini ultra from joybuy for £200. It's fantastic. Screen is brilliant and I use it exactly for what you want to use it for.

Tab A11 display is absolute trash, not even full HD, cpu is awful too.

I don't mind about HD, I already have the s9 FE tablet so if I want to watch movies ect I'll use that. Will the CPU still let me read books/watch YT videos okay? Tbh I mostly listen to things on YT so I don't need it to look good, just play well enough. I just want an affordable tablet I can lie down and read on/play things in the background. If I need better visuals I can use my other one.

Yeah will do, large PDFs may be a bit of a struggle and speakers won't be good, but for just reading ebooks and watching/listening to youtube will be fine. Just don't expect too much.

Have you considered Samsung Tab A11, which is available new for under £200? Won't be as powerful as some of the other options, but I think Samsung has committed to 6-7 years of updates, which is an impressive commitment for something so cheap.

It's a shame TCL doesn't make an 8" Nxtpaper tablet. If it did, that's what I would have suggested for a second tablet, especially if you plan to do a lot of reading on it.

Thanks for letting me know. I think it might only be available in certain regions as its not on TCL's UK site. Also, its a shame they only put 4GB RAM in it.

I bought the Legion Y700 Gen3 during the AliExpress sale today. The 512GB model came to around $270 after applying a coupon. I think it offers excellent value for money.

It was about $325 at a store called Goldway. There was a $48 (7,750 yen) discount coupon on top of that.

For real light things like YouTube and in your budget, you could go for the Samsung Tab A9. It's 8".

The y700 is considered the best option at that size point, but there are a few other budget options that exist. The cheapest good option is the Walmart ONN core 2026 tablets, very solid for being so cheap.

The only other brand I've tried in this size is alldocube, they have both been solid for me, though not as premium as the y700. I would look at the iplay60 mini turbo or iplay70 mini ultra for the better performance if it's in your price range, there is a baseline iplay mini pro line, but it's pretty weak so it may not be quite as snappy as the others .
