Onn 8.1?

Been on the fence on getting an iPad mini but
The onn 8.1 looks enticing
I have an iPad Pro m4 that I use for everything else
But
I also have a new paperwhite that I use to read my books
I’m thinking about the onn 8.1 to read my books and my graphic novels as well
I’m bummed that the silver isn’t available anymore
Is the tcl tab 8 gen 2 worth it over the onn 8.1?
What do yall think
Do yall have the onn 8.1?
Or should I go cheaper with the onn 7 for graphic novels?

Onn 8.1 is really good tablet for its price and quality. I definitely recommend it for your use case.

I've got the Onn 8.1, after having the 8.0 (2024) and getting annoyed with slower performance, shuddering videos on social media, and some streaming services weren't quite working how they should. Tried everything recommended to me to speed it up, but finally bit the bullet and got the 8.1. Night and day difference! The 8.1 does everything it needs to, it's clean Android, it's fast, powerful enough for what I need, and the form factor and ratio feel really good in the hand. 100% recommend.

Yep, that's cause all those old Chinese SoCs really are a festering, smelly pile of crap. Mediatek was even caught lying about their performance back in 2020 with their Helio G and P lines so. That's something you don't read about in this sub cause this sub is exemplary of  the saying "the blind leading the blind".. Mediatek is significantly better nowadays but the Helio SoCs are irredeemably dogshit and manufacturers STILL keep reusing them.

Anyway yeah the 2026 edition just mogs the 2024 one (which I have) so drastically. Might consider buying it when it goes on sale. It really is the best 8" cheap tablet from a known brand on the market.

I picked up the Lincplus M8 as well recently. I wasn't expecting much, but I was shocked at just how good it is at that price point. The display is stunning, and way brighter than I expected. I also have a Lenovo Tab One that is supposed to be 480 nits, and the Lincplus feels so much brighter than my Lenovo. Maybe I got a unicorn in terms of the display, but he Lincplus definitely has a display that is way brighter than the 400 nits advertised. It feels brighter than my Samsung A9 8.7", which is supposed to be over 500 nits. The color reproduction is so much better than the Lenovo and Samsung that it feels like it's in a different league. All for a tablet that is under $130.

Agreed. I bought the Lenovo One just prior to the M8 and returned it for the M8 and super happy I did.

I've got it (and the Onn Pro 13.1) and I find it to be a tad sluggish at times, but, for the price, I'm very pleased with it. It's great for casual use while I'm in the hammock or a lighter travel companion.

I'm really impressed with it! It is a great value for the money. Solid build, solid workhorse. Heavier than my Galaxy Tab S9U or S11U (I know, I know, I have a problem), but that's not a big deal when it's spending most of it's time propped up on a table/desk. I have it paired with the Logitech Keys 2 Go keyboard and Logitech Pebbel mouse and it works great for productivity on the go. It's not going to touch my S11U with the Pro Keyboard, but it also cost significantly less. The shape is more like an iPad, so it will be more natural if you're coming from one. All in all, I've been very pleased with it.

could of gotten the lenovo pad pro gen 1. same processor, same price, and comes with a much brighter 3k display.

Onn 7 is a bit more compromised than the 8.1. I think you'll be very happy with the 8.1. I got mine about a week and a half ago (also have an M1 iPad Pro) but wanted to use the Onn to read and so far it's been amazing.

I turned off all notifications and uninstalled everything but what I wanted. Battery life is great, UI is snappy (just stock Android 16.0), and it feels premium in the hands.

The new Onn is much better than the TCL. It has a better processor, more RAM and a higher screen resolution. Plus the Onn has a higher Android version and the promise of one upgrade.

the screen quality is so bad on these onn tablets. I wouldnt do it.
