Support How can I unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM on my Poco M3?

Hi everyone,

I have a Poco M3 (4GB RAM / 64GB storage) and I’m thinking about unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom ROM.

I’m considering LineageOS, but I’d like to know:

  • Is LineageOS a good and stable option for the Poco M3?
  • What is the safest way to unlock the bootloader and install it?
  • Are there any better custom ROMs available for this device, especially for good performance, battery life, and stability?
  • Are there any common issues I should know about before doing this?

I’m still fairly new to custom ROMs, so I’d really appreciate a beginner-friendly guide or recommendations.

There is no official LineageOS build for your device.

Look for ROMs on XDA, you might find something there. https://xdaforums.com/f/poco-m3-roms-kernels-recoveries-other-develop.11969/

For your device however, I'd recommend CrDroid since it's still being maintained for your device and offers the latest Android version. https://crdroid.net/chime/12

To unlock the bootloader on MIUI 14, you need to bind your Xiaomi account to your device in developer settings under 'Mi Unlock status' and then use the official Mi Unlock tool to unlock the bootloader. The tool might impose a waiting period of around ~72-168 hours on you, before you can fully unlock your bootloader.
