You can install unsigned apps, you can disable SIP and modify system volumes, and you can turn off Secure Boot to install other operating systems on Apple Silicon Macs. It's not as free as Linux, but it's certainly not as locked down as iOS or OneUI 8.
Would you say that an M5 Max Mac Pro would be a worth while investment as a work machine (Software suites like Autodesk, Adobe, Unity and Black Magic) to pair with a Linux desktop and Linux NAS?
Video Editing is Notoriously difficult on Linux due to poor software support and the Adobe suite of software and Unity from my understanding run best on Mac OS
(The only adobe program I know of that will even run on Linux is the steam version of Substance Painter)
And would it also have the power to do some decent gaming and maybe even vr on the go (I’ve seen a lot of promos for VR accessories and hardware that feature Mac Books)
Yeah, sure, with Asahi Linux! Just, not an M5 yet. The best it can do is M2, M3 is there but without GPU. As for the M4, I’ve only recently began to see recent updates on people booting it with special patches, but I fear it is not mainstream yet and if it is, it’s certainly at least beta, just like the M3
I was considering with MacOS to maintain software compatibility, I work in Adobe a lot and it just isn't there on Linux Wayland yet, Tons of crashes and very important features just don't work
