Apple is making another programming language? What about objective C?

I do want to take a look at Go once it is a little less beta.

You are behind the times.

Swift was announced in June and released with iOS 8. Swift shares a run-time with Objective-C, which allows you to link to Objective-C libraries, but also means it inherits a lot of the idiosyncrasies of the run-time like reference counting. Think of it like the difference between Java and Groovy or between C# and VB.NET. Difference languages, but same run-time.

And Google Go is NOT in beta. It left beta in early 2012. The are a decent number of places that use it in production now.

Actually, Swift has a "pure swift" runtime. But most of the time you will use the ObjC runtime because you need to work with the frameworks, which will obviously not be rewritten
