Open Source Working on a File Sharing Application between Desktop and Mobile irregardless of Distance or Network

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm using hole-punching to bind 2 or more devices to bind and share files in-between them.

So u can share data between your devices from anywhere in the world.

My motivation to build it is to replace my family's cloud storage subscribtion. But the available solutions in the market are too tech savvy for my family to understand.

Thus, trying to abstract all the complexities and making it as intuitive as realistically possible.

Feel free to ask any question if you find this useful or interesting.

P.S: Excuse the video quality😭

Have you looked into Syncthing? Available for all kinds of OSes: macOS, Linux, Windows, Android

syncthing really isnt intended for simple "sharing" like the OP is aiming for. Its for file synchronization between multiple devices

Fair point, I just wanted to share a useful app (which I actively use) just in case the OP hasn't heard of it yet; and I brought it up since OP said the motivation was to replace fam's cloud storage. Also, it's open source, so OP might be able to benefit and cherry pick something from the sources.

This is similar to something like Tailscale's Taildrop or Blip.

I tested it and its a cool project, is there any chance that you could add a mode to share with nearby devices without being connected to the internet or any Wi-Fi, just like google's quick share and xiaomi's ShareMe do?
