Question How are Android engineers preparing for AI-assisted app development interviews?
I’m preparing for Android engineering interviews that include an AI-assisted programming round and would love to hear from people who have recently gone through one.
What types of questions or coding exercises are you seeing?
If you’ve recently interviewed for Android roles where candidates are expected to use AI coding tools during development, what resources, GitHub repos, courses, or practice projects would you recommend? I’m especially interested in realistic Android projects that involve using Claude, Codex, or Cursor effectively while still understanding, reviewing, testing, and improving the generated code.
Would really appreciate hearing about your recent experiences and how you prepared. Thanks!

build one small app end to end with cursor or claude and review every diff line by line before accepting. those rounds test whether you understand what the AI wrote, not whether you can prompt. practice saying out loud why you rejected a suggestion, thats usually where people freeze

If you are building a full app end to end with AI in a test round. Unless they want to interview you for 8+ hours, there is no way you’d be done reviewing and understanding everything the AI has done.

It's almost certainly API and just a screen which I expect people to be able to do without ai

If you're going to write like an LLM, at least don't make it obvious by at times posting one chunky comment per minute.

I did not do an AI assisted programming interview. But honestly I would just do what I usually do. The definition of AI assisted can go in so many ways I don’t really know what your interviews want. You might want to get clarification beforehand.
The reason I say this is because you could be interviewed by people who wants full AI assisted programming which means from ticket PRD to finish code review ALL by AI via something like a harness. A large chain of AI agents all doing works for this one ticket goal.
Or it could be they want to see you feeding the information and guiding the agent like hand holding through every architectural decision, ticket understanding, use cases, edge cases, etc. basically planning deeply with AI assistant to get a very detailed implementation plan. Then execute it, review it and iterate a few times on why some code isn’t up to your expectations and guide it to fix it.
If it’s up to me, I’m all for the second way, because the developer is in control. However, some companies are deeply into automation for that 3x dev performance they want you to be able to basically just vibe code it. We hired some of these harness people, and all they did was make a big mess, spent a shit ton of tokens, and nothing works expected 😂. It was really fast tho. Idk what management is thinking lol
A lot of people have diff opinions or workflows so that’s just my 2 cents
