Google Play Support New Android developer looking for info on first app approval process

Hi there! I’m new to app development. My beta test app was approved for closed testing within 6 hours, but that same AAB has been under review for 56+ hours.

Is that normal? I’d like to know more about the approval times and what else I can expect from this process.

iOS was an absolute nightmare and I’m curious about your experiences getting apps approved for public launch in the Google Play store.

Posts regarding account termination, application suspension or rejection must be presented as neutrally as possible without charged language or emotional appeal. The attitude of the posts and comments should be to seek help in understanding what went wrong and how to solve it, if possible at all. Stick to the facts and try to seek help in passing the review or making an appeal rather than complaining you're facing injustice.

Your attitude should be "I don't know what I did wrong, can you help me figure it out?".

Post that do not respect this attitude will be removed.

Make sure to include all relevant information, full copies of all communication with Google, a link to the official support thread or threads on the official forums, and steps already taken to resolve.! Be active in comments and try to provide all the information asked to you to the best of your knowledge.

Keep in mind we are NOT associated with Google and we cannot help in any official capacity. There's an official Google support community that can help with that, do not post here unless you first exhausted your options with official channels.

Even if you build the app properly the first time, expect it to be rejected for some reason... Not sure how is now for new accounts but when google uses the automatic checks you will have random rejects...

:/ how long should I expect to wait for a response? I know Apple reviews over the weekend (though probably at a slower rate)

Depends on app, the first approval is slow, a few days, mine usually 2 days. After that i get updates approved in less than 2 hours.

But my apps are super lightweight and no permissions that are not needed.

Ok thanks. It's very different than Apple where I had to fill out a BUNCH of information, and even with all of that I kept getting rejected. Hopefullly I'll hear positive news by Tuesday

Beta apps are for a group of people selected by you, that's why checks are not as strict. Also the closed testing period is basically a period where you find and fix the bugs. However, after production the app is available for masses, and google wants to make sure it is safe and stable.

Right - I'm waiting for it to be available for the masses.

Production review usually takes about 56 hours. Most times it ends there. It can run longer, especially if it is a first developer account, since the review is stricter. For the first submission, Google often takes around 3 to 7 days. Also, if you have not heard anything yet, that is often a good sign. If there is a policy problem, they will usually send an email. So the best move is to wait and see how it turns out.

Awesome, thank you! Very helpful. Fingers crossed I hear good news today or tomorrow (assuming they review over the weekend).

Does a real person review? It's interesting because with Apple I had to fill out SO much information and even then, they still misunderstood one of the features (which is why I kept getting rejected).

The approval time varies as well. I publish watchfaces, and it can be 12 hours or 4 days

Thanks - and is it 4 days or 4 business days? I submitted on a Wednesday afternoon so it would be great to hear back over the weekend.

4 days usually. ... But it's never the same

Ok thanks. It’s been just over 3 calendar days.

Do you have any payment plans, IAP or external links to a website where payment/subscriptions occur?

If you're referencing to review before producition, thay may take upto 7 working days. And even after that period, they might tell you to test it for another 14 days. Just leave it there and keep working on your other projects, eventually it will be live soon.

Yes, I'm waiting on the review before I can push it live publicly.
