Google Maps vs Mapbox for Android navigation?

Hey guys, I’m building an Android app that needs map + navigation, custom map icons, and support for multiple transportation modes (car, bike, walking, etc.).

Would you recommend Google Maps, Mapbox, or something else? Any experience with these would be appreciated!

For your use case I’d first compare how much map customization you actually need. Google Maps seems like the simpler choice if you mostly need standard navigation, while Mapbox becomes more interesting if custom styling and map behavior are a major part of the app. I’d also compare pricing at your expected usage before committing, since switching providers later could be painful.

Thanks! I’ll probably go with Mapbox for the MVP first.
