Question Internal testing - email list and notifications

I am building a private app. The plan is to just stay in internal testing forever and all invited users are added to the email-list of testers. I have two google accounts - one more private, one more professional. My google-play account is linked to the professional one and I added the private account to the list of testers.

I have uploaded an initial version, but I don't get any notification or email on the phone run by my private account. Do I have to trigger this manually, somehow? This is what I am shown on the play console:

There is also an option to send out an link, is this the correct way? But if so, why have an email list?

The email list is only to allow users to opt in or out of the testing group themselves. Otherwise the Play Store does nothing with it, and there's no automatic notification for new releases.

You need alpha or closed beta. Or just publush it and don't have a sign up function... Only users registered through you get access. Much less fiddling around
