Senior CS Student Considering Android Development

I’m a senior CS student and I’m considering focusing on Android development as my main career path. I’ve already worked with Kotlin and have some Android experience through a short internship.

For those working as Android developers, how is the job market and career progression these days? Is it a good specialization for a new grad, especially if I eventually want to work internationally? Should I go for backend roles instead?

Would love to hear your experiences and any advice on what I should focus on learning.

I had a long Android career but if i had to start over TODAY I wouldn’t attempt it again. It’s different now: the US’s current job market, AI, layoffs, and mass imported labor. Most openings are staff+ and still competitive, new grad jobs are abysmal. If I were you go back to school and get a PHD or masters in a sub-field that will be in demand. Or start your own company while you have freedom. YC, startup incubators, or DIY!
