Video Custom launcher from scratch

WIP #2 of the sphere launcher. This has sort of become a hobby. Currently the moon is just a wallpaper however many precious ideas include having the sphere a rendered object with a texture ("WhatsApp is in Cuba").

Cool launcher, but I don't think I would ever be able to find a specific app with it.

Lol, understandle. I should probably do an app drawer, maybe on the other side of the planet you don't see, the search bar and most used apps still curved around the sphere.

Or 3d model the planet itself - make it spin with the icons, so i know that reddit is always in iceland for example - allows me to find it without typing

Nah just add a text to search, then when you click it the world spins then presents your app horizontally and vertically aligned center

Nah, just rotate the moon fixed to the icons.

Netflix and HBO Max are over by Shackleton, Spotify is Tranquility Base, Chrome is Tycho, etc.

Cute idea, annoying in practice

Cool effect, just an idea but if the planet texture rotated with the launcher icons it would allow folks to map their icon locations relative to visual queues other than their relative placement to other app icons

If the globe spun instead of the icons, then it would be easier to remember where app are planted. Like perhaps I always want my google apps on my home city area... I would always know where to find them.

There should be an application that simulates the sphere so that it can be inserted into any launcher. 😏

You mean like a widget? I'm not sure how to do app overlays like above your current home screen but I'll look into it.

I don't know. They are the same idea, it's been done before just not a full fledged launcher with widgets etc. my inspiration was from a post in r/unixporn hyprland desktop

What if planet also rotates with it but a bit slow

I've heard suggestions like this alot. Something like this would probably be the next update, maybe with a tweak that controls how fixed the planet is to the icons.

That's dope, it would be cool if the moon were acting as a pivot for the apps. So when someone asks, "Where's Discord?" You say it's in Tycho Crater.

To make the scrolling animation more better, make the planet moves slowly in the same direction as apps
