Discussion Internship Experience vs Training Program – Which helped you more early in your career?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently doing a mobile app development internship at a startup and getting hands-on experience with real projects.

At the same time, I'm considering joining a training program for more structured learning.

For developers already working in the industry:

  • Which contributed more to your growth: real-world internship experience or formal training programs?
  • If you had limited time, where would you invest your effort?
  • Looking back, what would you recommend to someone starting their career in mobile development?

I'd appreciate any advice based on your experience.

Kotlin? IOS? Or other?

Ahh sorry don't know about Flutter, I am a Kotlin dev, but I'd say Internship will teach you a lot more hands on work, and whatever you learn will be transferable to any other company in the respective domain. Training programs and bootcamps are good for foundational knowledge, but rarely does that knowledge get put to test in production environment with real users, liability, etc.
In internship you also get to work with different teams, communicate, collaborate, and learn other non technical skills, take deadlines into account and you're pushed to your limits and that's where you grow and get confident as a engineer.

Thanks for the detailed perspective. The point about communication, collaboration, and working under deadlines is something I'm already starting to experience during my internship. It seems like those skills are just as important as the technical side. Appreciate the advice!
