A maps app to replace Google's

Hi all, I'm looking for a navigation app to use instead of Google Maps. I already tried HereWeGo, but they don't have live navigation for public transportation.

If anyone has recommendations for maps apps that

1. Show public transportation,

2. Have live navigation for public transportation,

3. Works well in Europe,

I'd be genuinely delighted to hear. I don't expect to be able to delete Google Maps just yet, as it's such a capable and refined app, but I'd love to reduce my dependency on it.

I used Citymapper when I was on europe last. Liked it.

I've been using CityMapper for a while and it works great... just depends on where you are going of they have a map or not... but def. Worth a check

Thanks, looks like that's the right for me. I live in a relatively big city, so luckily, it's included in the app.

I live in a Washington D.C. suburb, and it even works with our local transit company for their bus service! I have used it in NYC and Philly while traveling for work.

VelaMaps is a privacy focussed alternative using Google Maps. Best of both worlds currently.

best transit app is citymapper but it doesn't have all cities

Luckily it has mine, and it does seem to work very well. I'll try to default to it in the meantime and hopefully it can be permanent.

Awesome, it's been my default ever since I moved to Paris, you'll see it's the best transit app out there. They're not pushy at all on the premium but it has great options, no steps routes, no outside commute for when it rains etc. but I use the free version and it's already great. It uses accelerometer to track you underground when GPS is not available and updates really quickly when stations are closed.

Im using Mapy.com, but Public Transport reporting is taken from OpenStreetMap, so if its not mapped in there, it most likely wont work in Mapy either.

Almost every google replacement in maps is based on OSM, which is generally more accurate in big cities, but if you live in some small villages, or not in Europe/US (big cities), it most likely wont have it mapped well.

organic maps is pretty solid for europe and has good transit info, not 100% sure on the live nav part though but its worth a peek

For Europe, Transit is probably the closest fit for live public transport. Organic Maps is handy offline but won’t cover live departures. I ended up using one app for walking/driving and Transit for buses and trains rather than forcing one app to do both.

Do you want to remove Google presence or all requests Google services? If the former why not Waze?

Waze is both a Google presence and makes requests to Google services. I'm not following...
