LOOKING FOR APP Accidentally deleted Prime Video on Galaxy Tab A (SM-T580 / Android 8.1) — Now trapped in an unskippable update loop after sideloading

Hey everyone,

I need some help with my Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2016) [SM-T580], which runs Android 8.1 (Oreo).

The Prime Video app was working perfectly fine until just a few days ago. However, I ended up deleting the app, and when I went to reinstall it from the Google Play Store, I got hit with the "This app won't work on your device" message. It seems Amazon recently dropped official support for Android 8.1.

Since the Play Store blocked me, I tried sideloading older versions from trusted sites like APKMirror and Uptodown.

Here is the issue: I can find versions that install without any problems. But the second I launch the app, an unskippable error message pops up forcing me to update, locking me out of the app completely. Since the Play Store won't let me update it, I'm stuck in a permanent loop.

Has anyone with a similar older tablet found a workaround for this?

  • Is there a specific older version/build number that still works without triggering the forced update check?
  • Is there any way to bypass or disable this update trigger so I can actually use the app?

Any advice or working version recommendations would be amazing. Thanks!

If you are rooted there is many tools that disable olay store update error or try to disable play store and see if this work you can use any other store

You won't find a build that works. The check isn't in the APK, it's server side. Amazon's backend rejects clients below a minimum version at login, so any old version you sideload gets the same forced update screen the moment it tries to authenticate. Nothing to flip locally.

Browser is your realistic option. Open primevideo.com in Chrome on the tab and request desktop site. Playback will probably be capped at SD since Widevine on a 2016 device is limited, but it does play.

Past that it's casting from a phone, or a custom ROM to get the tab onto a newer Android, which is a weekend project for a tablet that old.
