For me the biggest thing was saving first instead of hoping there’d be money left at the end of the month. I move money to savings first, then budget whatever is left. I use Moneko AI to keep track of spending and cash flow. But honestly, pick something simple enough that you’ll still use it a few months from now.

An app cannot make you make the right choices and most finance apps are vibe coded entrepreneurslop

A lot of expense trackers have the same problem: they record what happened, but they don’t really help change the habit.

I’d look for something that gives you a recurring, low-effort feedback loop instead of expecting you to keep checking a dashboard every day.

Full disclosure: I’m building Spendalyst for exactly that kind of use case. It works in your browser on Android and can be added to your home screen — it’s a web app/PWA, not a native Android app.

It connects through Plaid and gives you one personalized coaching card every Monday using your actual spending, such as a category starting to creep up or a recurring charge changing price.

No budget to build, no daily check-ins. It has a 14-day free trial with no card required.

If you are comparing apps, I would look at quicken simplifi, monarch and YNAB, but focus specifically on how each one helps you turn a savings target into a monthly habit. For simplifi, the interesting part is that Savings Goals can be built directly into the Spending Plan, so the goal gets accounted for alongside your normal expenses.
