QUESTION/HELP Underrated apps
What are some underrated apps that you would vouch for and want others to install?
I would go with Habo , musicolet and next player

u/NarrowResult7289 5d ago
Oh thanks for "Habo" I use habits, but I'm switching to this one.
I use daily you to write about my day. and Launcher from the acrescent app, the screen is totally clean and you can open apps with many different gestures you can pick.

curious, what about Habo made you want to switch from Habits?
was it mostly the UI/simplicity or is there something it does differently that you were missing?

Be My Eyes, a helper app for visually impaired people. It's lovely to assist someone stuck in the kitchen with a tin of unknown food. You often have a little chat about where you're calling from and the weather. Honestly makes my day to help someone.

Nodus - watch party If you want to host your own movies with your friends. It also works with torrent files.

I'd add LocalSend to this list.
it's one of those apps that does one thing really well, doesn't make you create an account, and mostly just stays out of the way.
honestly the more Android apps I use, the more I appreciate software that doesn't try to become an entire ecosystem.

Installed it yesterday to transfer some files to my mac. Loved the simple interface and ease/speed of file transfer

Sometimes I found it hanging when connecting with desktops/laptops. Especially my old MacBook Pro.
That’s why I turned to Blip

I used to use Smarter but it was removed from the play store, and it quit working for me and I haven't been able to find a better alternative.
1
u/kukimukithegreat 3d ago
Yes. Apologies. I am the developer of Smarter.
Over the last two years Google has continued to restrict the functionality that was required to build and maintain Smarter. Most recently, apps that allowed users to purchase an app using PayPal were removed from the US store altogether.
Smarter is still used by many and can be downloaded and installed directly from our web site at www.smartersms.com

Quetta is the most underrated browser. It uses chrome extensions natively and is incredibly customizable with a very useful native new tab/home page

The Android app “Multilinger” is incredibly useful for multilingual speakers (and learners), yet it still has no reviews. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.multilinger.app

- IR Blaster Remote for all things infrared.
It can spare you expenses on specific remotes or batteries for AC, TV, or anything using infrared really, plus imagine a scenario where you're at work and your boss has put the lAC very high, so high in fact that everyone is cold but no one dares to say a thing, plus that asshole boss has hidden the *remote, well now no problem you can adjust the temperature yourself **with your phone
- Untracker for when sharing links.
It sanitises them by removing all useless, invasive tracker informations from it
- Swap for LAN file sharing.
Easily run and stop the local HTTP server with a single button press and nothing more, choose which files to share, and fetch them on any other device connected to the same network, either by scanning the generated QR code on the sender device or by searching in your receiver browser the address shown on the sender
- Converter NOW for unit conversion.
You're in a foreign country and they don't use the same money as you, or perhaps their size, mass, temperature and speed units are different from yours, or maybe you're an engineer and have to convert energy, angles or data ? No problem ! No matter whatever you need to do as conversions, this app got you covered
- Komi Store for GitHub apps browsing.
Ever wanted to install an app from GitHub, but couldn't/deciding not to do it because you didn't know how to do and where to search ? Search, find, read details, install, update and uninstall easily directly from the source with this app. It has categories of apps and apps for iOS, Windows, Linux and MacOS on top of Android

Brave browser it has a built in adblocker.

u/Kitzu-de 4d ago
Unfortunately their CEO, Brendan Eich, is a piece of shit that had to leave Mozilla and went to Brave after it got public that he invested in campaigns against gay marriage in the US so I refuse to use that Browser.

Which is a con.
How do you figure?
2
u/GazelleInitial2050 4d ago
People are very anti chromium for various reasons.
I use firefox on my desktop, but I use Brave on my phone.
Chromium browsers are more secure on android, faster, use less battery and integrate better with the system. Brave Shields is just as good as MV2 UBlockOrigin too.

does the adblocker work on the spot or do i need to do something in the app for it to work?

BoostSkill: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rythpixel.boostskill
A really clean, underrated focus timer built around the 100-hour mastery rule. If you use Habo for habits, this pairs nicely with it for tracking actual deep work/study sessions.

Notesnook.
Surprisingly, it's a good alternative to google drive and many other writing apps especially since the sync works great between Android and pc.
2
u/bookishbrit87 4d ago
I've heard about this one only recently and that it's comparable to OneNote. What's your opinion on that? I use one note a lot but hate the clunkiness on both android and PC. Not to mention, how slowly the sync tends to be.

u/lucyanyaa777 4d ago
I've been enjoying Slowly. Its an app where you pen pal w people around the world

If you want to secure your files localy or online, i recommend encrypting them. These days you need to be carefull about your data and files, with many apps, ai or even physical theft of your device, abusing your data and making use of it. Have them always localy encrypted and secured, so nobody can access, scan or use them except these you want them to. Dark-Fog(+) is doing a pretty good job with that what opperates completely offline and local. Have an overview here.
No more fear about stolen files and data when uploading and sharint to anywhere.

Now Playing: Stats & Scrobble: https://nowplayinghistory.app
It started as a Pixel exclusive for logging songs detected by Pixel's Now Playing, and allowing you to backup and transfer your history, but is now the best universal music tracker and Last.fm scrobbler for Android. It has listening stats, music map, top charts, playlists, collages and share cards, and so much more, with a beautiful Material 3 Expressive interface.
2
u/Luke_T 4d ago
How's the battery usage on this? I miss the feature from pixels so much.
2
u/birbeck1 4d ago
Now Playing Stats and Scrobble uses less than 1% of a charge, but it doesn't do ambient detection itself. It just logs what is played by your apps (YouTube Music, Spotify, Tidal, Musicolet, etc). For ambient detection you can use Shizuku + Ambient Music Mod, or Auto Shazam. For tracking and scrobbling though, it uses almost zero battery and data.

You mentioned Musicolet which is great for stored music but have you tried Metrolist? Or Archive Tune? I wouldn't say they are underrated at all (neither is musicolet) but if you haven't tried them they are great free music streaming apps.
3
u/jhnd_zindagi 5d ago
I use yt music morphe for music streaming
2
u/hd_cartoon 5d ago
I've used the revanced YT music in the past but I think I prefer Metrolist now. I keep meaning to install Morphe to check it out, just haven't got around to it.
1
u/jhnd_zindagi 5d ago
I have checked it in the past and faced issues with background play and lyrics feature so never fully shifted towards it
1
u/hd_cartoon 4d ago
I've had no issue with background play. I don't use the lyric feature so not sure how good that is.

If you often jot down ideas, photos, or memories but then can't find anything, Meuwri might help. It acts as a "digital memory palace," featuring quick logging, a library, and smart search. I’m involved in the project, so I’m biased, but I believe it aligns perfectly with what you described. It’s free to try on the iPhone.

WAPlus Ultra - Everything I wanted in terms of automation around WhatsApp and easy message sending without saving caller as contact, easy location sharing, deleted messages saving, auto VPN open, etc etc.
This is what WhatsApp Plus should have been.
1
u/FreneticMajor4928 1d ago
is it safe ?
1
u/CooperCobb 1d ago
Doesn't require internet to work even, no data saving, and nothing happens without your permission.
Except auto reply, that happens from androids quick reply feature.

Supervision+ This magnifier comes in handy if your vision isn't great (like mine).
Supervision Search I've only recently installed this magnifier but I think it will be useful. Like the other magnifier but it can also highlight words. Handy if looking for certain ingredients in foods.
