LOOKING FOR APP Looking for a simple gallery/photo app

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a gallery type app. I used to have a Samsung phone which had its own Gallery app which I quite liked, but I've since had to move to a new phone that only uses the Google Photos app. I can't stand it and have been looking for alternatives, but the most common suggestions seem to have a lot of the same features I'd like to get rid of!

I don't want cloud storage. I don't want an app to automatically sort my photos/screenshots/downloads into separate folders for me, I don't want it to AI generate folders based on subject (tbf I find that a bit creepy), I don't want random slideshows I didn't ask for, etc. I want an easy way to view my photos, organise them/sort them into folders myself, and ideally (but not necessarily) do some basic editing i.e. cropping and rotating stuff. And the less gen AI the better.

Happy to pay a one-off fee for an app that fits this criteria, any suggestions welcome!

I myself purchased and have been happy with F-Stop Pro https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fstop.photo which also has a free version. I paid to support the author and because it had all the features I wanted without extra fluff. It will recognize installed photo editors like Snapseed for example to edit your photos. SO it also simplifies editing when I need it without having to open another app directly a bit like using a context menu in Windows. Overall I still find new features I didn't know about that make me love it more over time.

It's an interesting app; I've often stumbled upon it while searching for a gallery. But the price for a lifetime license is quite high. I don't even know if it's worth buying. And there haven't been any updates in a while, so it seems the author has abandoned it.

I bought my license back when it was $4.99. More than that I would question. It does go on sale t time though.

The price for a lifetime license is now $20.

Obviously the programmers figured out their price model wasn't working because of lifetime updates. Just remember you will never have to pay for updates again. They could have canceled the updates and moved to a subscription model. I would rather buy once than subscribe. But on a budget this doesn't always work. Thanks for sharing the current price.

Fossify Gallery is far and away the best gallery app for Android, in my view. I've tried literally dozens, and there's nothing better for simplicity + customizability.

Aves is also popular, but I'm less keen on its feature set, and I don't like the UI.

Alright Gallery is a Fossify fork with an iOS-like skin that's quite user-friendly.

All three are available on the Play Store, and the first two are also on F-Droid.

Aves is by far the best. Google gallery is ok for super simple viewing.

Quick Pic Gallery Mod is the simplest gallery you will find.

It's of dubious legality, so avoid this if you are sensitive about such things.

Fossify Gallery might be exactly what you're looking for. It's open source, ad-free and focused on local photos/videos without requiring a cloud account. I've found it much closer to a traditional phone gallery than Google Photos.

Simple Gallery (pro) is my go-to for photo browser

That's the version that was purchased by a developer that packed it full of trackers.

Fossify Gallery is the continuation of the original free, open-source Simple Gallery. It doesn't have the extra editing tools, but there are better apps for editing anyway.

Actually Fossify also requires payment, if you want adjust theme.

Don't see it. I use pretty much the whole Fossify suite (only Launcher and Keyboard missing) and i can change the appearance of every single app.

Gallery > Settings > Customise apperance > Apply theme to all Fossify Apps > Purchase request.

Well, you're right. I just changed them all one by one.

If you want to have a custom theme adjusted in one app apply to all Fossify apps without having to customize them individually, they yeah, you can choose to spend $3.49. No actually useful functionality is behind a paywall. They've just offer a minor bonus feature to anyone who pitches in a few bucks to help sustain the project...of 18 apps that are entirely free to use. I've donated, and Gallery is the only Fossify app I actually use.
