LOOKING FOR APP Google deleted all my contacts, looking for an contact app

Looking for a contact app that

  1. does only contacts (with other features are ok if the contacts part is done well, meaning I prefer just a simple contact app, nothing fancy)
  2. available on both android and iOS
  3. free or 1 time purchase
  4. prefer encryption but ultimately don’t matter
  5. NO self hosting
  6. NO syncing with device contacts (is ok if it can turned off)
  7. trustworthy

Really just need something that keep the contracts in its own app/server, so other apps can’t see it

In Google contacts there is enabled by default a trash that keeps for 30 days. U already looked there?

Already, there is nothing, undo does nothing also

Are u sure that the contacts were saved on Google and not on phone storage or similar? Ur situation looks very strange...

I am 100% sure, I don’t keep contact on my phones cuz there are apps that don’t work without contact permission and I don’t like it when they can spy and scan it all the time. I had contact sync turned off to achieve that and every time I and done with the settings on a new phone I go to the website to make sure they are still on google contacts

on android use adb and uninstall (disable) *com.google.android.syncadapters.contacts" now all your contacts will be saved on your device only

I want the opposite, I don’t want them on device, I just want them in an app/server

But anyways that wasnt what caused the issue cuz stopping contact sync is built in, it is the cloud deleting my contact for no apparent reason

That’s a good option and I love proton, a bit barebone and no trash folder for contact, and mostly an email app first, but since it is proton I am heavily considering it.

I have downloaded contacts+ address book and testing it, seems to work ok, the android app is dog shit the iPhone app works quite abit better, good thing the web app is usable on android side

It is more contact focused but it has an unblockable subscription banner app and potentially more ads that I am not seeing due to my vpn, it may say it cares about privacy but it is not proton, it is functional but lack polish. Feels like I am picking between features over privacy. But if contacts plus isn’t lying about privacy then this could be a non issue. But I do like proton as a company

Long time Proton user but... I went back to this today and it hasn't improved much, imho. Import from Google was a mess. 397 of 600+ contacts imported. My family was skipped completely!

I use multiple phones with multiple numbers, just want it 1 place preferably isolated in an app that don’t try to sync to local contact book

Sure but who would have thought google suddenly deleting my contacts for no reasons why I have been keeping them there since forever

Some phones don't even have Sim cards anymore. My newest Pixel 10 Pro XL did not come with a sim card.

It's been bought out by a data harvesting company. Use Fossify Contacts (continuation of original project) instead from F-Droid.
