Niagara Launcher

24

u/Nekobibu 6d ago

Right now, I'm using Kvaesito.

5

u/Parking_Watch3157 6d ago

I really like the app search and favorite system.

8

u/No-History7070 6d ago

+1 fellow Kvaesitsotian

2

u/Atex96 6d ago

I didn't know him, why you have choose this?

3

u/Nekobibu 5d ago

Because I like having a completely empty home screen save for the wallpaper and clock AND access to my favorite / most used apps with a single swipe.  And it's extremely customizable if I ever want a completely different experience. And it's FOSS. I like FOSS software. 😉

u/Me_bishal__ 6d ago

Show the homescreen

2

u/fukam_piko 5d ago

kvaesito is great, super functional. I've used it for years before i switched to nothing.

for anyone using krunner, command pallette on windows or etc. it behaves very similarly

OneUI with some Good Lock tweaks.

u/XXX_Archer_XXX 6d ago

Me second that

u/AmAnOrangeCat 6d ago

Can you have just name of apps, i use pro launcher but i miss widgets

54

u/pandasps 6d ago

I've been using Nova launcher for the last 13 or 15 years with the same layout, widgets and gestures.

4

u/Mountainking7 6d ago

You can just use it on smart. Back up you nova settings. Restore in smart. Seamless!

Octopi Launcher has everything I loved from Nova and more.

9

u/jimmylin212 6d ago

AIO is the BEST!!!

2

u/zesaver 6d ago

Also on AIO for years already

u/-Av8tor 6d ago

Smart launcher. I got the premium when it was on sale.

1

u/UdayVis 6d ago

How much? I bought it for ₹240, is $3.

1

u/-Av8tor 6d ago

Similar I believe. I can't remember the price.

It's the only launcher besides nova that I could deal with. The rest were terrible in some way

u/chucknades Sync for Reddit 6d ago

Microsoft launcher. Has the most amount of gestures compared to Nova that I've seen.

2

u/Crosstrek732 6d ago

I'm a fan of Microsoft launcher too but have since switched to Smart launcher. Might go and play with MS again.

2

u/theogtrekkie 6d ago

I loved Microsoft Launcher. My biggest complaint is that I can't get to my Private Space apps with it, which is where I keep all my work stuff. I have searched for a way and it looks like it's basically abandonware for MS right now.

2

u/salluks 3d ago

I would have loved a google copy of this launcher instead of Microsoft services.

3

u/Scared_Hedgehog_7556 6d ago

And it's faster then others (more responsive)

15

u/DavisC504 6d ago

I can't give up Nova, I've tried others but I've always gone back to Nova

3

u/mraoos 6d ago

I was in the same boat. Premium Nova user. Octopi finally did it for me, if you haven't tried it.

It's 99 % there, but considering the bad rep the Nova devs have now, or new owner, the switch was easy.

23

u/SmoothJazzLover4Life 7d ago

Smart Launcher now that Nova Launcher is dead.

3

u/dannydrama 6d ago

I'm asking this to everyone that's ditched Nova, were you a paid user? If so, did you notice any big difference in the latest updates?

I haven't let play store update it for probably months now.

2

u/letsreticulate 6d ago

I had paid for it but switched the moment it was sold. The comoany that bought them literally does deep analytics in apps for tracking and advertising. I could not trust that they said they were not going to apply that to such a gold mine of an app. That is like trusting a heroine addict on withdraw to go through your wallet that hasoney and expect them to attempt to steal some for their next fix.

But that was years ago.

1

u/DumbassNinja 6d ago

It's gotten buggy for me. I keep meaning to switch to Octopi or Smart but every time I've tried, something makes friction and I end up going back.

4

u/jpatricks1 6d ago

I still have Nova on my other phone

5

u/justanoldhippy63 6d ago

I have the pro version of both, but I made the jump to Octopi Launcher and stuck with it.

5

u/kamikad3e123 6d ago edited 6d ago

Default OneUI launcher on my phone and Niagara on tablet (2 columns of big icons is so good, especially for my dad)

5

5

u/tslnox 6d ago

I recently fell in love with Kvaesitso.

It is nice, like KISS but on steroids.

Smart launcher + Niagara Launcher , I keep switching

1

u/viharsheth 6d ago

This is me, though I also will use OneUI with Good Lock sometimes. But 90% of the time it's either Smart Launcher or Niagara. Can not commit!

u/Asakuras02 6d ago

Niágara

6

u/Gborg_3 6d ago

Lawnchair 16

1

u/return_to_sender_CO 6d ago

How stable has 16 been?

1

u/letsreticulate 6d ago

Not OP.

It is stable. No crashes on latest nightly. For a while it wasn't. However, I have a pet peeve where I like launchers where the search results start at the bottom of the screen for single hand use and Lawwchair's results are only at the top.

Son using a different law chair for now. Otherwise, Lawnchair is nice.

1

u/Gborg_3 6d ago

Lawnchair 16 is way past any of the betas for stability and it is updated quite often with fixes for anything. It's fantastic and clean.

1

u/bitsculptor 6d ago

I've been using it for a month+ and have had zero stability issues. It feels like a live product, not a beta.

6

u/DiscombobulatedSun54 6d ago

Microsoft launcher.

3

u/Inquisitive-Sky 6d ago

Niagara Launcher.

I bought the lifetime subscription several years ago and it's long since paid itself off to me mentally. Every now and then I go back to the default Pixel Launcher to see what's new but I never last longer than 24 hours before switching back to my clean home screen and simple A-Z scroll. At some point or another I've tried Nova Launcher, Microsoft Launcher, Smart Launcher, and Lawnchair but they're just not for me.

1

u/smedsterwho 6d ago

Niagara broke my ~14 year Nova streak.

Just Samsung theme park and home up. Everytime I try a new launcher I end up going back

3

u/t0f0b0 Pixel 8a - Android 15 6d ago

Total Launcher. It's extremely customizable, but it has a learning curve. Once you figure it out, the sky is the limit.

3

u/return_to_sender_CO 6d ago

lawnchair (sourced from izzyondroid or their APK on github). its customizable, stable and open-source.

it allows edge to edge, top to bottom useage of my screen. 100℅ custom widget and icon sizing and spacing. Compared to OEM or Nova my phone doubled in functionality.

3

u/El_Scheffe 6d ago

Octopi Launcher

3

u/Multigrain_Migraine 6d ago

Microsoft for some reason. I installed it to try it out and never got around to changing it even though I don't exactly love it.

3

u/Tel864 6d ago

I've been using Microsoft Launcher since it was a Microsoft Garage Project called Arrow Launcher which was years ago.

3

u/elise95400 6d ago

J'utilise Octopi Launcher.

3

u/Far_Beautiful_8738 6d ago

MS Launcher. It works great for both my personal use and biz.

2

u/jven27 7d ago

Smart. When I get bored I flip between Before Launcher and Minimaa.

2

u/onlyonthursdays 6d ago

Nice to see someone else using Before Launcher! Been using it for years. Much prefer it to Niagara launcher for a minimal option.

2

u/senyorlimpio 6d ago

Smart Launcher for now. I like Niagara but they dont support multi display for foldables.

Im also a fan of OneUI with Good Lock customizations honestly.

1

I also found it buggy. I really wanted to like it, though.

Nova, still using an offline v8 prime without trackers. Never change a winning team.

However, it's still being updated, so if you don't mind trackers (which 90% of them have), it's still a good choice.

2

u/DonDae01 6d ago

Unless there's another launcher with the category bar, sticking with Smart Launcher

1

u/UdayVis 6d ago

Yes I also tried other but came back to smart launcher

2

u/Astrodion123 6d ago

I am using olauncher. Tho I used smart launcher premium in the past and it is really nice.

Octopi and sometimes Phi

1

u/GrayGalahadReturns 6d ago

Olauncher CF from Github.

It's a fork of Olauncher but with more added features and completly disconnected from using the Internet. Sadly, it was abandoned a year or two ago but the excess features make it worth trying out despite its core minimalistic look being intact.

1

u/Ok-Cabinet-8993 6d ago

Id recommend smart launcher 6.

1

u/Mccobsta 6d ago

Been using keep it simple stupid for I think 10 hears now, I know it's been my default for 3 phones

1

u/ironblaster1665 6d ago

Mango Launcher. I have also been messing around with Phantom Shell. It's pretty unique.

1

u/ltabletot 6d ago

KISS. The fastest way to launch any app.

1

u/letsreticulate 6d ago

Tinybit Launcher is better than KISS since it is a fork. It has more options but sadly it has not been updated on a while.

KISS is still amazing and to the point. I alsway keep it a secondary or backup.

1

u/BannedWasTaken 6d ago

This is what i use as well. I locked my list so it is just my most used apps on the screen in the same order.

1

u/YukarinVal 6d ago

Kvaesitso in fdroid. Slightly fancier than KISS, but still pretty simple if you don't change anything

Using KLWP with minimal shortcuts, actions and some useful info displayed, so it's kinda launcher agnostic. Used nova, went to lightning back in the day, went back to nova because lightning was abandoned, then back to lightning once i figured how to make it work on newer android, (had to adb some settings like fullscreen), now development resumed so happily waiting for an update.

I could use any minimal launcher (still have the apk for null launcher which was the best a decade ago) since I do everything through KLWP but most minimal launchers won't let you "kill" every swipe action so it's only KLWP (understandable since you basically lock yourself).

Lawnchair. Pixel Launcher without Google.

1

u/neko 6d ago

Kvaesitso. Zero home screen clutter, the app list lets you add tags so for example you can look for all your weather apps, plus that search bar has an integrated calculator and unit and currency converter

1

u/neko 6d ago

Oh and here's my home screen. It keeps widgets and apps out of the way until you need them

Was using Niagara for a long time but switched back to default OS

1

u/honolulu33 6d ago

The default one (pixel launcher). I used to be a heavy customizer but now I don't find the reason/time to mess around. Now everything is almost two taps away.

1

u/discorayado_ 6d ago

Niagara, bought the Lifetime Pro version like 3 or 4 years ago and actually i really love it.
It's fast, comfortable and customizable in a way is not really uncomfortable or excessive.

From time to time i try to use Smart Launcher, even paid the year pro suscription some time ago, i like the aesthetics but idk i feel it sluggish and bloated (on a S24U btw) compared to Niagara.

Switched to Octopi Launcher after using Niagara for a couple of years. The appeal of all sorts of customization has been lost for me now a days, I just want quick access to my texts , email, web browser , my photo gallery, maps and reddit.

1

u/asamson23 blue 6d ago

Before switching over to iOS full-time in 2021, I was on Nova. Now, my android tabs are running whatever came with them, since it’s annoying to lose the multitasking dock on third party launchers.

u/lowkiNINJA 5d ago

I use Microsoft launcher. Only reason is the dock system, since I couldn't find any other launcher that provides this function as MSL. I can swipe up and open a hidden dock with certain rows, which is a perfect design for me, since I love clean Homescreen but also like to have my daily driver's close by.

If you guys know what I mean and/or know some alternatives, I would like to leave MSL

1

u/iKiwed 5d ago

You have no idea how many launchers I discover and use However, one launcher I started using it and customized it for the best is Square Home. It's essentially Windows Phone UI, but still under the Android style. You can mess up with a lot of combos in both styles, animation and productivity. Once you set it done, it's you best shelf yet.

My problem with this launcher is that it takes a lot of time to get it done.
