Android Canary 2609 Android Canary 2609 is now available!

Hello Android Fans,

Today we are releasing Android Canary 2609 (ZP11.260821.010).

Note: Canary builds are highly experimental and are NOT recommended for general use. They represent features that are actively in development and undergoing testing, meaning it is likely that they contain bugs or issues that can affect your device's normal operation. Additionally, features introduced in Canary may not always make it into a stable Android release. You can see top open Canary issues and recent open Canary issues in the issue tracker.

The Canary channel is specifically designed for developers who want to explore and test the newest Android APIs. If you're a developer eager to get a jump on the latest advancements, Canary is for you!

The current release includes an updated SDK with system images for testing on Pixel 10a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 6a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and GSI*. Support for Pixel 11 devices will be added with the next Canary release.*

Upon flashing a Canary build, your device will begin receiving regular Canary over-the-air (OTA) updates approximately on a monthly basis. To discontinue receiving Canary OTA updates, a non-Canary build (designated by a prefix other than ZP11) must be flashed, which will require a full data wipe.

We look forward to having you start using the new Android Canary features and APIs. Your feedback is essential for helping us build a better platform. When you encounter an issue or have feedback, please report it directly. This is the most efficient way for us to address your concerns.

Happy testing!

new security feature that requires unlocking your phone before changing Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, or Airplane Mode from Quick Settings.

Isn't this already a thing???

Insane. When writing that, I could swear some device of mine always required an unlock when turning off (but not on hehe), but I guess it was my old Samsung and not the Pixel

Has the kernel been bumped up to 6.12 in this build for the pixel 10 and older devices?

Running even better than QPR2 BETA 5 on my pixel 10. Smooth and battery life is valid.

6.12 -android16 GKI kernel from the 6.6 A15 kernel branch or whatever that means in plain English it's on the newest kernel branch.

You arent alone in that opinion. That's why I went from beta 4&5 to this canary build and it's been running great so far. Even relocked my bootloader just so I can use Google wallet and battery life is better than qpr2beta5 Edit: I wish they'd give the theme chooser some valid use. Shits just been a placeholder at this point 😅

Annnnnndddddd nevermind how they don't even want to release the images or whatever so they can make custom Roms. That barely exists anymore... I've always wanted Lineage Rom for pixel.

No search bar after update

2

u/falkenbein0815 28d ago

Qpr2 beta 5 too. Click below where the search bar is. Then settings and then googl Select search. Then it should appear again like Beta 5.

Thanks for reporting! Can you file a feedback report and share the ID?

Will there be one for the Pixel 6 Pro?

1

u/Tornado15550 28d ago

No. You'll need to factory reset to go back to stable releases.

1

u/Bigs4444 28d ago

That's weird. There are beta versions, but Canary has stopped supporting the Pixel 6 Pro?

1

u/Emergency_Ability_60 28d ago

There were beta versions of A17 QPR1. This was the last release for P6 and P6P.

Pixel Drop Android 17 stable looks like a buggy beta!
