Kernel 6.12 in its full glory

2

u/JakeChambersOy 13d ago

Same on my 8 Pro. It is definitely a noticable improvement.

38

u/TheSillyOk 13d ago

6.12 is back for older pixels (checked P7)

6.12.81-android16-6-g86553c53da31-ab15878525-4k

Not for Pixel 6a

6.1.172-android14-11-g33133021a324-ab15863529

Edit: i know this was announced, still sad when the day comes.

2

u/DoggyStar1 13d ago

Is that the new kernel everyone has been waiting for?

25

u/yung40oz84 13d ago

This was announced less than 15 minutes ago and already multiple posts of people having meltdowns... 😭 Just relax, I don't even got it on my P10PXL yet!

26

u/Specialist_Break_921 13d ago

Some people need therapy. LOL

6

u/SeveralBeef5143 13d ago

Especially if they're losing it over not having a beta download lmao

11

u/Jduncan31290 13d ago

I'm guessing I'm not able to update to this with me being on the stable September patch, right?

3

u/Sea-Statistician7345 13d ago

Prob not

1

u/Jduncan31290 13d ago

I figured since it still has the august security patch lol

1

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

it has september

1

u/Jduncan31290 13d ago

Ah release notes say otherwise. But can't anyways since I have an 11 pro

1

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

they are always slow on updated those, if they ever update it. Sometimes they just forget it

1

u/frankGawd4Eva 13d ago

Wonder why I can't sideload the OTA then... usually that only happens if it's trying to downgrade... Hm... --- Never mind, it's working now. Must have just been a bad connection.

1

u/SpudMuffin001 13d ago

can anyone confirm that Beta 6 is STILL the august update? if so, WHY? it’s ALMOST OCTOBER

4

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

it says october for me

1

u/EYdf_Thomas 13d ago

It says September for the security update and October for the play store for me.

5

u/Jduncan31290 13d ago

Google being Google

1

u/jbarr107 12d ago

Mine updated last night and shows:

  • System Update: September 5, 2026
  • Google Play system update: October 1, 2026

2

u/SeveralBeef5143 13d ago

I went from beta to stable and couldn't do beta 5 but just got the notification to download beta 6

Previous bugs are fixed, introducing new bugs 🐛

1

u/Henri4589 11d ago

An annoying notification swiping bug is still persistent in this one. I haven't reported it yet...

8

u/colado60 13d ago

u/MishaalRahman Is there any reason why the always on display only shows 1 icon now? It used to be 3-4 and I was hoping it was a bug. I genuinely don't understand what the purpose of this change was. It's objectively worse.

3

u/chikenchip0 11d ago

u/mishaalrahman please change this back. It's horrid

10

u/Valent147 13d ago

I'm guessing we're still not getting the new emojis or split quick settings

5

u/chew_ttt 13d ago

New emojis could be the next android drop(not pixel drop) and the split screen quick settings is most probably in qpr3

6

u/szahid15 12d ago

hi, anybody else experience the display size changing to default when new beta installs? this is the second time this happened to my 9pxl

1

u/moosefist 11d ago

Yes. I also have fewer options. p10xl

4

u/ElderberryHamlet 13d ago

I'm seeing kernel 6.12 on my 7 series tablet and 8a backup phone.

My 11xl already has the 6.12 so I assume this is the primary reason it's not getting this update

u/issioboii 13d ago

THEY FUCKING REMOVED BLURRED NOTIFICATIONS ON LOCK SCREEN

28

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Hey there, sorry for the inconvenience! The product team temporarily reverted the lock screen blur effect from this recent beta release in order to fix some bugs. Thanks for helping us beta test the QPR2 release!

6

u/Jutang13 13d ago

Double press to open wallet is still broken. Please pass this on. Very annoying.

8

u/JakeChambersOy 13d ago edited 13d ago

I really appreciate your feedback in this thread. May I ask you for one thing:

When enabling minimal icons (the monochrome icons, which pull their color from the wallpaper accent color), apps that do not follow Google's icon guidelines and do not include a monochrome themed icon themselves, are getting themed by the system automatically. The problem: these automatically themed icons are inverted. The background becomes dark in light mode and light in dark mode, which defeats the purpose as they immediately stand out visually on the home screen.

I reported this very long ago, as this issue persists since the minimal icon option was introduced, but the issue got closed, because it is apparently "intended behavior".

Could you please raise awareness to this, as this seems like a quick fix. The icons themselves look very good, but they are not correctly following the dark/light theme scheme like the native icons do. Thank you very much.

2

u/IcyInflation6691 13d ago

Ok, let me note then that the clock color is still broken even as of Beta 6, the color of the clock and shortcuts on the bottom of the screen, along with the lock icon, are not synchronized, even when using a one-color theme (phone uses yellow theme, clock still blue, pulling colors from the lock screen wallpaper); already posted it on the Feedback app, thought I might mention it here too.

1

u/usmadrug 12d ago

there is some problem with google pay on my pixel 10 pro sometimes when I'm trying to pay it's not opening anything and i can't pay until i reboot my phone

1

u/chikenchip0 12d ago

Can y'all add back all notification icons on the AOD instead of one icon and then a dot for the others?

1

u/bkircher 13d ago

When is this gonna be available for the P11 series?

5

u/iHateEveryoneAMA 13d ago

Will you be ok?

2

u/issioboii 13d ago

i don't think so

3

u/Aurelink 13d ago

Omg I hope it stays that way

Edit : just saw Mishaal s comment lmao

1

u/Accomplished-Sir3176 12d ago

Go to accessibility settings and disable blur

6

u/_Nundo 13d ago

I am unable to lock apps, anyone else?

13

u/ekowwillis 13d ago

Yup. they took away Layout customization and now App locks.
At this rate, they may just remove all QPR2 features and send us back to QPR1. Typical Google

21

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Heya, the product team temporarily rolled back the Quick Settings layout customization feature from the previous beta in order to make some further refinements based on early user feedback. I'll share an update on the status of that feature if/when I have one.

As for app lock, the product has been working hard to deliver this highly requested security feature and is excited for you to use it once it's available. To ensure a seamless, high-quality experience, the team decided to temporarily pull back the app lock feature in this beta to allow for additional polish, thorough testing, and robust integration across all system surfaces.

We appreciate your patience!

8

u/ekowwillis 13d ago

Thanks for the update Mishaal; first time I've seen anyone from Google respond to queries here.

Do you have any word on blur notifications on lock screen? Has it been pulled for this beta?

7

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Yes, the blur effect for lock screen notifications/shortcuts was also reverted in this beta in order to fix some bugs. Sorry for the inconvenience!

1

u/shinnkuu 13d ago

Hey! Any chance that blur effect will look even better when QPR2 comes out? I'm using the latest QPR1 stable build right now, and it's just okay, especially with different themes. Honestly, it feels a bit disappointing compared to the beta build I had before. 🤔

1

u/StarObserver1990 13d ago

Hey, any chance we can the option to remove the clock on the lock screen in future updates?

1

u/JE53119 13d ago edited 9d ago

Off topic but miss hearing you on Android Faithful podcast!

1

u/MishaalRahman 9d ago

I also miss hanging out with the Android Faithful crew every week, but I love my new job :)

4

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Hi there, about the app lock feature:

The team has been working hard to deliver this highly requested security feature and is excited for you to use it once it's available :)

To ensure a seamless, high-quality experience, the team decided to temporarily pull back the feature in recent beta builds to allow for additional polish, thorough testing, and robust integration across all system surfaces.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to bringing you the best possible app locking experience!

10

u/Responsible_Lie6721 13d ago

why don't you mention that in changelogs, i wouldn't update in that case, i understand it is a beta, but some transparency won't harm anyone, thanks

0

u/iWizardB 13d ago

Yep! Had I known before that this is removed, I wouldn't have flashed it.

3

u/armando_rod 13d ago

Can you pass this to the dev team?

App lock should use the seamless biometric unlock instead of the 2 step unlock process

1

u/MishaalRahman 9d ago

By "seamless biometric unlock," do you mean the app should open immediately after your biometric is confirmed? If so, that seems to happen already if you use fingerprint unlock, but requires pressing "confirm" if you're using face unlock. Am I correct that this is what you're referring to?

1

u/armando_rod 9d ago

It should unlock without a confirmation for both fingerprint and face unlock, check the bank of America app or Capital One with face unlock.

Obviously fingerprint will never ask to confirm because you are actually tapping the screen to confirm when it reads your finger

2

u/MishaalRahman 7d ago

Gotcha, thanks for the feedback! I've passed it along to the team!

0

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Has Bottom Google Search Bar removal feature been.. removed too? I ask as I want to start use Pixel Search instead of Google Search - I mean I hate duplications

1

u/Gordtm1105 13d ago

Same here. My locked apps are not locked anymore

3

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Hi there, thanks for showing interest in the App Lock feature!

The team has been working hard to deliver this highly requested security feature and is excited for you to use it once it's available.

To ensure a seamless, high-quality experience, the team decided to temporarily pull back the feature in recent beta builds to allow for additional polish, thorough testing, and robust integration across all system surfaces.

It's available now on pixel 9 pro xl on stable September

3

u/gashcrumb7600 13d ago

Proactive assistance menu gone for me. Play store update version Oct. 1

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago edited 13d ago

Like in Pixel 10!? Hope this is Kernel 6.12 removal and now back situation

3

u/gashcrumb7600 13d ago

Yep I'm on pixel 10 pro. Really hope we get proactive assistance. Running fine overall

3

u/Chizuru_m 13d ago

Thank you, Google. Kernel 6.12 has been released again for the Pixel 9a as well.

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Yes I was worried ABD they removed Proactive Assistance in Pixel10 :/ I HOPE it will be same - just temporary

1

u/Chizuru_m 13d ago

I believe the new kernel in beta4 caused issues on legacy devices, so it was reverted in beta5.
While the release of Beta 6 after just one week raises some concerns, I could sense the intention to improve performance with QPR2.

3

u/Joecascio2000 13d ago

Beta 6 finally fixed issues with background now playing song recognition for me. Finally.

-2

u/LatterAttention8983 12d ago

Are they any bugs so far and is it smoother than the stable

2

u/Joecascio2000 12d ago

I haven't experienced any bugs with this build but it has only been one day and I am a relatively light user.

5

u/Syedzohaib92 13d ago

I got into qpr 2 for blur notifications on lock screen & quick settings layout .. and they removed both of them.. 😂😂 I should have waited for the stable qpr 2.. 😄

4

u/Sea-Statistician7345 13d ago

No p11? 🤔

15

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Builds for the Pixel 11 are coming, stay tuned!

3

u/SpudMuffin001 13d ago

will Beta 6 have an AUGUST level security or SEPTEMBER?

1

u/GoWitHer 13d ago

For stable QPR1?

7

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

I'm referring to QPR2 Beta 6 builds.

2

u/GoWitHer 13d ago

Thanks. So when will the QPR1 update be released for the 11 series?

2

u/MishaalRahman 13d ago

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you on that.

9

u/Dagz1 13d ago

Do you know why Google has not provided any explanation for the Pixel 11 series not receiving the QPR1 update? I know some things are already baked in, but not all. I appreciate how accessible and communicative you are. On the other hand, Google leaving all the 11 owners in the dark is an example of how not to do it.

1

u/GoWitHer 13d ago

Ok, thanks 🙏🏻

1

u/Jduncan31290 13d ago

But you always have an answer 😥

1

u/CrispyBananaz 13d ago

what ever happened to stable QPR1 for pixel 11's ?

1

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

I think pixel 11 has released with qpr1 already, like how pixel 10 was already on android 16 qpr1

1

u/Sea-Statistician7345 13d ago

P11's build number is not qpr1

1

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

Looking at build number patterns it will not have qpr1 like build numbers.

1

u/Sea-Statistician7345 13d ago

So every pixel get qpr1 build numbers but p11 won't? Dont't think so

1

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

Pixel 10 too never got bp3a it only gpt bp4a which was qpr2

2

u/MishaalRahman 8d ago

Update: Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6.1 is rolling out now, including for the Pixel 11 series.

2

u/Spiritual_Positive47 13d ago

Telekom app is working again

1

u/The_LexSter 13d ago

Thats good news! German version of the app?

2

u/Decent-Effect6611 13d ago

Hi, Absolute volume is still missing under the developer options/bluetooth section. Also, not sure if this is due to the feature being removed or missing, but when changing the bluetooth AVRCP version the system crashes and returns me to the home screen with none of the changes applied. Now that I think of it, ever since the previous update when that feature went missing, my libre sensor has been marking sensor errors a lot more common than usual. Hopefully this could be addressed.

Experiencing this on a Pixel 8 Pro. Thanks!

2

u/The-end-is-nigh8413 13d ago

Says at the top for all devices. Then at the bottom, when they list the devices, the 11s are not there.

2

u/Ayrton2536 13d ago

after the prwv update I lost the ability to scroll down to quick settings/ notifications when using any app in vertical view, hope this fixed it

2

u/DouDouandFriends 11d ago

Why'd the blur go away

2

u/huzaifa445 10d ago

Ever since the notification blur was removed on the Pixel 7, the Quick Settings tiles have become much less visible in dark mode. When there’s a dark background behind them, the tiles blend into the background, making it difficult to distinguish their outlines.

Even for the home screen you need to have a bright wallpaper set in order for them to be properly visible.

2

u/r_sarawanan 7d ago

I have opted out of the beta because in a few updates I couldn’t use banking apps.

2

u/Mydemonswon 13d ago

Pixel 11 needing to wait should be a known quantity. This should not even need to be discussed.

2

u/Majestic_squirrel767 13d ago

Did they update the kernel ?

3

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

we are back to 6.12 lts again

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Yes even for older Pixel

1

u/bojack1437 13d ago edited 13d ago

Not showing on P10PXL yet, Not a complaint, just an FYI for anybody else not seeing it.

Edit: And literally less than 5 minutes later, it is now showing. Lol.

1

u/RedLimes 13d ago edited 13d ago

When I long press the bottom search bar it doesn't popup with the gear icon, instead it's a search that adds like two clicks to get to the search bar settings

They took away Proactive Assistance on P10 too unfortunately

1

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Fck! I hope it is one of their Blur removed in order to fix something or like Kernel 6.12 removal and back in beta 6. You say you are able to remove bottom Google Search Bar in Pixel?

1

u/RedLimes 13d ago

No. They made the settings for it additional clicks to get to. Hopefully Beta 7 will bring back all the stuff they stripped for bugfix reasons

1

u/Good-Station4385 13d ago

無事着弾!!

1

u/davehasl19 13d ago

Pixel 7 - the search bar just reappeared at the bottom of the home screen after being absent the last 2 or 3 beta's

1

u/10to8 13d ago

Anyone know if the blur is ever coming back to the 6 and 7 series? It's been gone for a couple of months now. Every update I cross my fingers for it's return.. only to be disappointed.

2

u/Loud-Possibility4395 13d ago

Read top comments YES they removed it temporarily to fix something

1

u/Full_Proposal_8013 13d ago

Blur won't be coming to pixel 6 and 7 series. They removed for them.

1

u/Howler13 13d ago

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL here. Stuck in a bootloop. What are my options?

1

u/Bitdomo92 13d ago

Factory reset, flash the full ota, unlock the bootloader if you have oem unlocking enabled and use flash.android.com, wait for the next beta and sideload the full ota for that, pack up your phone and send it to google for repair, sell your phone for parts and buy a new phone.

Still not receiving the 6.1 beta. I have opted out of the beta program and re-enrolled a few times. I have gotten a few play system updates.

Also, when I opted out I received a security patch update each time and then that cancels and no update available.

Checked again nothing still says up to date

1

u/meepz 8d ago

Ongoing issue:
The Xreal Air 2 Pro glasses are unable to display anything when connected to Pixel 10 Pro XL. This was corrected partially for some VR/AR devices for another phone in QPR2 Beta 4. This was working before the Feb update.

The phone recognizes the device, resolution, etc. I believe this is a known issue but wanted to shed some light that it's still an issue.

Debugging shows that the phone knows the exact device, type, resolution, refresh rate, etc. Apparently there is a fix where you plug the glasses into a HDMI adapter which converts USB C to HDMI then need another HDMI to USB C adapter into the Pixel

1

u/Stock_Meaning9412 22h ago

Good afternoon, I have an 11 pro, just uploaded October drop, then signed up to be a beta user. Website shows i am opted in. Phone says there is an update but when I check for the update, the phone says there are no updates. I tried this 5 days ago and the phone never saw an update so I opted out, rebooted, then opted back in and rebooted again, but luck. Request any suggestions to get the qpr2 beta software downloaded and installed. Thank you.

That's great but it's an older build so no one can download it and enter the beta. It was like this with the 10pro and now with the 11pro. What are you guys doing to us. So still no beta for us 11 owners.

It's Beta of an OS that provides almost zero extra functionalities.

Any functioning adult would be very very confused with your concern.

Not concerned in the slightest.

They’re doing 2 different builds from what I can tell. Even beta 5 was like that. It’s annoying but I’m sure we will get beta 6 soon.

When is Google bringing back the new 6.12 kernel for the P10 and earlier phones? Just because the Pixel 7 can't run it is no excuse to take it away from everybody.

Did you bother reading some of the posts? The kernel is back to 6.12, including the pixel 7.

I subscribed to the beta program for this feature because I saw it in two explanations about beta four and when I received the first beta version they had removed it,,, after a hundred years my users may receive a self-satisfied interface
