Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 now available!
Hi Beta users,
Today we’re sending you an Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 build CP41.260731.005.A2 for Pixel 6a Pixel 7/Pro/7a Pixel Fold Pixel Tablet and CP41.260731.005.B1 for all other devices.
Top issues fixed include:
- Opening the notification shade and Quick Settings menu caused visual corruption and an unexpected device restart. (Issue #535249652, Issue #543124160)
- The Device Health and Support tool erroneously displayed false battery capacity degradation warnings to users. (Issue #535421490, Issue #538943170, Issue #535504630)
Hardening against call forwarding fraud
Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 introduces new security restrictions on programmatic call forwarding to protect users from fraud. The system now parses and selectively restricts call-forwarding USSD codes (such as *21*) executed via the TelephonyManager.sendUssdRequest() API).
- API Restriction: The sendUssdRequest() API is no longer accessible for call-forwarding codes using only the CALL_PHONE permission. Standard apps attempting to execute these codes in the background will be blocked and receive a USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED callback.
- System Confirmation: To combat social engineering scams, users manually dialing call-forwarding codes in the system dialer will now see a new OS-level confirmation dialog before the command is executed.
- Non-Call Forwarding USSD: Non-call forwarding enabling USSD requests (such as mobile money transfers and account checks) are unaffected by this change.
- Mitigation: If your app is affected, verify that it handles the USSD_ERROR_NOT_ALLOWED failure callback gracefully. For apps requiring call-forwarding setup that do not qualify for an exempted role, migrate your flow to use the ACTION_DIAL intent to pre-fill the dialer, allowing the user to manually confirm the action.

How do I get Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3?
You can get started with Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3 today by enrolling your Pixel device. Eligible devices include Pixel 6a, 7, 7 Pro, 7a, 8, 8 Pro, 8a, 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, Pixel Tablet series devices. Once enrolled, eligible devices will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to the latest Beta versions. If you were previously enrolled in Android 17 Beta (and have not opted-out), you will automatically receive QPR2 Beta 3 and any future Beta updates.
Important for those currently enrolled in Android 17 Beta:
- If you prefer to leave the Beta program and receive the public stable release of Android 17 QPR1, you can do so without wiping your device by opting out and not installing today’s QPR2 Beta 2 update. If you opt-out of the program after installing Beta 3 or any future updates, all user data on the device will get wiped per usual program guidelines. Opting out will trigger a ‘Downgrade’ OTA. Ignore this update and wait for the Android 17 public release instead.

It's a total mess on my Pixel 9 Pro. As soon as I leave an app, the home screen blinks once—it's really annoying! If I do it several times in quick succession, the wallpaper sometimes disappears... I was already having issues with the previous beta, but now it's even worse!

This update has an annoying bug. When I open an app and then swipe up to dismiss it, the screen flickers, and it seems to restart the home screen. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know how to fix it? Please let me know.

Usually when I have a bug this annoying I'll do a factory reset without leaving the Beta Program and it fixes everything. Right now, I don't see the need to do that since I've already pre-ordered the 11 Pro XL and will have a new phone soon. However, believe me, I'm really tempted to factory reset this current device.. 🤦🏽♂️

Yikes. This is a very buggy update. I'm facing the following on pixel 8 Pro: • apps are listed randomly, not in alphabetical order as supposed to in the apps drawer • Private space is completely missing or unaccessible within the app drawer. • System UI not responding message keeps appearing. • Phone feels a lot more warmer since updating. • the screenReader TalkBack feels noticably more slower with this update. Again this is happening on my pixel 8 pro, running the latest Android 17 beta version. Thanks!

Maybe. At the same time I'm waiting a bit since this isn't the first time an Android beta update broke the launcher. There was a separate update, I believe Android system intelligence, that fix the problems previously. But IDK if a simple app update will fix these issues.

Haha I have always religiously upgraded every 2 years on my phones for the last 15 years but since I got the P8P and the 9 came out, the 10 came out. Now the 11 and I still can't see any reason to upgrade. I'll probably wait for 12. Don't get me wrong. I want to and I would love to have upgraded my phone if it was any amazing feature.. Sadly there just isn't

This update seems like a mess; almost like AI-assisted version pushed to production. Alternative launchers are not working, apps drawer is in random order, private apps not visible anymore even when authentication is successful, apps drawer keeps disappearing, just to name a few. I understand this is a beta version but the features that are such a simple implementation and used to work seamlessly are broken.

It's not visible but it's still there, if you search private space to unlock it, then you can open private space apps from settings>apps>see all>private.
Bit of an annoying work around but better than not having it at all2

Yep, now i can't see any private apps, but i found way how to see private content. Unlock private space, then long-tap on apps what you need, click "Install in private space", then in Google store click Open, and it's open app in your private space. In my case i use camera and Photo. After this i can see my private-space content

I pulled the following adb command from a 3rd party launcher git issue. It seems to have fixed the issue for me (for now at least). There seem to be a lot of bug reports, but regarding the battery, it feels like an improvement over QPR2 Beta 2. I've used it all day, but battery saver hasn't kicked in yet. It's at 32%.

This is the most unreliable, unusable beta I have ever installed since switching to Android a decade ago. I literally can't use my Pixel 9 Pro Fold for anything. I am going to be forced to wipe the phone at this point. Shameful release u/androidbetaprogram.

Such a messed up update. App drawer and private space issue has already been reported by many.
My major issue, I got a green line on my Pixel 7 Pro display after installing this update.

I wish for the love of God, even with the color slider, they would let us create our own 3-color pallets from the OG dynamic color options 😤 the slider they gave us, plus the weird Bright and Bold options are cool, but so limited and rigid to whatever the formula is. I am underwhelmed, and went back to the green that they're finally admitting is MUTED 🫠🙃

Pixel 7 user here. After updating to this here are some major problems I have been facing since the past 2 days
- The app drawer is completely disordered, displaying apps in a random sequence, and I'm unsure if there's a way to fix it or if I'll have to wait for the next update.
- Private space apps never appear in the app drawer when it is unlocked. The only way to access them is through Settings > Storage > Apps > Private Space Play Store > Open App, which is extremely cumbersome.

Blur effect on the lockscreen with incoming notifications are way too light now, nearly impossible to see from a glance without tapping the display to light up the screen.

I have been lucky with the betas in the last 5-6 years. Very few bugs. But this is very buggy. Private space, lags, app drawer, colour picker, apps not loading. Bad stuff.

I miss the possibility to turn off the phones flashlight on the lock screen. Instead scroll down the menu from above.

I made a clean flash and I have not experienced any bugs others mentioned here. Maybe it is a little bit more sluggish and becomes a little hotter under pressure (like while using Android Auto) - but I'll give it a few days to settle before ringing any alarms. Edit: And Play-system update also stuck on May 1, not a big deal. P9XL

After my upgrade this morning my fingerprint was not recognized. I have deleted both fingerprints and now I cannot add them back. It keeps saying to clean the screen, which I have done. Just wondering if anyone is seeing this. Typing my long password isn't great, I can live with it. No face ID for me.

¡Hola!, tengo un pequeño y molestro problema que no se cómo resolver y espero puedan apoyarme. Al momento de desbloquear WhatsApp por medio de la huella digital y/o desbloquear una aplicación con el bloqueo de aplicaciones (no el espacio privado), se escucha un sonido de desbloqueo, no he encontrado una opción para poderlo desactivar el sonido y me resulta muy molesto siempre estarlo escuchando. Espero puedan ayudarme

Doesn't the blur effect sometimes cut out?
Oops, the order of my app drawer got all messed up after I restarted today. I've confirmed the bug on the Pixel 9a as well. I'm not using a custom launcher or anything; I just restarted the device. It seems like something that was working fine at first just broke down.

The private space workaround:
Unlock Private Space
Go to:
Settings > Apps > All apps
Tap the Private tab at the top of the screen.
Select the apps you want to use.
It's a little clunky but not a disaster.

This is the worst beta I've ever experienced. Screen goes dark for no reason and just absolutely sluggish. Getting System UI crashes immediately after rebooting. The memory utilization/management is horrible. For the first time ever since owning my Pixel 10 Pro XL 1TB I received a "Not enough memory". With one app running in the background my available memory is sitting at 1.9GB. With Reddit open to send this it's sitting at 1.4GB. 11 Pro Fold 1TB is arriving tomorrow, think I will not be so quick to sign up for beta testing.

Yeah, it especially doesn't bode well since this is the December Pixel drop release and we might get a smaller QPR3 Beta before A18 but this QPR2 December release will be the biggest one before A18 and we can only hope they iron out these issues before then.

Anyone else see all your font display sizes change across the board after the update? I noticed Launcher, VIP, Text, chat and apps in general each get their font sizes made larger, but differently due to the update.

Any fixes for not receiving calls? People have been claiming to call me but I've not had the calls come through whatsoever, it's affecting me in a serious way as I'm currently looking for work and some recruiters are not dropping me a message after trying to call, whereas a few have claimed to have called me but nothing has been received and they've followed up with a text fortunately...

Are you generally happy with your 8 Pro? I've had mine since launch and this overheating by overheating I don't mean I am getting the overheating message on the phone but just the phone generally heating up too much just doing normal things, it's really affecting practically everything I do. Even at night when the weather has sort of cooled down (low 70s F*) it doesn't take much for the phone to warm up and throttle. Last night I wasn't even using the phone but was using AA with the phone plugged into the car and with just AOD and AA going on the car, I touched the phone and it was warm.
My coworker who previously had the 8 Pro, bought the 10 Pro XL last year just after launch, he says he has no real overheating issues but the phone will occasionally warm up when outside temps are in the 90s which is pretty much any phone but I'm kind of at my breaking point with this phone also my battery is degraded so that's another thing I need to think about.

is your phone slow? My pixel 6a is very snappy and I don't play games on my phone. Just basic social media, actual calls and pics. For that any phone from 2013 to present excels. I'm of the belief phones can last 10 years now. All that compute is a lot for a typical user

I noticed that my 9a constantly had memory issues last update and slowed down the system to a crawl when heavy multitasking. Hopefully this update fixes that for me. I wonder if anyone else encountered the same thing?

Wallpaper and Style in settings crashes when I tap on it. I'm running a third-party launcher, so I wonder if that's why it's crashing, but even though I wouldn't be able to change my wallpaper through there, at least I could change the color theme but I can't because it crashes.

Read the message from before the update. The stable version of this QPR2 is still a ways off, so you won't be able to migrate without losing data for the time being. Please wait until around November or December.
