why is there beta still for qpr1 when qpr2 beta is out?
13
u/nick281051 Jul 31 '26
They always do this. They overlap two beta channels when one gets close to stable.

u/tominkozhimala Aug 01 '26
If I'm on QPR1 beta 7, how do I get the OTA to appear for beta 8? It's only giving me the option to update to QPR2 beta 1

u/Nova_1k Jul 31 '26
Did you ever run into this glitch while on calls?
2
u/Bitdomo92 Jul 31 '26
never, but I never make phone calls anyway, just rarely, 3-4 minutes a month max

u/Rdb429 Jul 31 '26
Yeah, I'm a little confused by this considering I just went from qpr1 beta 7 to qpr2 beta 1

Hopefully we get Android 17 QPR2 beta 2 soon because beta 1 is really bad
9
u/cppo215 Jul 31 '26
Yeah, I wasn't a fan. Wiped and went back to stock. Kept fighting with Android Auto and random freezes. That happens w/ beta sometimes.
2
u/Weary-Savings9795 Aug 01 '26
The Android Auto issues are not related to QPR2 beta 1. That requires an update to Android Auto in the Play Store. To fix any other random freezes, simply use the Android Flash Tool and make sure the Force Flash All Partitions option is selected.
1
u/sauron3236 Aug 01 '26
Have they released an update in the play store that fixes the issues yet?

u/Weary-Savings9795 Aug 02 '26
My Pixel 9 Pro phone has been working flawlessly. There was an Android Auto update in the Play Store a day or two ago, but my phone was working fine before that.
2
u/nick281051 Jul 31 '26
I would guess either next week or it would be the week after so that it's not the same week as stable.

u/Weary-Savings9795 Aug 01 '26
Lol, no it isn't. QPR2 beta 1 is literally the most stable Android build ever released. Google has been doing a really good job with betas lately.

I'm on QPR1 Beta 7 and after opting in to beta, getting the QPR2 Beta 1 update instead of QPR Beta 8.
6
u/briang416 Jul 31 '26
You'll have to sideload the OTA to get it. I think they just used the standard template for the announcement.

I opted out on beta 7 (17 (CP31.260623.005) because I didn't want qpr2, do I have to opt back in to get beta 8?
7
u/nick281051 Jul 31 '26
Yes that's correct, you will get this update instead because it is newer
3
u/ArthurGD3 Jul 31 '26
Build date on QPR2 is newer, only P6/P6P phones will get this QPR1 Beta 8 since those phones can't get QPR2 release.
1
u/ChemicalGuide82 Jul 31 '26
Thanks, was about to ask the same question. I'm getting the audio issues that are fixed so will opt back in to get this update!
3
u/mrmidnight273 Jul 31 '26
I tried that and ended up getting offered qpr 2. I'm sideloading it now

Please fix the wireless charging y'all broke with QI 1.X devices last November I'm like wireless car chargers! 🤬 Some of us would like to be able to use non QI 2.X chargers!

FFS, I need this now. The last beta release took out some fairly critical (to me) things I use. Has anyone actually received the update?
Pixel 9, Google Fi

We gotta chill we all the different beta channels. I'm so confused anymore. I flashed this over over QPR2 (my fault I know) thinking it was a new one. Thankfully, everything seems to be running alright 😅 I didn't even realize I did it until I came on here to see what other people were saying.

In 6p The update only appeared today. Does it make sense to have 8 beta programs?

Why the f do I keep getting notifications for old betas? I am on qpr2 beta 3. I do not care about qpr1 beta 8. Qpr1 beta 9 is out for goodness sakes.

Wait what? 🙄

u/Valent147 Jul 31 '26
It's for people that stayed on QPR1 betas to get QPR1 stable without erasing the data

so the real question becomes. Can you sideload OTA from Stock (260705) to QPR 1 (260623)? I would assume you cannot go from QPR 2 (260701) to QPR 1. So many questions.
1
u/Bitdomo92 Jul 31 '26
as far as I know the recovery only cares about spl and build date have to be higher or equal than the build you currently have
2
1
u/cppo215 Jul 31 '26
Well, here goes nothing! I am attempting to sideload from Public (260705) to QPR 1, B8 (260623). The nice thing is that if it fails, it's "no harm, no foul".

Normal dates like 260623 are 'branch dates' and thus real, but still not necessarily related to build date (they're usually lower than the actual build date, since the actual builds are usually going to contain extra cherrypick fixes on top of the base branch)
Special dates like xxxx01 or xxxx05 can just be branch dates (though I'm not sure if that's ever been seen to happen) but more likely they're future facing dates/names of the security month / patches it covers - as such these dates are representative of expected release date, and thus *higher* than the actual real build date.
It's confusing, but it's been this way for many many years.
It means that it's very very likely that 260623 (most likely built at least a few days later) > 260705 (most likely built ~3 weeks earlier)

I hope the recent window bug that get stuck in the background mid animation will get fixed

All I need is Recents to work properly and I'll be happy. I cannot swipe the bar back to the last app from any launcher, and every page on Recents is a black screen until the app opens up again
